1 The Communiqué Newsletter of the GFWC of Holden Beach P. O. Box 902, Supply, NC Volume 11, Issue 3, March 12, 2016 Karen Throckmorton, President, Jean Newland, Editor, Each one of us can make a difference. Together we make change. Barbara Mikulski February was Heart Month and red was the color we wore as a reminder. Many, many thanks to the Gala Committee for the refreshments and the Gala Updates at the meeting.
2 The Gala is a lot of work and it is successful because we work together. We are a month and a half away so it s the final stretch. The lunch has been selected and we will have a few new items this year. The decorations crew has created a theme that is sure to set the mood and remind us that spring has sprung! The Art Committee will provide the program for our monthly meeting so you will get a glimpse of the Gala decorations on March 15 th. The sponsorships are coming in as well as are silent auction items. We will have several trips and overnight stays, including another African Safari. The last African Safari went very well; reviews from 4 of the Safari travelers from the last trip are excellent. We will begin to post the auction items on our website; and Facebook. If you have Facebook, please feel free to share with your friends. Also, we will go over some of the items at the March meeting. Remember, the Gala is an open event. If someone you know needs an invitation or assistance in reserving seats with friends or a full table, please have them contact Judy Brock or Linda Dieudonne. Together we can make change and all are welcome to join us raise money for two very worthy organizations in our County: Hope Harbor Home and Providence Home. Warmest Regards Karen

It was the model for the nationwide GFWC in In 1889 Mrs. Croly organized a conference in New York that brought together delegates from 61 women's clubs. The women formed a permanent organization in 1890 with Ella Dietz Clymer presiding. In 1901 it was granted a charter by Congress. "We look for unity, but unity in diversity; we hope that you will enrich us by your varied experiences, and let us pledge ourselves to work for a common cause, the cause of united womanhood throughout the world." -Sorosis President Ella Dietz Clymer, Unity in Diversity, the GFWC motto, came directly from her words.
