5 The year is winding down fast. LCIF has done some marvelous things this year, as has our own district clubs. But, our work is not finished for this year because our goal has not been met. We set a goal of 100% of clubs participating and we still have ten clubs that have not given anything, to date. PLEASE make your donation to LCIF NOW. And, do not forget to make it a future Melvin Jones Fellowship for someone in your club. The Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) Board of Trustees recently announced the addition of a new position in Club Leadership, the CLUB LCIF COORDINATOR. This individual serves as an ambassador for LCIF in each club and is equipped to educate Lions about the activities of LCIF and its importance to Lions Clubs International. In previous years, LCIF Coordinators at the District and Multiple District levels have served as foundation ambassadors within their area. The addition of the Club LCIF Coordinator helps to support their effort and provide fellow members with timely information about important foundation initiatives. In order to make this program successful, we look to you for support in the following ways: 1. Ensure the club nominating committee has selected a Club LCIF Coordinator for a 1 year term ( ) and this individual is identified through My LCI or on your PU Devote at least one club meeting to an annual LCIF presentation provided by the Club Coordinator. 3. Support the Club LCIF Coordinator in planning annual fundraising and recognition events within their club. Some of the clubs in our district have already elected their Club LCIF Coordinator and I thank them for doing so. It has been my pleasure to serve the district this year and I urge you to support PZC Pat Taylor of Auburn Noon Lions who will be doing this position next year. Remember, LCIF IS OUR FOUNDATION. By PDG Barbara Ellis This the last issue of the District 19 News for District Governor Jan. I wish to thank DG Jan and also the readers of this Newsletter for the opportunity to serve as your Editor. My intent has always been to present the news to you in a professional manner and hopefully I have succeeded in doing that. PDG Frank Paul 5

6 By PZC Bob Johnson New things are happening for our Centennial. All clubs have now received there flyers to put in business windows. All you Lions go to work. Some Sani-Kans have been obtained and we are in the process of procuring a large dumpster for clean up. We are up to a total of over 50 vendors and climbing. We have just landed Lion Dan Harrington to play the national Anthem to open our celebration. He will be accompanied by the color guard from Lewis/McChord and a 12 year old who will sing the anthem. It looks like Lion Bob McLean will come with his van to test hearing. PLEASE BRING CANNED GOODS FOR EFN!!. Governor Jan Weatherly has volunteered to be the volunteer coordinator. Things are taking shape that way. Contact Lion Jan or Lion Bob to volunteer. We particularly need Lions to work our membership booth. Congratulations to the Gig Harbor Lions on completing their successful Legacy Project of Cleaning and remodeling the Finholm Hill Climb. (See picture on the next page). We have also procured another place to park about three blocks from the park. Rides can be provided if needed. Make sure all you Lions go out and spread the word about our Centennial Celebration. Distribute those PERSONAL INVITATION POSTCARDS. - WE SERVE - BRING CANNED GOODS FOR E.F.N.!!!!!!!!!! Here are some statistics dealing with our Lions Centennial. This was in a report made by PDG J. D. Nellor our American MD Centennial Coordinator. District C applied for and received a grant for $ from international. Not all districts have done that. District C has reported and completed 49 Legacy projects. The next highest American district is 21 legacy projects. WELL DONE C, KEEP IT UP. In the Centennial Service Challenge, District C has 41 of 48 clubs reporting or 85% for people served in our Centennial period. We handily lead by percentage but are second behind district G, only in number of people served. WELL DONE, KEEP IT UP. In membership growth, we have brought in 394 centennial members so far and lead that category by well over 100 members. We are the only district that has been positive in membership in the last two years.. this year could be three in a row. AGAIN, WELL DONE C, KEEP IT UP. There is one year left in our Centennial, let s see if we can get all clubs to do a legacy project and report Centennial Service Challenge information to Lions International. DISTRICT C LEADS THE WAY. WE LEAD AND WE SERVE. C LIONS, YOU ROCK 6

8 Lions Youth Exchange For many years Lions Youth Exchange has been an integral part of the 19C program, for much of that time Lions Mel Williamson (Shelton) and Bob Kelley (Lacey Sunrise) were instrumental in the Multiple District program as well as in 19C. They have both retired after their many years and many of the other Lions in the MD19 program have also retired. By PDG George Robison I am the current 19C Youth Exchange Chair (Key Peninsula), and am also serving as the MD19 Youth Exchange Chair. I have asked the clubs and zones do two things: 1: Send me an at georgerobison@centurytel.net including any information about the club or zone participation in any youth exchange activity such as sister-city exchanges or direct club to club exchanges. 2. Announce in a club and zone meetings that the Youth Exchange Program is seeking host families and Lions who are interested in actively participating in the program. Further information is available through me or at and Walk for Diabetic Retinopathy By John W Herr District 19C Chair Diabetic Awareness Committee The 2017 District 19C Lions Clubs Walk for Diabetic Retinopathy was successful in that another $ was raised toward the needs-based grants program for individuals within the District 19C geographic area who need money for diabetic retinopathy procedures and whose insurance will not cover the associated costs I would like to thank all of those Lions who answered the call to register at least one participant in the event along with those Lions who also walked I would especially like to thank super fundraiser PDG Emerson Bishop for heeding the call and raising the most money Please watch for information on the needs-based grants application process which will be published in the near future As with any fundraising or service project the event would not be accomplished without the help of fellow Lions I would like to thank the following Lions for standing up to help make the event successful Lions Ron Hirning Kay Hirning and Pat Carpenter, Puyallup South Hill Lions Club.
