1 Zone Newsletter December 2016 Zone Chair: Jim Lamb Bulletin Editor Sought! Volume: 16/17 Issue: 6 Temporary Bulletin Editor: Jim Lamb ZONE C-4 = 218 GREAT LIONS MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD! In the first five months of our fiscal year, Lions of Zone C4 have served their communities in many ways hours of service have been reported by our club secretaries so far this year. That s nearly 24 hours for each of the 218 Lions in our zone.

2 Around the Zone Project Connect (Continued). 1. Begin collecting soaps, shampoos and all manner of hygiene products at club meetings. All of these items will be gathered and packaged by the North Kitsap Leos clubs for distribution. 2. It would be helpful if a couple of the clubs could donate some funds to ensure that we have enough hygiene items for distribution. Here s a great picture of the North Mason Lions marching the Belfair Holiday Parade on Sunday, December 4 th. King Lion Steve Covert and the North Mason Lions were joined by District Governor Jan Weatherly, Zone Chair Jim Lamb and Poulsbo Lions Jay and Sandi Dahlquist. 3. On January 25 th, several Lions will be needed to assist with vision screening. If we get to use the Health Screening Unit, we ll need even more Lions to help with hearing and (hopefully) diabetes screening. Peace Poster Contest There was a great turnout for the parade and a lot of the crowd clapped and waved as they recognized the Lions. Project Connect For many years, Lions of Zone C-4 have actively supported Project Connect, a program designed to help the homeless in our community find needed services. Our Lions have collected and assembled hygiene kits and have assisted with the vision screening and the receipt of new eye glasses for those with vision problems. This year s event is scheduled for January 25 th and will be held at the Salvation Army building in Bremerton. Bremerton (Central) has applied to host the Health Screening Unit of our Northwest Foundation for Sight and Hearing. Here s how you can help: Past Zone Chair Karl Ostheller presents District C s winning peace poster for this year. It was prepared by Gerta Mason-Todd who is a student at Poulsbo Middle School. More than 40 district members voted from among this year s entries at the District Cabinet meeting on November 21 st. Kate Ebert, LEO advisor and art teacher at Poulsbo Middle School required all of her students to participate in the contest, according to the Poulsbo Noon Lions newsletter.

3 Zone Cabinet I ve asked the following Lions to help me as the Zone Chair this year. They are experts in many areas of Lionism and they will be glad to help you in the administration of your club. Please don t hesitate to contact them to help in any way. Leadership: PZC Mike Peterson Membership: PZC Pat Burch Sight: Roland Arper NW Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing: PDG Dave Risley Sr. Advisor: IP Zone Chair: Zone Secretary: Bulletin Editor: PDG Ida Malone PZC Ginger Shields Heather Davis position available Thanks, in advance, to these fine Lions. Call on them if they can be of assistance to your club. District 19C Lion s Journey for Service, Growth and Leadership The Lions Journey is a new program to assist new Lions and not-so-new Lions in their journey to become more knowledgeable and involved in Lions. For a new Lion, it is a systemic approach of attaining a full understanding of how they fit in with their Lions Club. For the not so-new Lion, it is a way of staying connected with their Lions Club. It is also a way to RECOGNIZE those Lions for participating in this three phase program - Service, Growth and Leadership. Section I. SERVICE In this section, the new or not-so-new Lion will become involved in many aspects of their club they may not have been involved with in the past. Participate in an Induction Ceremony Attend an Orientation Meeting Participate in a Service Project Participate in a Fundraiser Participate in a Club Social Event Attend a Club Board Meeting Visit Two Other Clubs/Events Attend a Zone or District Meeting Section II. GROWTH In this section, the Lion will continue to grow and become involved in new things in his/her club. Chair or Co-Chair a Committee Attend the Annual Club Planning Session Accomplish two of the following: Attend a District Spring Convention or MD19 Annual Convention Attend a Leadership 101 course Sponsor at least one new member The International President s Theme For ! Section III. LEADERSHIP In this section, the Lion will become involved in advanced leadership opportunities in Lions.

4 Hold a Senior Club leadership position Attend the Northwest Lions Leadership Institute Become a Mentor/Guiding Lion Each Lions Club should create a Mentorship Chair (in addition to its Membership/Leadership Chair) to administer this program within their club. Each club should also appoint mentors or Guiding Lions. The accomplishment of each of these three phases relies on mentors or Guiding Lions who are carefully selected by the club and need not be the Lion s Sponsor. Each Lion will have two mentors so that the absence of one or the other will not impede the Lions journey. In addition, not all Lions will be interested in completing all three phases; however, each Lion should be made aware of, encouraged and given the opportunity to complete all three. A recognition certificate that will be made available to ensure the success of The Lions Journey. Of course, each club is free to create their own criteria or forms, so long are they keep within the spirit of Service, Growth and Leadership District 19C Mentoring/Retention Co- Chairs PZC Bob Johnson bobjohnson39@live.com Phone: New Member Orientation Online! 8 From our Centennial Chair PZC Bob Johnson Lately our Centennial Celebration has taken a sharp turn to the South. After meeting with Marymount and realizing how expensive this Celebration was becoming; the Dupont Lions were visited. After the meeting, King Lion Jake and Roy from Dupont and Sam and Bob from Fife visited Clock Tower park in Dupont. With two meeting in the next two days, learning a whole lot about this process, the district leadership decided to move our Celebration to Dupont. Already the Dupont Lions, the City of Dupont and the community are strongly behind us and will be highly involved in developing our event. In fact, we will be adding a Dupont Lion to our Centennial Celebration committee. All of us involved in these two meeting are very excited about the possibilities where this event is going. Take NOTE NEW DATE AUGUST 12, Keep yourself involved on developments by looking at our Birthday Bash Facebook sight. On Nov 5, the Auburn Noon Lions celebrated Veterans Day with the largest parade west of the Mississippi, with 203 entries. One of those entries was Project New Hope with some other District Lions advertising our upcoming Centennial Celebration. Thank you PZC Pat for bringing up the Lions trailer for this event and marcher and riders were Lions Ron Smircich, Angela Hunt, Sam Adams, Bob Johnson and Angela s son Joey. We still have parades on Nov 26 Olympia, Dec 3- Sumner and Enumclaw and Dec 4 North Mason Belfair. We need Lions to take part. Come help us advertise for our upcoming BIRTHDAY. 100 YEARS ONLY HAPPENS ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Santas and Elfs needed! The Silverdale Sunrise Lions will provide pictures with Santa at the Fred Meyer store in East Bremerton again this year. If you ve ever wanted to sit in the big chair and show your inner kindness to little ones in our community, or if you ve been a jolly Santa and would like to be again, here s your chance. Contact John Gardner at jgardner@donobi.net to get your name on this schedule. It would be a great help for a very worthwhile project and fundraiser. District C Convention The planning committee for our District C Convention has been hard at work. You will be amazed at the quality of the seminars, the number of fun activities and the great speakers that they ve lined up. The following pages detail the great schedule that has been developed for us in Olympia on March 31 st and April 1 st. Mark your new 2017 calendar and plan to join in. Do you golf or bowl?
