PSI/PSHS Christmas Concert and What a fantastic first semester of the school year that is coming to a close! Final exams are right around the corner for our secondary students, but it is still not too late to take advantage of the time we have left! I would like to thank our students and teachers for a great first half of the school year. Besides all of the impressive work happening inside the classroom, we saw a lot of great achievements by our fall athletes and our performing arts students. I cannot wait see what the second half of the year has in store for us! At this time on behalf of the staff at PSIHS, we want to wish you a restful holiday, and meaningful time with your family, and all the very best for the New Year! 1

This cookbook features over 200 recipes many developed or adapted by PSHS students. The cost of the cookbook is $20 and all proceeds will be put towards equipment required to establish a low cost hot breakfast program. 3 PSI Winter Clothing Drive and Food Drive Thank you to everyone who has helped support the winter clothing drive for families in need, along with the food donations gathered during WE Scare Halloween! Your support not only helps families in needs, but also helps our students realize how they can impact our community. Girls Hockey The girls hockey team travelled to Bracebridge to take on BMLSS in the first game of the regular season. Although the girls suffered a lopsided loss to a very strong BMLSS team there were many positives that came out of the game. Lucy Childerhose scored 3 goals for a hat trick and half the team participated in their first ever hockey game! On November 28th the girls hockey team participated at their first tournament in Almaguin. The team played 3 games throughout the day against Widdifield (North Bay), Horizon (Sudbury) and Marymount (Sudbury). Although the girls did not come up with a victory they had a lot of fun and showed progress and development as the games went on. They received many compliments from the opposition coaches as to their never give up attitude! Goal scorers were Alexis Nicholas and Payton Brown. A special mention to Meranda-Lynne Steeves in net who was very busy facing a lot of shots. The girls are now looking forward to a busy New Year with a lot of regular season games coming up. Way to go girls you represented Parry Sound well! 3

4 PSI/PSHS Present: Twas the Night Before An amazing evening was held at PSIHS, showcasing performances by the budding Gr 7 Band, and Gr 8 Band lead by Mr. Robinson, and our Concert Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble and Vocal Class lead by Ms. Brown! The audience was also treated to the incredible displays of Ms. Hupfield s and Mrs. Beasley s art student s work. Bravo to all our staff and students involved in the evening! 5 From Student Services The New Year is a busy time in Student Services. Semester 2 timetables are being distributed soon and students are encouraged to make changes before the start of semester 2, which is February 4. There is still room in the semester 2 Building Construction Dual Credit being offered in conjunction with Canadore College. It s a great way to explore this trade plus earn 2 high school and 2 college credits. We will be visiting our Grade 8 feeder schools over the month of January to begin the 2019/2020 course selection process. There will be an initial visit in which we provide students with the information needed to make informed decisions. The next visit will involve inputting the selections. There will be a Grade 8 Parent Information Night in the midst of these visits so that parents can ask questions and receive additional information regarding the transition to high school. Please check school websites, after the holiday, for a date and time. Students who plan on attending university this September are reminded that the deadline to apply is Wednesday, January 16. The Ontario Colleges deadline to apply (for equal consideration in highly competitive programs) is February 1. Students are encouraged to make an appointment in Student Services if they would like help with their application. Community Involvement and scholarship opportunities continue to roll in to our office. Our practical exams are a component of the summative evaluations, along with the final written exams. Student attendance is mandatory on both summative evaluation days (Practical and Final Exams).
