4 SUMMARY General objectives To generate and validate an innovative European model of good practice for HIV prevention in MSM for use across Europe, and particularly in gay venues. This will be supported through the collaborative efforts of a European network of organisations consisting of public administrations, academic organisations, NGOs who are active in HIV issues or defending the rights of gay people, and organisations which bring together gay business owners. The model of good practice which will be developed within the Everywhere project aims to put culturally adapted HIV prevention information and materials in clients hands in those environments where anonymous sex between men is practiced. This will contribute to raising awareness within MSM of HIV prevention messages by joining forces with four different businesses sectors that are associated with HIV preventing homosexual tourism and entertainment in Europe. Strategic relevance and contribution to the public health programme The focus of the project lies within the priority objectives of the European Community s Public Health Programme as it concentrates on HIV prevention in MSM from an international perspective, linking countries with ample, average and scarce resources and experiences in outreach to settings where sex between men is practiced, such as, France, Spain and Poland, respectively. Its aim is to create and validate a model to be used by different stakeholders around Europe. It will adopt an innovative inter-sector approach linking the public sector, private sector and civil society working in a partnership. Methods and means The model will create and test by means of a pilot action lasting five months a series of activities designed to articulate an effective, pertinent and appropriate methodology for reaching venues, settings and activities linked to sex ( anonymous or not) between men. To this end, a network of specialised social mediators will be established made up of 32 mediators from eight countries. These mediators identified and operate within business venues associated with sex between men: saunas, discos, hotels, travel agencies, dating websites etc. The goal is to reach those who are responsible for running the businesses in order to involve them in HIV prevention work, creating an action protocol according to the type of business. The companies that join this effort shall obtain a quality seal recognising their commitment and joint responsibility (SR-HIV Seal). Page 4/21

5 Expected outcomes period Up to 140 European businesses in Europe directly contacted with thirty of the businesses expected to be certified with the quality seal in the first instance. The intervention model shall be evaluated and finalised will be distributed electronically among the organisations cooperating with the project for comment and will be available to download from the Everywhere website.
