1 Anchorage Area Service Committee Meeting Minutes of October 2009 Opened the meeting at 6:30 pm with a moment of silence and the Serenity Prayer by Sean C. New Groups: None Amendments to Agenda: None ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE REPORTS (Written reports on file) Chair: Thanks so very much to the Anchorage fellowship for trusting in me as a trusted servant here at the Area. It has been a great experience with many positive growing experiences for my recovery and all aspects of my life. Service never ceases to test my principles that I have received here in recover. I am looking forward to a new experience in recovery and thank you all. In loving service Sean. Vice-chair: Thank you for allowing me to be your Area vice Chair during the last year and that hopefully the incoming Executive Committee will be supportive of the upcoming Learning Days hosted by H&I. Secretary: September Meeting Minutes motioned to accept To the Point, 2 nd Frozen. Thank you for allowing me to serve. Treasurer: Our September 30th checking account balance is $ , our 1% donation to World and Region is $23.67 to each. We collected $ in 7th tradition group donations at last month's Area meeting. Our ACS account is paid through 11/23/09. No orders were placed in August for literature with NA World Service Literature Orders. Best Storage is paid through March 12, Rob T. generously gave of his time and moved all our items in the old storage unit, the speakers at Bill. S s house and all the DJ equipment from Jeff s house to the new storage unit. Special thanks to Rob. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, in loving service, Eileen R. GROUP REPORTS (Written Reports on File) Clean & Serene, GSR Joe C.: Clean and Serene continues to meet at Holy Family Cathedral downtown with from 50 to 60 addicts attending regularly. We are ready to vote. We donate $ Soul-2-Soul, GSR Mare D.: Soul to Soul meets every Monday and Wednesday at the Leake Temple Annex located at 408 North Hoyt Street in Mountain View. Our attendance is stable with anywhere from 10 to 16 regular attendees and visitors. We welcome all levels of clean time, and as we have new members visiting, this is a really good meeting to carry the message to. Hope to see you there. In humble service Mare D. The Frozen Chozen, GSR Nick H.: Frozen Chosen is thriving well 60+ in attendance each night 5-50 newcomers. Frozen is ready to vote on nominations tonight. Frozen has to donate to Area. The icicle award this month goes to Dena for her service work with the convention. Frozen chosen will be supplying sodas for the Halloween Event this year, also Dinner and a meeting in November will take place at the indoor campout event. In Loving Service Catelyn. To the Point, GSR Geoff V.: To The Point meets every Sunday 7pm to 8pm.The resident fellowship continues to number around 10and we continue to encourage members to attend the meeting to show that it works. Our rent is paid and we have literature on hand. We are prepared to vote on any nominations and the motions before us tonight and we are blessed to be able to donate $10 to the Anchorage Area this month. Taking the Fifth -- Spike Saturday Night Live, GSR Jeffery W.: Absent Gong Show, GSR Jack S.: I would like to introduce myself to those of you who may not know me. My name is Jack and I am an addict. As Rob is stepping down as the GSR I was elected to the position at our September business meeting. Though I am still early in my recovery, I held this position for this same group in the past. I understand and can gratefully fulfill this position. The Gong Show meets regularly Monday Thursday from 6-7pm. Monday is a step study meeting and Wednesday is a Popsicle topic

2 meeting. Our attendance averages between 15 and 30 people. Being a predominantly newcomer meeting with treatment centers coming in. Our 7 th tradition doesn t usually reflect our meeting size. We currently have $29.50 in reserve. Our rent is current. We will not be donating anything to Area this month. In grateful and humble service Jack S. Out and About, GSR Elena.: Meets every the Alano Club from 7:30 9:00pm. For the month of September 2009 we had 230 in attendance of which included 21 newcomers and 2 visitors, averaging 46 addicts at each meeting. For September we celebrated 22 years, a few days between 20 addicts. We had a total income of $198.29, for August 7 th tradition and $59.30 literature income. Our rent was $ Our supplies and cake was $ for coffee supplies, we have for ASC donation at this time, leaving us with a balance of $ The Out & About will not meet on October 9 th, We would like everyone to announce this at your meetings; that you would please announce to the people from the treatment centers to let their facilitators know. In loving Service Elena. The NA Way, GSR Jeff B.: Absent The Morning After, GSR Debbie S.: Morning after group GSR report 10/5/09The morning after group meets 9:30-10:30 am. On Sunday mornings at the Sunrise Grill restaurant at 8201 Old Seward HWY near Diamond Blvd. Our attendance is at 15+ addicts, you may purchase food and coffee if you like but it is not a requirement. We have plenty of room if you want to start your Sunday morning right. We have a $ donation to give to area. We have no new business and area. Dynamite Thursday Night, GSR Alan M.: Dynamite continues to meet at St Mary s from 6:30 to 7:30 on Thursday nights. Attendance is steady 7-13 weekly; we have no money for Area this month, ready to vote in loving service Dave B. Round About GSR Marie P.: 40+ attendance daily picking up as change of weather. 7 days a week at the Alano Club upstairs from noon 1pm. Group conscience change business meeting to Friday before Area on Schedule. Collects $ from 7 th and literature sales. Due to group conscience error of not checking w/popsicle stick meeting- Chinese auction event cancelled donated convention package to newcomer Chandra. On 9/22 group conscience; this treasurer step up to fulfill role of GSR; Franco stepped down we thanked him for his service in his passing did place new hardware & lock on supplies to protect our group supplies. Eagle River Group, GSR Frank Z.: Eagle River Group meets on Friday's at 6:30 pm in the Joy Lutheran Church building off the rear parking lot. We've been averaging 8 to 10 addicts each week and we almost always have 1 or 2 newcomers. We thank the other Anchorage area groups for their support. We have $5.00 this month for area. In loving service, Frank Z Recovery First GSR, Corbett Q.: Recovery first meets every Sunday from 5:45 to 6:45 at the Girdwood community center. Our bills are paid, we have literature and coffee supplies; Are ready to vote on all action items, and nominations. Attendance has been very light, we could use some support. Please carry this message back to the other groups. We have a $35.00 donation for area. In loving service Corbett Q and Recovery first group. Walk Your Talk, GSR Carol K.: Average per meeting. $50.00 to Area and $50.00 to World. We have a new meeting place at 15 th and N at the Anchorage Lutheran Church. Ready to vote. Nothing in the Windows, GSR Nicole P.: Absent WTSOD Wiley: The work the steps or die meeting meets every 7:30-9:00 at the Alano Club. We are not able to donate to area this month for as we are building a prudent reserve. Rent is paid up to date and we have books to supply to addicts who attend this meeting. Attendance is 8-12 addicts at

3 this time. We are hoping this will build over time as the meeting is announced at other meetings. We would appreciate it if the GSRs could announce this meeting at their home groups. We are prepared to vote this evening. ILS Wiley. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS (Written Reports on File) Public Information: Joe presenting as Susan is out of town. We did a mail out to over 150 recovery contacts in Anchorage and through Alaska. We will be placing NA Literature at convention. Hospitals & Institutions: H & I meets the last Thursday of every month at the Westmark Cafe located at 720 West 5th Avenue, starting at 7:00pm. Our next business meeting will be on October 29th. There were 13 attendees at the business meeting on September 24th. We now have 7 H&I facilities, Highland Mountain was added, LouAnn P. is Panel Leader, and more will be revealed about this meeting as far as dates and times. Anchorage Jail East (Men only) meets every Wednesday from 7-830p. Panel Leader is Tony L.; averages 4-14 inmates Anchorage Jail West (men only) meets every Monday from 7:30 8:30p, Doug P. is Panel leader. Clithroe Center (women only) meets every Monday from 6-7p, Linda G. is the panel leader. Cordova Center (men and women) meets every Saturday from 7-8p Doug P. is the panel leader and averages 12 residents. Genesis House meets every Tuesday from 7-8 (men and women) Amy B. is our new panel leader for this facility, with an average of 20 residents attending. Parkview Center meets every Saturday from 4:30 5:30 (men only); Jeff L. is panel leader averaging 7 residents. There will be a Learning Days on November 14 th, Saturday from 1:30 4:30pm at the Lutheran Church located at 1420 Cordova Street, 15 th & Cordova. There will be a presentation from H&I, PI, Entertainment and possibly from literature, and Newsletter. Food will be provided by the entertainment committee. I just want to say how proud I am of this committee, everyone is doing an awesome job and I believe we are really touching the lives of many addicts by carrying the message of recovery into these facilities. Great job everyone!!! ILS Jeff L. Entertainment: Hello everyone, Area Entertainment has been very busy planning our many upcoming events. We have everything in place for the Halloween dance, including the trophy and a full signup sheet. Thank you to all who are donating food, soda, etc. We are participating in the Learning Day event hosted by H&I on November 14 th at the Lutheran Church and will be providing hot dogs and chili, a great presenter and info on Area Entertainment about what it takes to plan and put on a great event. We are also working on our Thanksgiving indoor campout itinerary, which includes some great speakers, fun activities like a skit on how to and not to run a meeting, recovery bingo and story time. Not to mention, a great Thanksgiving feast and for all who attend. We will have a flyer out soon on this event, as well as signup sheets. For Christmas narathon, we have reserved Freedom Frog from Thursday evening, Christmas Eve until Noon on the 26 th. More will be revealed on this soon and will be asking for assistance with chairing meetings, activities, etc We may also use this site for New Year s Eve; we re still working on that part of it. The Birthday Event: We have been hard at work on ideas for this. We re pretty sure we have a location; we re just awaiting confirmation on this. It s shaping up to be a wonderful event, and we re looking forward to everyone sharing some history, some creativity and a lot of recovery to celebrate 31 years of NA in Anchorage. A note on the storage at the Alano Club. It s my understanding that some items were retrieved from that storage for the convention. While the entertainment committee has no problem returning or sharing any items the fellowship needs, for inventory purposes, we would appreciate being contacted beforehand so we know what s being removed. Also, we would like to move the items in the Alano storage to the recently acquired area storage in December, so everything is together and the correct contacts can be made. Thank you. RSC REPRESENTATIVES' REPORTS Regional Committee Member: Regional Meeting to be held at Convention on October 10 at 2:00 pm Regional Committee Member Alternate: No Report Regional Convention Chair: My name is Arlene and I m an addict. Our Convention Committee met September 28 th, 2009 at Peggy s 6:30 pm. Registration has forms online at the webpage and can still pay online. You have less than a day left to get your meals. They still need more registrations. Programming has fares paid for speakers. They have a final program. You may make a

4 copy from the webpage. Arts & Graphics is done with all their banners. Convention Information has literature racks and reports that there are at least 4 treatment centers will be attending the Convention. Merchandising order is in place. Entertainment is getting last of the auction items. Our final Committee meeting is Wednesday, October 7 th, 2009, 5:30. Final hotel walk through is 4:00 pm before our meeting. This will be my final report as Convention Chair and I want to thank you for allowing me to be of service. We hope everyone will be there to enjoy our 25 th celebration year of recovery in Alaska.
