1 Issue 8 February 2017 District Governor Jan Weatherly Trust: Something You Can Count On I trust that you will register by March 11 th for the District C Convention, March 31-April 1, to get the lower registration rate. I trust that all clubs will pay their dues to LCI and MD19 by February 28, 2017, so their delegate(s) can vote in the 2017 district election. I trust that Zone 1, 4 and 5 will identify a Lion willing to step forward as Zone Chair for I trust that you will reach out to resolve differences in your club before valued members leave Lions. You can trust me to always work toward the highest good for our district and your club. Five statements of trust, each with a different perspective on the meaning or outcome of trust. The first two statements identify the needed action and the outcome that you can count on. Registering by March 11th will result in a $10 lower registration cost. Paying your dues on time will result in your club delegates being able to vote in the 2017 election. You can trust that those actions will take place. The third statement is one of faith that someone will recognize that zone chair is their next step in their own leadership path. You can trust that the experience will teach you things about yourself you didn t know and will open doors to new experiences. Likewise, the fourth statement is also one of faith, however the action is very personal if this is an issue in your club. I trust you will seek to resolve differences before members you worked hard to acquire and invested time and caring in getting to know, leave the Pride. Trust is one of my core values. Trust is earned though our actions and it is lost through our actions. And once lost, trust is very difficult to earn again. My pledge to you is to always stay focused on the highest good for the district. That is what you elected me to do. You can trust me to follow through. You can trust me to tell you the truth and I expect you to do the same. And you can trust that I will help your club to the best of my ability, seeking first to understand the issues before action is taken. My Lions family, in this time of uncertainty, let us trust in each other to live by the Lions Code of Ethics and seek first to understand. Treat each other and those we serve with kindness and a gentle spirit. These actions will go a long way to building Trust that can last a lifetime. DG Jan

By PZC Bob Johnson Centennial Celebration Chair The progressive of our Centennial is constantly moving forward.

Lion Iris has stepped up to chair the information and lost and found committee and Lion Margie is chairing our recruiting committee, membership acquisition.

We are looking at 22 clubs and Project New having booths at the Centennial. We are procuring entertainment and are looking for a DJ. DAPC will have booth for a diabetes screening.

We are still looking committee chairman for the Parking, Post Event Party and 19C Historical Booth. Contact Cent Chair Bob Johnson if interested.

We also have 25 clubs who have decided on what their Continental Legacy Project will be a few more in the wings that will soon make a decision.

I am VERY GLAD to announce the addition of Lion Iris Young from North Mason and Convention Chair Margie Torbron can take a more active role. Lion Iris has stepped up to chair the information and lost and found committee and Lion Margie is chairing our recruiting committee, membership acquisition. I am also glad to announce the addition of KL Jake Smith and Lion Roy Coffey to our Centennial Planning Committee. Clock Tower Park is now ready to have us come for extended visit. We are looking at 22 clubs and Project New having booths at the Centennial. We are procuring entertainment and are looking for a DJ. DAPC will have booth for a diabetes screening. The new Group Health 19 C trailer will be on sight. Mc Namara s Bar & Eatery, of DuPont will be highly involved come Aug 12. We are still looking committee chairman for the Parking, Post Event Party and 19C Historical Booth. Contact Cent Chair Bob Johnson if interested. Our goal is to have all clubs earn at least two Centennial Service Patches with most clubs being eligible for earning four and 18 clubs being eligible for four patches with all four stones. Goal is 90% of our 19 C clubs do a Legacy Project and please let know what your project is. At this writing, there have been nearly 133 million served in our four Centennial Service Areas; Vision, Hunger, Environment and Sight. KEEP GROWLING LOUDLY. LCIF still has ten million dollars left to reach their commitment on the MEASLES project. Any Lion can make a special personal donation of any amount from your Lions Club and receive a special pin for doing so. Just make sure I get the name and club name. There must be someone in every club that deserves a MELVIN JONES. This would be a good time to recognize them. Perhaps you already have enough money in your LCIF account to do this, but do not know. 9 Curling Anyone-February 10 th -11th?? By PZC Pat Burch Join the annual trek of curlers to Campbell River (British Columbia) to join our 19 I-5 Lions north of the border in their annual Twin Curling Bonspiel (curling) event. You do not have be a seasoned curler to join the FUN. Novices are welcome! As usual, there will be a pot luck dinner on Friday February 10th, curling during the day on Saturday with the banquet dinner Saturday evening. Cost is $45 Cdn. which includes registration/fun night, dinner, trophies and exercise. (See below for details on our district calendar-february 10 th ) They would like to have a count of the number of person(s) as soon as possible- Contact Lynne franklyn4741@gmail.com. You will need a passport, or NEXUS to travel. Dear Fellow Lions, We re writing you just to let everyone know that this year the Lions International Twin Curling Bonspiel will be held on February 11th. We hope to have another great turnout like last year. We encourage you to bring guests to participate. This is a great opportunity to introduce prospective Lions to Lions from other places and clubs. They can experience the camaraderie between Lions. On the Friday registration/fun night we will again have the mini-olympics at the Willow Point Lions Hall. This is a warmup for the next day. The Saturday will begin at 9:00 am at the Curling rink. We will have access to rock pushers. This is a new tool that you can use to deliver the rock without bending down on your knees. Your registration fee of $45.00 Cdn. includes dinner, trophies and exercise. dinner tickets will be available for $ Extra There are accommodations available at one of a number of Lions homes. Staying with a fellow Lion will also bring us closer as friends, so please take advantage of this offer. It will also save you the $60-$80.CDN per night for a motel. Don t miss this event. The Lions of zone 19-I-5 are looking forward to again showing you our hospitality. We see the District Governor at District Governor Advisory Meetings (aka Zone Meetings). We occasionally see the District Governor at club or zone service projects.

10 What does a District Governor do? By IPDG Al Hedstrom We see the District Governor at a club visit with congratulations on accomplishments and encouragements to continue and expand. We see the District Governor presiding at cabinet meetings accumulating reports and discussing Lions issues of the day. We see the District Governor at District Governor Advisory Meetings (aka Zone Meetings). We occasionally see the District Governor at club or zone service projects. We see the District Governor presiding over the annual convention. Those events take up a small portion of the District Governor s time and effort. What don't we see? Unless we re at the same events, we don t see the District Governor at: Meetings with zone chairs and district leadership on establishing and then seeing through (at all levels of the district) meaningful goals. Meetings to choose the right Lion to chair district committees. The monthly Club Support Team meetings. Another club s board meeting examining ways to prevent a club from folding. The MD-19 Council of Governors meetings examining how committees and the multiple district can improve. One of the district s three foundation s meetings. The other districts conventions. The many informal district leadership meetings. Meetings with two or three other Lions to resolve disputes. The hours on and phone exchanges with LCI. The hours spent traveling or the miles added to the District Governor s car. At club planning sessions. At MD-19 planning sessions in a far-flung area of the multiple district. Arriving home late from a club meeting and getting up early to attend another. At convention planning meetings working on ideas to improve and expand our annual celebration. At meetings with district chairs working on their goals. At other club installations, frequently as installing officer, in May and June. Agonizing over end-of-year recognition gifts for deserving Lions. The District Governor does all this to help improve our clubs, our zone, our district. It s often done behind the scenes and (usually) without medication or extra alcohol. 10
