2 SANTA S SENIORS WITH JULY BIRTHDAYS Marked with * 80 Years or Older (907) NEWS santaseniors@alaska.net JULY 2018 VOLUME VII THE END IS NEAR 101 E. 5th Avenue North Pole, Alaska Now, that headline is not the best to say to Seniors. The end of Construction at OUR Center is near. They are pouring concrete and laying asphalt. Hopefully they should be done by mid-july. But we will keep you up-to-date on the location of our next luncheon. It will be a monumental task to get moved back in, in a coordinated way. The Moose and the Lutheran Church have been gracious hosts, but it will be wonderful to move back home. Special thanks to our neighbors who responded to our donation letters and gave to the center: Chena Hot Springs, Emulsion Products, Alaska Aerofuel, MT. McKinley Bank, and Forbes Storage. Hopefully more will have replied by the time you read this. The search continues for our Café Chairs for our new Center. We have ordered 4 chairs to try. If these are the ones we will let you know the price for donations. Thanks in advance for your generosity. You re all invited to my home for my annual potluck BBQ on July 28th at 12pm. 3 National Days INDEPENDENCE DAY 4th of July Each year on July 4, The United States celebrates Independence Day. This day is a federal holiday which commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. At noon, a Salute to the Union is fired, each Independence Day, by any capable military base. This is a salute of one gun for each state in the United States. NATIONAL HIRE A VETERAN DAY 25th of July Every day, hundreds of our military personnel leave the service in search of civilian employment. On July 25, employers across the country are reminded to consider these servicemen and women as highly trained, qualified individuals to fill open positions in their ranks during National Hire a Veteran Day. While legislation is in place protecting separating servicemen and women as they enter the nonmilitary workforce, the best way a potential employer can honor a veteran is to hire one! Around the world, our military personnel serves to protect our freedom. While they are doing so, provide their returning brothers and sisters with the opportunities to pursue a career in the civilian world. Find qualified candidates for a range of fields from Information Technology, Engineering and Cyber Security, to Sales, Marketing, Management, Finance, Healthcare, Skilled Trades and so many more! NATIONAL TALK IN AN ELEVATOR DAY 27th of July National Talk In An Elevator Day is observed annually on the last Friday in July. This day encourages people to make conversation while riding in an elevator. Most of us use this time to check our smart devices for , messages, appointments and other notifications. Take a break and meet someone new while riding in an elevator. Santa s Senior Center Corporation, Inc Officers and Board of Directors President Goldie Southwood Vice-Pres. 4 JUNE BIRTHDAY LUNCHEON HIGHLIGHTS What a great time we had at the June birthday luncheon. The atmosphere in the room was full of energy and fellowship, it was great to see so many of you enjoying each others company. Goldie entertained us talking about her recent trip with her Granddaughter Morgen. She took us step by step through her amazing adventure and had us laughing a few times when she would tell us about Morgen leaving her behind cause she is too slow.. Especially when Morgen said she was going to swim to another island. It also seems like they drank / tasted a lot of wine. The food at the Luncheon was outstanding. Everyone enjoyed the lasagna, garlic bread, green beans, and fresh salad. June Birthday members pictured below, Pictured Left to right Henry Gurley, Patti Mann, Benny Williams Luncheon Ticket = Frank Rhines 50/50 $45.00 = Pat Yates Door Prize, Cora Williams Congratulations to all our winners!
