Field Internship Students may also apply to perform their internship by serving in their own communities or apprenticing with a practitioner or clinic of their choice. Students will be accepted for a field internship on the basis of past business or clinical experience and/or their understanding of the commitment needed to succeed in an off-site internship. In exceptional cases, AYU Ayurvedic Academy will be assisting in finding internships in India. Each intern will be responsible for the completion of all required hours and reporting. 16. Graduation A Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner or Advanced Ayurvedic Practitioner Certificate of completion will be awarded to students who successfully complete the entire program in good academic standing. No student with outstanding tuition or fees may graduate. Students can then enroll in the remaining two correspondence courses totaling 6 credits, to receive a *Master s Degree in Ayurvedic Sciences*, offered by the collaboration between Ayurvedic Academy and Hindu University of America. 13

14 17. Class Video Checkout Policy 1. Only one set of videos may be borrowed at a time. 2. Videos are checked out on a first come, first serve basis. 3. Checked out videos must be returned within 10 days. 4. Local students are responsible for picking up the videos from the library. 5. To avoid wasting a trip, please call to confirm that the video you want is available for check out. 6. Distance learning students should contact the Academy when they are ready for another video. 18. Taking the India Intensive or Advanced Ayurvedic Practitioner course (AAP, Level 2) before taking the Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner (CAP, Level 1) course Yes, this is an option. While students who start with the CAP course will gain an outstanding base of knowledge in Ayurveda (and this will, of course, help them get the most out of the India Intensive and/or AAP course), we also have many students who are primarily interested in studying Ayurveda in India. The India Intensive and AAP course were designed with this in mind. Both of these courses are open to new students with a good understanding of Ayurveda. Usually, we suggest that new students watch the videos of the first three CAP classes before attending the India Intensive. This helps students enter the India Intensive and/or AAP program well-prepared, with an outstanding base knowledge of Ayurveda. As a reminder, both of these courses are considered necessary prerequisites to the Masters Degree in Ayurvedic Sciences, awarded by Hindu University of America...for students interested in pursuing this degree. 19. Online Registration and Payment Options Please visit our web site at for online registration and payment options. 20. Registering for Individual Courses offered within the Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner Program as Distance Learning Courses Students receive course handouts, including content from The Textbook of Ayurvedic Medicine, by Ayurvedic Academy Director Dr. Vivek Shanbhag, and video tapes of the Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner s weekend classes (sent and returned by mail). We offer quizzes and a Certificate of Completion for each course, though these are not required. Registration can be completed online by selecting the desired course from the Distance Learning section of our online store. Registration and Admissions fee payments are not required for this option. 21. Tax Deduction for Work Related Education For many healthcare practitioners and small business owners, our courses are often tax deductible as healthcare and/or continuing education related expenses. Consult your tax advisor for further details. 22. English-as-a-second language The AYU Ayurvedic Academy (AAA) does not offer English-as-a-second language. 23. Suggested Reading Items Book Categories in our online store correspond to topics taught in the Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, Advanced Ayurvedic Practitioner and Master s Degree in Ayurvedic Sciences programs. While we encourage students to complete as much of the suggested reading as possible, these books are suggested reading, not required. Many students are especially interested in further study on particular course topics, and we provide these other book titles to help students further their studies. Please see our web site for a complete book list. 24. Discounts on Products & Services for Current Students and Graduates 1. Students enrolled in the Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner Course, Advanced Ayurvedic Practitioner Course and Master s Degree in Ayurvedic Science receive a 15% discount on online orders for AYU product and services during their studies and after graduation. Discount applies to products and services, not future courses. 2. Students enrolled in Individual Distance Learning Courses receive a 15% discount on online orders for AYU products and services for 90 days after online enrollment. Discount applies to products and services, not future courses. Purchase of additional courses provides additional 90 day periods of discounts on products and services % discounts for online orders of AYU products and services will be applied as chargebacks to the credit card used to place the order (usually within a few days after purchase). 25. Lodging, Transportation and Driving Directions Bastyr University, where we teach our Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner Course, is located about 45 minutes to 1 hour from Seattle Tacoma airport. There are many hotels in a variety of price ranges close to the school. Also, there s an onsite vegetarian cafeteria, an extensive library and an outstanding herb garden to visit during you free time. See Contact Information below for additional information. 26. Contact Information For additional questions, please contact our Academy and Clinic Director, Dr. Shanbhag, MD(Ayurved, India), ND(Bastyr, USA). He is usually available to answer student questions, M-F, 9-6 (pacific time) at Academy, Clinic and Spa Address: 819 NE 65th St. Seattle WA
