Lisa welcomed Peter s Wife Sana and family present for the inauguration. Lisa also welcomed other guests present including Steven Wojnarowski from the Council of Australian University Directors of information Technology who was a guest of Dr Peter Baker. Lisa in her handover speech stated that she enjoyed the year of her Presidency and appreciated the help & cooperation received in achieving the great work done during the year and congratulated all the members for working together to achieve the goals set at the start of her year as President. Lisa said that there were a lot of good things done during the year including hosting our great exchange student from Denmark Ellen Andersen. Lisa stated that the work done during the year will be presented in a report at a later meeting. Lisa thanked Assistant Governor Austen Burleigh and his wife for the support given to the Essendon Rotary Club. Assistant Governor Austen Burleigh spoke next, Austin addressed the members as Assistant Governor for the last time, congratulated the club members for turning the club around being a medium size club. He reminded the members that the Rotary Club of Essendon was the 5 th oldest club in Victoria and the 8 th oldest in Australia completing 80 years. Assistant Governor spoke of the good work done all round including locally, overseas, student exchange, the science student program, Police mentoring, upgrading the website, work done with DIK to mention a few. Austin also thanked Grant Sheldon for the good work done on the website. Austin Burleigh said that the Rotary club of Melbourne was a proud sponsor of the Essendon Rotary Club.

2 Peter Halaseh was handed the reins by outgoing President Lisa and the duties and obligations of a President was read out to the incoming President Peter. Peter spoke about what is expected of Rotary & Rotary International and quoted Mother Theresa who said To be nobody to anybody is one of the greatest deceases in the world Rotary is a measure of ones worth and what we give away during our lifetime and that is what Rotary is all about, ones worth is not measured by the wealth one accumulates he said. Peter further stated that we must speak words of compassion and act on them Peter said that during his year of service to the community through Rotary he intends to get some speakers on health issues and speakers on life after retirement, he further stated that he wished to grow the club membership ideally with younger members, Peter reminded the members that he is one of the younger Presidents to take on the role. Peter also spoke about the website that is now active which he said will be very useful to attract new recruits to the club. Peter spoke of the projects that he would like the club to continue with that the club had success in the past, he spoke about building strong alliances with the MVCC as well as local businesses and he said that he had visited some local businesses including Mercedes Benz and they were surprised at the work done by the Rotary clubs. Peter also wanted to present the Essendon Rotary Club on radio and he stated that the appearance of the club entrance needs improvement and advised of the impending decision to move from the present location after due consideration and discussion with members. Peter then introduced the new board of directors to the members present. Notes from Lisa Thanks to the many club members and friends who came to support the major Rotary Club of Essendon Community Service Project of this year. There were over 100 people in attendance to witness the Mayor, Narelle Sharpe officially open our new Shed with the Presidents of the three Rotary Clubs involved Essendon, Essendon Nth and Strathmore doing the honours by not cutting a ribbon, but most appropriately sawing through the plank of wood.

3 We had a perfect day to conduct the opening of The Shed, and all who were there agreed that it will be a fabulous community hub for the local neighbourhood. It is in an idyllic location and there were plenty of locals signing up to attend the sessions when they start. There were many people who are very enthused about learning new skills, making new friends and staying healthy. There certainly was a buzz in the air and it wasn t just the sausages sizzling on our own club BBQ trailer which was there proudly on display. This Shed will be a permanent example of the dedication of members and the commitment of the club to serve our local community, as men and women, young and old will use the Shed for years to come. I will be proud to show it off to others and say this is what we have achieved this year. We still need plenty of support for fitting out the shed with appropriate tools and equipment so please contact Alistair Fraser or Lisa Lowcock if you have anything which may be of use for the Shed. First up; we really need a fridge and a microwave for the shed kitchen so if anyone has a spare in good condition or preferably if anyone can access a new item as a donation please let us know. 5 BELOW IS A MESSAGE ABOUT OUR DISTRICT 9800 INTERNATIONAL EXPO Our 2015 Rotary International Expo will be held in Shed A the Queen Victoria Market on Sunday 12th July. Clubs from our District and others in Southern Region have pulled together to present this Expo of high impact, sustainable projects to showcase to the public and to share with District International Directors, incoming Directors and interested new members. A key objective this year is to use this wonderful venue to enable us to increase public awareness about Rotary. We will keep you updated with the Rotary International Expo Facebook page This is a day to share Rotary with families and friends with a social conscience and a love for the community. There are, of course, lots of shopping opportunities, fresh fruit and vegies, market specials, plus the opportunity to gather with your friends, listen to jazz and Timorese musicians, meet our District Leadership Team, and gain insights from hardworking and inspirational project teams who help poor communities in far flung places. You can also help the people of Vanuatu and Nepal by donating to projects helping to rebuild shattered lives. Mick was a member of the Rotary Club of Essendon from 1997 to He made a valuable contribution to our club during that time and will be fondly remembered by all members of that time. Mick passed away at Inala Retirement Village in Blackburn South after two bouts of pneumonia. He was 83 years of age. The funeral is likely to occur next week at St. Andrews Uniting Church, Whitehorse Road in Box Hill. Please keep a look out in the newspapers or feel free to contact Tim Anderson for details of the funeral over the next few days. We wish his family and friends our sincere sympathy at this sad time.
