1 Majr Accmplishments Natinal New Bard Chair at CSC Headquarters Cancer Supprt Cmmunity annunced that J. Neil Bassett is the new chair f the Headquarters Bard f Directrs. Neil is Vice President, Investments, at UBS Financial Services and has lng been invlved in cmmunity service. In 2003, he jined the bard f The Wellness Cmmunity Arizna, where he served as chair and treasurer. In early 2008, Neil was elected t the Cancer Supprt Cmmunity Headquarters Bard f Directrs, where mst recently, he was bard vice chair. Accrding t Neil, What makes the Cancer Supprt Cmmunity s phenmenal is that the scial and emtinal supprt we prvide is prven t have substantive value and that we prvide ur valued services free f charge Cancer Supprt Cmmunity Celebrated 30 Years at Annual Cnference in LA. Affiliates frm acrss the cuntry gathered in Ls Angeles s L.A. Live cmplex fr the annual cnference and t celebrate the 30th anniversary f The Wellness Cmmunity. The meeting is an pprtunity fr affiliate leaders t share, learn and present n a wide range f tpics and issues frm develpment, scial media, public plicy, prgrams and management. The week includes plenary seminars, netwrking sessins and breakut wrkshps while ffering affiliates the pprtunity t learn frm speakers as well as share best practices amng clleagues. Research and Advcacy: Where Has CSC Been? CSC is active year-rund in netwrking and sharing findings with ther research leaders arund the wrld. Chris Gayer, Ph.D., Research Manager at CSC s Research and Training Institute, attended the 65th Annual Gerntlgical Sciety f America (GSA) cnference in San Dieg in Nvember. During the three-day meeting, Chris presented findings n CancerSupprtSurce, CSC s validated distress screening prgram, t researchers, administratrs, advcates and medical prfessinals frm arund the cuntry. He als presented research frm his wn dissertatin wrk n the impact f a cancer diagnsis n cancer-related decisin making. CSCD was als chsen and trained t ffer the Cancer Supprt Surce Distress Screening Tl beginning in This evidenced based shrt internet questinnaire will help CSCD guide ur participants and prgrams in the upcming years. Tw ther innvative natinal prgrams that we are wrking n include the Kids Supprt prgram, a ten sessin psych-educatinal prgram intended t address the needs f children wh are dealing with cancer and Reclaiming Intimacy after Cancer, a special prgram funded by the Patty Brisben Fundatin. 6

7 We prvided a mnthly cancer supprt grup at St. Francis Hspital and had an additinal six educatinal supprt prgrams thrugh ur cmmunity partners. We attended mnthly cmmunity presentatins at the Helen Graham Cancer Center in additin t several cmmunity health fairs t spread the wrd f ur services and prgrams. We cntinue t have ff-site prgrams at Crsslands in Chester Cunty, Pennsylvania. We have strng cllabrative relatinships with the American Cancer Sciety, the Leukemia and Lymphma Sciety, Lung Cancer Alliance, Pancreatic Cancer Actin Netwrk and the American Brain Tumr Fundatin. We cllabrate as well with the Helen Graham Cancer Center, Chester Cunty Hspital and all lcal and reginal medical facilities that serve peple with cancer. Weekly, we have five supprt grups, seven site specific supprt grups, three yga/t ai chi prgrams, Danzare a dancing exercise class, and self-hypnsis. In additin, we prvide mnthly educatinal and scial prgrams. We had six graduate student interns frm three different prfessinal scial wrk prgrams: Bryn Mawr, West Chester and Widener Universities. Additinally three nursing prgrams sent their student t us fr bth shrt term and intermediate term educatinal pprtunities. Special Events Susan Dubb, Special Events Directr, New Castle Cunty reprted net incme f $159,390 n the fllwing events: 175 guests enjyed a new venue, Deerfield Glf Club, fr the 7 th Annual Red Balln Brunch Dickie DiSabatin Glf Memrial in its 17 th year hsted 110 glfers at Bidermann Glf Club. Participated in Strides fr Hpe Disney with 24 walkers and runners fr ur first evening race. Hsted a guest bartending event at the Brandywine Brewing Cmpany which netted ver $7,000 fr the Barbara Cnway Memrial Birthday Party. Held 2 lcal runs, The Cliff 5K, with ver 225 runners and walkers at a high schl crss cuntry event at Banning Park with ver 10 high schls participating. Received a dnatin frm Kns Lexus f Wilmingtn fr every car purchased r leased frm July t December which netted ver $15,000. Kent Cunty The Cancer Supprt Cmmunity Kent Cunty ffice cntinues t grw by expanding ur Advisry Cmmittee and funding surces within ur area. This allws us t ffer mre prgrams t the Kent Cunty cmmunity. As a result f the need, we increased prgram fferings in Milfrd with tw tai chi fferings per week at the Milfrd Senir Center and the Bayhealth Milfrd Campus. Added a new fitness prgram t the calendar, Fit ver Fifty, thanks t a grant frm the Palmer Fundatin. Sustained a strng cancer supprt grup fr peple with cancer and their caregivers. Cllabrated with Delaware Breast Cancer Calitin, American Cancer Sciety, Bayhealth Medical Center, Milfrd Memrial Hspital, Milfrd Senir Center, Delaware Hspice, Cmpassinate Care Hspice and Leukemia Sciety in events and prgrams in the cmmunity. Partnered with ACS and DBCC t hst 2 Pink Teas: At Bayhealth in Dver and at Bayhealth Cancer Center in Milfrd. Increased attendance and participatin in the African American Breast Cancer Supprt Grup in Kent Cunty - Wings f Hpe which is still ging strng and grwing. 8

Sussex Cunty 2012 As we reflect n 2012, it is clear that we truly made a difference in the lives f peple affected by cancer and their lved nes here in Sussex Cunty. Our Sussex Cunty satellite ffice finished ut the year with 4,155 participant visits, a 26% increase as cmpared t We prvided prgrams and services t 481 participants, an increase f 53% ver The staff in Sussex Cunty wrked hard t meet ur budget gals. We are grateful t have received generus cmmunity and crprate supprt t benefit ur Sussex ffice and prgrams in Thanks t this supprt, and als substantial grants frm DuPnt, Susan G. Kmen fr the Cure, Discver Bank and AstraZeneca, the Sussex Cunty satellite prvided cmprehensive utreach, educatin and cancer supprt prgrams fr lw incme, uninsured and medically underserved peple in western Sussex and rural Kent cunties. We received a FACES Grant frm the Carl M. Freeman Fundatin in supprt f ur survivrship prgram, Finding Strength Tgether. We received a generus grant frm the Delaware Divisin f the Arts fr ur Creating a Healing Jurnal. We als received supprt frm bth the Greater Lewes Fundatin and frm the Sussex Cunty Cuncil. They recgnize the imprtance f ensuring that Sussex Cunty residents have access t prfessinally facilitated, emtinal supprt services that are available at n charge at CSCD. Our prgrams and services give peple the tls t make a significant difference in their quality f life during their cancer experience. We cntinue t ffer a rbust variety f prgrams. In 2012, we ffered ntewrthy prgrams such as: Creating a Healing Jurnal, Frankly Speaking abut Breast Recnstructin, Hlding Ont a Hpeful Heart, Mind/Bdy Skills Grup, Plant Strng Meals and Understanding Lymphedema. We expanded ur very successful Learn Share Thrive initiative t include rural Kent Cunty and western Sussex Cunty. Funded again by a generus grant frm the Susan G. Kmen fr the Cure, the Learn Share Thrive prgram is designed t prvide preventin and screening infrmatin, educatin, supprt grups, and ther free resurces t uninsured / under insured African American wmen. Als in 2012, we partnered with Susan G. Kmen fr the Cure t begin a new cmmunity based initiative targeting Hispanic wmen. We hired a bilingual, cmmunity utreach crdinatr t facilitate the Sussex Cunty Latina Prject. The gal f this cllabrative effrt is t enhance utreach, decrease barriers t access t care, increase mammgraphy referrals and imprve breast health knwledge amng Latina wmen in Sussex Cunty. In 2012, ur fund-rising effrts cmbined with friend-raising effrts t develp strnger ties in the cmmunities we serve. The Wings f Hpe... A Butterfly Release has becme ur signature event in bth fund-raising and 9

10 friend-raising. This inspiratinal cmmunity event shwed a tremendus grwth this year with participatin frm numerus lcal businesses as spnsrs and an estimated attendance f 500. We als experienced a significant amunt f media attentin thrughut the regin fr Wings f Hpe. The Renew Yur Palette event is a great example f gaining thrugh giving. Alng with ur partners, the Salvatin Army Develpmental Disabilities Prgram and the Rehbth Beach Bys & Girls Club, we shwcased the pwer f art in healing and the pwer f cllabratin amng nn-prfit rganizatins. We were very frtunate t find ur cmmunity reaching ut t us as well thrugh beneficiary events such as A Pink Affair t Remember, Bat Drinks hsted by the Delaware Seashre Parrt Head Club and the Glade Cmmunity Blck Party. Wrking with ur partners, we participated as a member f the Sussex Cunty Survivr Calitin t create and distribute a survey t Sussex Cunty survivrs. The survey slicited feedback frm cancer survivrs t help us understand their nging needs. In ding s, we are better able t develp prgrams and services s that survivrs can live their best life after cancer treatment.
