Colour plays an integral role in our wellbeing and can have a powerful effect in reconnecting us to nature and bringing balance and harmony into our lives, which is why it has received such special attention. Reebok conducted detailed research of 5,000 women across the world to discover exactly what motivates them to exercise. The study found that many consider working out to be a chore, particularly on standard exercise machines, and are motivated by activities that are fun and engaging. Learning something new, being social, experiencing progression in their workouts and enjoying a sense of freedom is how women said they had fun while staying in shape. Alongside this research, Reebok has studied the latest trends in fashion and design and has worked with the Nelly Rodi agency (the foremost forecasting and trend agency) to determine colours and trends for specific global regions and consumers. The result of all this research is a new look and feel for the Reebok boxing, strength, mind and body and aerobic ranges, which comprise around 90 pieces of equipment in total. In addition, Reebok has also introduced a fresh palette of citrus colours for a vibrant and energetic feel to the range to give you the most contemporary look and feel for the gym or studio. How do you think the Industry should motivate its customers to Move It? Firstly by engaging them. No one has the right to tell someone they have only met for the first time that their product is worth buying. We need to engage the customer first then in time gain their trust, that way they will listen and everyone will MOVE It. How do you differentiate your business from your competitors? Loyalty in our brand. We try to create a place where a customer doesn t get the service and expertise anywhere else. We have the largest and most successful personal training business in the world and we need to remain at the forefront. This can only be done if people trust your brand. What new exercise trends do you see emerging in the next year? In the UK I don t think small group training has been maximized so I think that will grow hugely. Personal training is still in it s infancy in the UK so I think we will see a lot of good trainers come through the education channels which is fantastic. What is your strategy to ensure your business continues to be successful in the current economic climate? As I have mentioned, loyalty plays a huge part in this financial environment. Personal training is seen as an extra to people s lives but if you put a value on your health and wellbeing it becomes an essential. It s just getting that message across. The positive message is that people are starting to value their health a lot more and are willing to invest in expert advice to keep themselves from the risk of being absent from work: a positive in what could be viewed as a negative environment. If you could only have one piece of Escape Fitness equipment what would it be? I guess all of Escape s equipment is pretty good and I love the way that Escape is moving with the market. I think it is very important that they stay innovative. My one piece of Escape equipment if I had to choose one would be TRX. It s just awesome, a full body workout that is so accessible. How do you Move It? I think it s important not to overlook the main issues in society. The fact is that we sit down too much, use laptops too much and don t MOVE as much as we should. I always try to work in a resisted tri planar environment concentrating on hip flexibility and thoracic extension. Fitness First are the world s largest gym, health and fitness club group with more than 1.5 million members worldwide in more than 550 clubs and 160 in the UK alone. What was the requirement? With 16 Personal Trainers working at the club, Fitness First Bedford wanted to create a more specialist PT area with a variety of equipment to enable different training techniques to be performed. What equipment did they select? In 2008, the club extended an area of the gym and rearranged its existing free-weight equipment to incorporate this new area. Escape Fitness worked closely with the club to determine the best use of the space and supplied the equipment and flooring.
