We still have $16.09 available in our Area H&I budget. Terry H. spent $37.48 for Hormel Party Tray and Veggie Party Dish, of her own monies for the Learning Days event. We have had really good turnouts at our meetings lately, from 15 to 20 people in attendance, and we have plans for other facilities in the near future. If we could get some help for the GSR's with announcing the H&I bsuiness meeting at meetings that would be greatly appreciated and if we could get an H&I representative from each group that would help in improving H&I's work. Also, Lou Ann P. is the Panel Leader for Highland Mountain and Barb B. is assisting her, and they are making progress with clearances being finished and next is an orientation. So, we hope to start meeting there real soon. Thanks to Lou Ann and Barb for a great job! One other thing, H&I will be having a mid-month informal meeting somewhere to be determined for those not able to make the regularly scheduled meeting and this meeting will be used to stay on task, orientations for new members, and for planning. I think that's about it. I just want to thank everyone for doing their part with H&I, you all are awesome! Thanks for letting me be of service! Report has been ed to Charlotte. In Loving Service, Jeff L Entertainment Terri: Thank you to all who helped put the birthday event together, it was a wonderful event. I sent a letter of thanks to the newsletter thanking individuals for their efforts. Our clean time countdown was over 500 years, which is great. It was wonderful to see so many of our members with substantial clean time attending. Financially, we were successful. Our total expenses were $946.55, and our proceeds were $1, A detailed report and receipts are attached. At this time, we would like to give area a check for $1, I left $ if the bank to use as deposits for a Memorial Day picnic site and Solstice campsite if that s necessary. As housekeeping items, does the committee want the current entertainment committee to reserve these sites, or let the next committee elected do this? If the next one is to do it, I will close the account and return the remaining funds next area meeting. Also, we have quite a bit of soda and water left over from the birthday event. To put it in storage, it will freeze and we have no other events coming up, so the entertainment committee would like to donate it to the regional entertainment committee. They are going to be very busy and this extra soda and water will save them some expense. I am, also, returning the key and code card to the treasurer. Thank you so much for allowing me to have it. It saved us a lot of time having access to the storage unit. It has been a great honor and privilege to serve as entertainment chair this past year. I have been truly blessed to see how well the fellowship can come together to support each other and the events. I will carry this experience with me forever and hope to again be of service in the future. Thank you so very much everyone. In loving service, Terry S. Entertainment chair Newsletter Linda: I m sorry I am unable to attend this month s Area Meeting for personal reasons. I have requested Howie represent the newsletter committee at this month s Area Meeting. The following is my report for January. The newsletter held a committee meeting on January 23 rd at the Alano Club 3pm, announcement of the meeting was announced at various NA Meetings and a general was sent to the newsletter committee members and a few of the subcommittee members. Although there are several submissions to the newsletter this month, there were no addicts in attendance at the committee meeting. I do plan on having another committee meeting scheduled in March, date and place are to be determined. Due to technical computer problems I was unable to finish the newsletter in time for printing. Subsequently the newsletter will not be available at this month s area meeting. I hope to have the newsletter completed and ready for distribution by February 10 th. I plan to have 50 copies printed and distribution this month. I request that the GSR members wanting the newsletter this month to please call me at for delivery. Also, the newsletter will be sent to our webmaster for posting to the website for review. This month s newsletter will include the following: Upcoming NA events, various articles and submissions from addicts carrying a message of recovery. The Subcommittee summaries already submitted and the submissions made from meeting groups requesting meeting support. A special thanks goes out to all of the addicts and sub committees who did submit and participate in this month s newsletter. Thank you for allowing me to be of service. In Loving Service, Linda, NA Newsletter Chair
4 Literature Chris: Literature sales were steady in January. I m continually impressed by the dedication of those who serve to carry the message. Interacting with service workers and members of the fellowship from throughout the Area is surely my favorite and most blessed aspect of this position. January Sales: The Lifesavers: $15.55, Saturday Night Live:$ 27.50,Valley NA Nooners: $105.55,Nothing in the Window: $21.75,Gong Show: $19.25, Roundabout: $145.80,Individual Sales: $18.30,Total:$ Hospitals and Institutions Literature: In my January report I said that $ in literature was provided to Hospitals & Institutions as their literature allotment for December. Immediately after submitting my report, I provided H&I with the balance of their December allotment, i.e., an additional $37.04 for a total of for the month of December. On January 24, 2010 I provided H&I its literature allotment for the month of January in the amount of $ H&I literature is paid directly by the AASCNA I do not collect cash for literature provided to H&I. Orders: Literature orders received from NA World Services totaled $1, in January. I have a full inventory of Books including NA Basic Text, It Works How & Why, Just for Today, NA Step Working Guide, and, the Sponsorship Book; booklets including the NA White Booklet and Introductory Guide to NA; and, a full complement of Public Information Pamphlets and clean time Key Tags. Deposits: On January 23, 2010, I deposited $ into AASCNA s account. This amount was comprised of proceeds from sales. Today I am delivering $90.00 in cash to the Treasurer, for total cash deposits of since my January 4, 2010 report. I retain $18.00 on hand for the purpose of making change for future sales. This report is submitted in loving service. Chris M. RCM Doug: I attended the Regional service committee meeting on January 18th. Summarizing the results: 1. Motion to fund (send) one delegate to Western States Zonal Forum Jan 29, 30, and 31 passed unanimously. [Tony L has since gone and returned] and 2011 budget was approved to send back to the Areas. It is attached. The budget had been revised downward considerably based on comments at our last meeting. At the ARSC meeting, Juneau requested that we increase the 2010 conference budget from $1500 to $2000 as that was more realistic cost, and that the WSZF budget for 2011 be increased from $0 o $500 so that while we were requesting the WSZF member regions buy our air fare, we were at least helping to pay our way. 3. The motion to send 10% of the 2009 convention profit to world died on the floor for lack of a second. Juneau asked if the 10% was in lieu of the $1000 identified in the draft budget or in addition to it. 4. Cory C was nominated Chair of the ARSC. Qualifications: Clean date is November 28, My home group is the morning after group, of N.A. which meets Sundays at 9:30am at the sunrise grill. My group and Area service has been coffee maker for the Fast group and GSR of Fast group. As an H&I member, I carried the message into Highland Mountain for two years. I ve served on the phone line for 5 years, and been on various entertainment committees. My service at region: I m currently the vice chair, and I served on the outreach committee. I have served as the Arts and Graphic chair, and entertainment chair for past conventions. I have a sponsor, I am a sponsor, and I work the steps, traditions, and concepts to the best of my ability. 5. Golden Heart Area nominated Anne H for Regional Public Information Chair. Her qualifications are: Clean Time: 20 years (on 1/13/2010) Anne comes from the Chesapeake & Potomac Region (Washington DC). She has been involved in her former Region since she had 2 years clean (16 years). In that she has served in the following capacities: Regional Public Information Chair -5 years (not consecutive) Regional Webmaster - 12 years (consecutive) Regional PI Committee Member 12 years, RDA 2 years, RD 2nd Alt 2 years, Regional Policy Chair 2 years, Regional Policy Vice-Chair 2 years, Regional Treasurer 2 years. Anne has also held a variety of Area and Group positions concurrent to her Regional positions, including Area Public Information Chair for 4 years (not consecutive) and Area PI Vice Chair. She is currently the RCM for Golden Heart Area and a member of the Golden Heart Area Public Relations Committee. 6. Juneau made a motion seconded by Kenai that Alaska not send its alternate RD this year. Here is the substance of the discussion: Robert G s pro position: The normal course is that the ARD goes to one WSC and learns the ropes of being the RD. Our situation is different in that the RD is serving two terms. My second attendance in a learning capacity will have very diminished returns. I understand and am knowledgeable of the business rules and routines of WSC, which do not change much from conference to conference. Much of our business is concluded on a conference cycle and does not carry forward to the following Conference. Any items that do carry forward can be found on NAWS website. FINALLY, the region would save $2000 in travel costs. Discussion opposed: The ARD provides continuity The ARD helps with the busy schedule. Anne H. thinks Alt. RD should attend World Conference. Tony wrote an to Ron Miller who is on the World Board and assigned to Alaska Region among other regions. It bears on the discussion and is included below: In a message dated 1/21/2010 8:34:39 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, tony@tonysenterprises.com writes: Ron, Our ARD (Robert G.) does not see the need to attend the conference. The issue seems to be money. We have joined Western Zonal forum and he feels that there is not enough funding for
5 both of us to attend. I disagree and I was wondering if you might want to discuss the merits of the ARD attending the conference. You may be able to articulate some information that I have failed at. I cc ed this to him also so he will be expecting to hear from you if you think it is as important as I do. I thought this might fall under your Guidance. Thanks Tony Alaska RD From: rmille2134@aol.com [mailto:rmille2134@aol.com] _Sent: Saturday, January 23, :42 PM_To: tony@tonysenterprises.com_cc: levergun@gci.net_subject: Re: Conference When I was regional delegate alternate, the experience of attendance was the largest benefit to my region followed by our contribution to NA as a whole. This was followed by an enhancement and continuity of service quality for my region, first hand issue awareness and networking. Being a part of the greater conscious of the WSC, it's workshops and meetings helped the conference and NA as a whole. I found out these issues were greater than me and my region. Even now I can reach back and share my delegate experience with you rather than talk at you from the reference point of a board member. My delegate's conference experience was certainly an asset in cultivation any skill sets I needed to serve my region. My question became what do I have to offer once my delegate had rotated? I am of the opinion the combined impact from the both of you towards a discussion based conference is immeasurable. I suggest you also seek feedback from current delegates in your respective zone. I look forward to our continuous effort to better carry the message of recovery to addicts. Ron Miller 7.Kenai made a motion, seconded by Anchorage, to host the 2011 convention. Summarizing the Action Items: Vote on the Candidate for ARSC Chair, Cory. Vote on the Candidate of ARSC PI, Anne H. Vote to adopt the regional budget or not. Failure to do so would force the region to approve expenditures in excess of $500 piecemeal over the course of the year. Vote on the motion to not send the alternate RD to the conference essentially to save the $2000. Vote on the motion that Kenai host the 2011 convention. Convention Chair Lori, Charlotte: The convention committee is meeting every 2 weeks, we are moving along with the Convention planning. We have narrowed our choices of Hotels, it is looking like Alyeska Hotel on October 1-3 and the logo will be decided on the 5 th at the Fur Rondy event. Our next fundraiser is a Comedy show at St. Patrick s on March 6 th at 6:30 pm, $20.00 at the door for dinner and the comedy show. ACTION ITEMS 1. Area Sub Committee Nominations a. RCM Doug (willing to serve another term) b. Entertainment c. PI d. H&I Jeff (willing to serve another term) e. Literature Chris (willing to serve another term) f. Newsletter 2. Motions: a. Region: Vote on the Candidate for ARSC Chair, Cory. b. Region: Vote on the Candidate of ARSC PI, Anne H. c. Region: Vote to adopt the regional budget or not. Failure to do so would force the region to approve expenditures in excess of $500 piecemeal over the course of the year. d. Region: Vote on the motion to not send the alternate RD to the conference essentially to save the $2000. e. Region: Vote on the motion that Kenai host the 2011 convention. f. Frozen Chozen makes a motion that Region allocate $ for its 2010 budget. Intent: to prudently budget the basics so not to overextend. Region still has the opportunity to pool money as needed beyond the $ as issues arise. Motion to Adjourn made by: Howie
