1 Welcome to the first fundraising update of This update advises of the most current fundraising activities being carried out by the society at both National and Regional level. In addition to the items outlined, if you or any of your colleagues have an event whether local or national which may be of interest to others in the society and wish to publicise it, please follow the link to and enter the event details directly on to our website. 2 MS Care Centre Lunch 2014 The fourth annual MS Care Centre Lunch takes place in the Four Seasons, Dublin on Friday May 16 th The hilarious Barry Murphy is confirmed as the celebrity auctioneer for the day and entrepreneur and person with MS, Conor Devine will join us as one of our guest speakers. Our celebrity key-note speaker will be announced in March watch this space! Tickets are 100 are now available to purchase through the MS Ireland online shop or by calling the fundraising team on All funds raised through the event go directly towards supporting the MS Care Centre. MS Spring/Summer Raffle 2014 Sincere thanks to all of you who participated and sold tickets as part of our annual raffle campaign Plans are well underway for the upcoming campaign. We have simplified our prize offer; individual tickets will be 2 each and multiple buys are again 3 tickets for 5. Our top two prizes will remain at 2000 and 1000 respectively. MS Ireland members will be issued with 2 books of tickets through the upcoming edition of MS News. I would appeal to all our members to participate in our annual Raffle Appeal. Sell more Tickets to boost your Fundraising! On the back of the above campaign, if our branches wish to enhance their fundraising income by selling additional tickets for this raffle we are happy to split the proceeds. Branches can yield up to 58% profit from the sale of additional tickets. Please see the table below. 3 MS Ireland Calendar 2015 As last year, our 2015 Calendar will be available through retailers and our online shop for 7.00 per unit. Many of our branches enhanced their fundraising efforts by purchasing calendars and selling themselves to generate income. The 2015 calendar will be available for our branches to buy for 3.50 per unit to retail at Contact the fundraising team from June to order calendar stock which will be distributed to branches from August RSA Speedo Torpedo Event RSA Insurance will be organising their Speedo Torpedo event again this year to raise funds for the MS Care Centre. The event is a sponsored swim in the 40 foot and last year the event raised a fantastic 15,000 for the Care Centre. This year s Speedo Torpedo takes place on June 26 th. Terenure Rugby Tournament Terenure Rugby Club are planning a rugby tournament event this summer with all funds raised going to the MS Care Centre. School visit programme School Ambassadors have started visiting secondary schools to present the CSPE and Transition Year talks around the country. We have had really positive feedback from the schools to date and every school that took part will be running a fundraiser for MS Ireland in the coming months. Funds will go to the Care Centre. Vantastival A partnership with Vantastival festival in Co Louth has just been secured again for this May bank holiday weekend. This year we plan to have a volunteer face-painter and balloon modeler on site to increase donations. All funds raised will go the MS Care Centre Second Phase of Text Campaign The second phase of the text donation campaign is planned for June of this year. We are hoping to involve some members of the Irish men and women s rugby teams to play on the idea of teamwork to tie in with Carers Week Spring 2014 Page 3

4 Tea party The MS Ireland Tea Party is due to be launched at the end of March and will run throughout April. Individuals and businesses will be encouraged to organise a Tea Party event in their home or office for MS Ireland. Packs will be available to download from the website or participants can register by calling the fundraising team on Corporate Donations/ Partnerships Shamrockin for MS Ireland our corporate campaign in the lead up to St Patrick s Day has just been launched. Corporates are being encouraged to run a St Patrick s Day themed event in their office to raise funds for MS Ireland. A Shamrockin fundraising pack has been developed for this. RCSI Student Union are one of our corporate partners for this year and are running a number of events for MS Ireland. They recently ran an information evening which Roseanna Dukes spoke at and raised over 8,000 through their Rag Week collections. They also have a team of 65 students taking part in the Run-a-Muck Challenge for MS Ireland and have a number of other events in the pipeline for the coming months. Bank of Ireland Tallaght are running a Bank s Got Talent event in the Plaza Hotel Tallaght on March 21 st, to raise funds for MS Ireland. Ballyfermot College of Further Education Student Union recently organised a week of fundraising for MS Ireland in the college. Himalaya Yoga, Cork will be running a yoga workshop on World MS Day to raise funds for MS Ireland World MS Day Planning has begun for World MS Day RTE Radio have been approached as a potential partner through links made with Rick O Shea who did the voiceover on the ad for the Care Centre text campaign last year. This year, the day will be marked by a nationwide collection as well as a number of events organised by supporters around the country. Spring 2014 Page 4

5 Pins The majority of our stock of MS Ireland emblem pins is gone at this stage. This was done through a combination of a JMT pin campaign, and selling the pins in credit unions and at MS Ireland events such as World MS Day. The remaining stock will be sold on World MS Day and through replenishments of stock in our partnering credit unions. MS Walks and Events We will be having three treks in 2014, one Irish trek in Achill, our 25 th Camino walks and a trek in Turkey. A mailing went out to our database about the three treks and registration forms are now starting to come in from this. Achill Island May Bank Holiday Weekend The reduced price point has made this trek very attractive. We would hope with the mailing gone to our walks database at the end of February that this trek will fill up soon. Camino 25 Our 25 th Camino walk is leaving Ireland on the 31 st of May and returning on the 12 th of June. Registrations are starting to come in and we have 31 people registered to date for this trek. Our second information evening is being held this Feb the 28 th in the MS Ireland Office. The first training walk is taking place on the 2 nd March Fliers are being handed out at the St. James society on the 1 st of March. Turkey Our third trek for 2014 will be in Turkey. The destination has proved to be very popular. Early interest is indicating that this will be the most popular of our treks in Mini Marathon 2014 We have launched the mini marathon campaign online for 2014, registration opened on the 19 th of Feb. We will be contacting all past participants by phone in March and asking them to take part and bring some friends. An went out to all the females on our database with an address from Ava, this was received well and we have seen a spike in registrations. Caroline Moraghan was announced as our Spring 2014 Page 5

6 Mini Marathon ambassador, and a press campaign has been launched around this, press should hit on the first week in March. Ad Hoc Sports Events Due to numerous requests we will be having a spring and Summer skydive. Dates for the skydive are the 22 nd of June and the 4 th of October. We have several people running the Connemara Marathon in April for MS Ireland. We have 3 people to date doing the New York marathon and we have also secured places on a no risk basis, we will be advertising these online. We also have London Marathon places secured for 2015 on a no risk basis. Both these races are extremely difficult to get places so should be a great fundraising opportunity for MS Ireland. One of the Europe s most well-known adventures Ripley Davenport currently living in Kerry is planning a swim around Ireland and is hoping to over for MS Ireland. The swim will take 90 days and will be a World Record if completed. He will start the swim in June. In 2014 we plan to increase number on for the Dublin City Marathon and build on 2013 success. MS READaTHON schools and 14,500 readers took part in the 2013 MS READaTHON, raising an amazing 500,000 for people with MS. Prizes were presented in February, and certificates and gifts for all participants are currently being distributed. The 2013 School Visit Program has proved very successful. 33 ambassadors visited schools around the country, making 37 classroom presentations about Multiple Sclerosis in the process. Certain areas would benefit from additional ambassadors next year, especially: South Dublin, Donegal, Limerick, Kerry, Offaly, Sligo, Waterford and Wexford. Ambassador co-ordinator Coranne Werner will be getting in touch with regional offices and branches over the coming months for their invaluable input. Materials There are a number of resources available to the branches buckets, bucket tags, t-shirts, posters, baseball hats, calendars, shopping bags, flag roll stickers, high-viz vests, point of sale boxes and pins.
