Welcome/Introductions Meeting called to order by Angie Bailey. HSIDN Steering Committee members were welcomed, everyone introduced themselves. II. Approval of Minutes/Additions to Agenda Minutes from January 4, 2018 meeting approved with no changes. There were no additions to the agenda. III. Old Business a. New HSIDN Information Cards & Magnets are still available. The cards were available for pick up at the meeting. Please contact Greg if you would like additional cards or magnets to promote the HSIDN website. IV. Built Environment Efforts a. Bike Rack Placement Most bike racks have been given out for placement. SIH is keeping a list. A discussion was held regarding signage needed. Once the bike racks are placed, please take pictures. Jackson County Health Department s bike racks have been placed (DeSoto, Murphysboro, City of Carbondale, WDBX in Carbondale) with a few left for other small communities. Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department s bike racks have been dispersed and to date, they are not sure if all have been installed. Egyptian Health Department reported that their bike racks have not been placed yet, but plan placement in Spring.
2 b. Start! Walking Path signs Regarding using the green START! logo, Greg is currently in communication with the American Heart Association Communications Director who has reached out their development team for guidance on branding. Please continue to make a list of the signs you need in your area that either need replaced or for new paths. Greg has not heard back on this since the last meeting. One of Michelle s interns to possibly help over the summer to conduct an assessment of the signs to determine if they are in good order or if they need replaced. We will look into re-branding the signs with Working Together to Create a Healthier Southern Illinois, along with the HSIDN logo and website. We will also check to see if we can have an area at the bottom for a decal with walking path, bike rack, etc. Angie Bailey and Sarah O Dell from SIH will check with Silkworm on signage creation. c. Built Environment Workshop & Showcase - Angie and Michelle had been working on this. Currently on hold. Will revisit the budget for this in the future. A lot of planning is already done. Michelle mentioned that the City planners in Carbondale are planning a Bike to Work event and they have achieved a bike friendly designation. They are willing and available to assist other communities. If interested, contact Michelle. SIU Touch of Nature continues to work on efforts to build a bike park and mountain bike trails. V. Behavioral Health Efforts a. IL Prescription Drug Monitoring project Liz Toomey gave a brief update. Two pharmacists are being hired through SIU SOM CRHSSD for PMP with compliance, education and responsible prescribing practices as a focus. The local health departments will use their funds to address local needs. b. Opioid Prescriber Training Grant Continuing to work with SIU SOM to plan the training. Will hold short talks via the web. SIH hospitals may be set-up as viewing areas as well as additional locations. Additional details to follow. Locations to be chosen in March. c. IDHS DASA SAMSHA Grant Angie Bailey - The ED Warm Handoff process to substance abuse treatment kicked off on January 4, Gateway will have hours in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale s ED. Will be expanding to Herrin Hospital and St. Joseph Memorial Hospital. One person with opioid use disorder (OUD) was served at MHC in January and seven were served in February. Referrals were also given to patients for alcohol related issues. We believe the numbers will increase when moved to the other sites. Planning additional MAT training for those healthcare providers that had been interested to discuss barriers, how MAT is provided in their offices, etc. Collaborating with the SIH EMS staff to offer training on Narcan to medical first responders. EMS staff will conduct training. Dates have not yet been set. Collaborated with SPARC to host a Stop the Bleed/Naloxone training on February 20, There were 32 members of law enforcement officers trained from 16 different departments. Planning a physician training for May 16 for SIH physicians at Walker s Bluff in the evening. The date was just confirmed today. Agenda will include the set-up of info tables
3 before and after the event, a panel discussion, keynote speaker and local MD perspective. If you have suggestions for panel members or vendor tables, call Angie. Michelle suggested youth and adult MHFA. Angie s ideas thus far included April Scales, EHD on Naloxone, Bill McCreery to tell about the PMP, and local substance abuse treatment providers. Candice Watson will be helping to coordinate. SIH/SIU Public Policy Institute to be held on May 18 th at SIU School of Law. There will be a Speaker Meet and Greet on May17. Topic is opioids. It will be an all day event with big name speakers. Watch for additional details. Via , Lizz Cooley from the Egyptian Health Department reported that they have continued trainings - currently trained more than 400 individuals, recently hired a 2nd educator for lower 16 counties, will be interviewing for full-time educator for the "northern" counties next week, have a coordination call scheduled for March 7 with DHS and IDPH, and continue promotion of the Opioid Helpline and other DHS opioid communication campaigns. d. Others: Franklin County Substance Abuse Task Force meeting will be on March 14 th at 9 am at Franklin Hospital to plan a town hall similar to the ones previously done in Williamson and Jackson counties. Natalie shared that S7HD is working with APAC (Alexander Pulaski Action Coalition) to address opioids. They had two speakers from the law enforcement sector in their January meeting. They are working to collect better data related to the issue. Liz shared that the Southern Illinois Opioid Advisory Team is working to plan another regional meeting. Liz Toomey with ideas. Michelle mentioned a recent meeting with the Illinois Lt. Governor and the need to come up with a list of priorities and highlights regarding the needs in southern Illinois that could be shared with our legislative leaders. This is something the Southern Illinois Advisory Team is working on. Via , Lizz Cooley from EHD reported that there will be a Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) community training on March 13th in Harrisburg (go to for a flyer), Galatia school CATCH training on May 29 th with Darlene & Phyllis, and Gallatin County Law Enforcement training, TBD. Additionally, Lizz reported the following regarding National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day. The EHD coalition is partnering with Project Connect 2.0 for awareness activities in the month of May. One of those will be the annual Rails to Trails event (flyer on way, waiting for online registration link) with Green T-shirts, community education efforts, integration of physical and behavioral health, and an event page on Facebook. VI. Diabetes (DTRT) Related Updates a. IDPH CDASH (Chronic Disease and School Health) grant Angie Bailey EHD, S7HD and SIH are continuing to work on vending efforts. The grant has funds to assist with
4 advertising of the CDSMP/DSMP classes. Contact Angie Bailey to place ads. They will need the IDPH tagline. CDSMP/DSMP promotional display racks were shared. Randolph County and EHD are still in need of approximately 15 each. S7HD, FW Bi-Co HD, Perry Co HD and JCHD were all provided with 15 promotional displays for CDSMP/DSMP brochures. Staff will have them placed throughout the community. Angie shared that IDPH would like us to complete the CDC worksite scorecard. It takes approximately minutes. Angie will all everyone more information. Just wanted to let everyone know this would be coming out. Janae Price, IDPH/CDC is the contact person. Continuing to work to improve vending. Pepsi will be placing green on coils to indicate healthy choices as designated by certain criteria. IDPH is working with ISBE on a grant due March 5. The grant is focused on improving nutrition and physical activity in schools. Angie had promoted the efforts of the ICHC to them and linked with Jeff and also shared with IDPH the importance of having ISBE remind schools of the importance of their wellness plans and polices. Natalie asked if advertising dollars from the IDPH CDASH grant could be used for Diabetes Alert Day. Angie thought they probably could as long as they had the tagline along with IDPH approval. Michelle mentioned that for their promotion of the Tips from Former Smokers media advertising efforts/outreach, that they are working with KFVS12 to utilize Geotagging to target certain populations with the media. b. CDSMP/DSMP Workshops Greg Smith requested to be provided with information regarding any planned CDSMP and DSMP workshops as soon as possible to get the workshop flyers on the calendar and online registration set up. The CDSMP/DSMP Leader Training on February 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 in Herrin went well. Fifteen new leaders were trained. If you have a class coming up, please send details along with the information on how to register and he will develop the flyers, get the information on the websites, etc. c. DTRT Planning Greg Smith The Kidney Mobile will be making a swing through southern Illinois the week of August A handout with a map was provided to all of those in attendance ( _2018.pdf). The Kidney Foundation will be working with each coalition and on a flyer with all of the dates. Greg will get the information updated on the HSIDN website. All HSIDN coalitions are welcome to contribute to the planning for Camp BETA It will be held September 22 and 23, We are looking for volunteers of all types but especially nurses and dietitians. Contact Angie Bailey regarding attending planning committee meetings and to be added to the planning team. Greg will upload volunteer forms to the HSIDN website and add additional information and the flyer and then send the link out to everyone so that we can start promoting. Janet Morrison needs to be added to the planning committee. Natalie provided an update on the pilot to educate school nurses through the AADE website/members. AADE is very excited about the pilot. 15 people took advantage of the opportunity, 11 school nurses and 4 nurses from S7HD. They are willing offer the memberships/ceu s for $99 per person if others are interested. Natalie mentioned that there have been issues such as problems with log-ins, the CEU opportunities being too detailed and focused on medications, etc. She will be speaking with AADE about the issues/concerns and will then get back to the HSIDN. Via , Lizz Cooley reported on the upcoming CE workshop "Diabetes Management; Type 1 vs Type 2" (go to for a flyer) next Tuesday, March 6 at SIC in
5 Harrisburg from 5pm to 8pm. Also, the EHD DTRT has a Diabetes Support Group meeting in Harrisburg every month on the 4 th Thursday from 6pm 7pm (go to for a flyer). The DTRT will host Diabetes Alert Day on Tuesday March 27 with free screenings at three community locations and employee screenings at EHD Eldorado and Carmi locations. VII. Illinois CATCH on to Health Consortium a. Efforts related to social and emotional learning and suicide prevention continue. This work is much needed. Youth Mental Health First Aid classes are being planned as well as SOS (Signs of Suicide) trainings for school staff and interested families/parents/community members. Liz Toomey reported that there were no additional updates from Jeff. He is currently in Washington, DC. Michelle suggested that due to the issues with all of the school shootings lately that the ICHC may want to looking into providing resources such as the Sandy Hook curriculum. Michelle will follow-up with Jeff. Angie mentioned that this FY SIU is asking for more detail for the quarterly budget narrative. She had created a worksheet for Jeff to review and send out to everyone. More information to follow. Lizz reported EHD has new SEL school involvement - starting lessons in Grayville Schools this month. Phyllis attending Early Childhood Expo this Saturday March SIC, Teddy Bear Fair March HMC, and Kid's SIC on April 17. VIII. Emergency Preparedness a. SPARC SIH provided a grant to SPARC to offer education and Narcan kits to law enforcement. The first training was held on February 20, 2018, see above. A communitywide Stop the Bleed initiative will be coordinated by SPARC for March 31 - National Stop the Bleed Day. They are also looking at planning additional community trainings the week of May National EMS Week. The trainings will be free with Stop the Bleed kits as door prizes, along with information on how to order if you did not win one. EHD worksite wellness committee plan to have Allan Ninness present on March 21st for the monthly lunch and learn series. IX. New Business - October 5 6, 2018, Fly-In event with over 500 planes at SI Airport in Carbondale Southern IL Heart Walk October 6, 2018 at Walker s Bluff, Carterville, IL. - Barb brought up concerns regarding the cost of CPR and access to mannequins. She is looking into other options than the $75 per person fee that Rend Lake College is charging. SIH considering starting own classes for more affordable option. Jo Sanders has been involved in these conversations. We will check with her for more information. We will also ask Jo to whom we gave the SIH Community Benefits dummies. Angie mentioned the new state requirement for proof of CPR training before you can graduate high school. The American Heart Association is working to fundraise for school kit for CPR training. Leah Bahr is the contact. Funds have been raised thus far through kit sponsorship for Carbondale, Marion, Herrin, Carbondale, and Harrisburg schools.
6 X. Updates and Announcements Coalitions a. Overall Coalition Updates SIU SOM CRHSSD Liz shared a handout on Student Rural Health Career Forum to be held Saturday, March 24 th from 11 am 12:30 pm at SIU Student Center. (Go to for the flyer) For more information contact the Illinois Rural Health Association at Southern Illinois Healthcare Angie shared that the medication disposal units will begin collecting items at the three SIH hospitals and the SIH Cancer Institute on March 5, They will each have specific hours in which they will be open. The promotional materials are at the printer right now. Angie will distribute to all once they are ready. Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department Carrie Eldridge PYD is planning Family Vacation Nights. They will be held at the Herrin Library (April 26 th from 5 7 pm) and West Frankfort Library (July 26 th ). The next Diabetes Support Group meeting will be held at Franklin Hospital on March 28 th from 1:30 3 pm. The speaker will be from Franklin County EMA (Emergency Management Agency). Senior Fun Fest is being planned by the Healthy Seniors Action Team. It will be held on May 23 rd at 9 am at the Williamson County Pavilion. March 14 th the new County Health Rankings will be coming out. Jackson County Health Department Michelle McLernon DTRT Diabetes CEU training for school health educators and nurses went very well. Approximately 50 people were in attendance. CDSMP workshops are going on right now. The 15 year anniversary celebration of the coalition will be happening on March 22 nd. Egyptian Health Department Lizz Cooley via SICAN promotion, colorectal awareness month and FIT testing kick-off this month. Substance Abuse Action Team meeting on March 14th; discussion will center around new goals and direction. Involvement with Seth Knopp, National Guard/ISP substance abuse prevention taskforce. SAMSHA National Prevention Week activities in May. Supporting implementation of DHS opioid communication campaign. Promotion of DEA Drug Take Back Day April 28 th. Randolph County Health Department N/A Perry County Health Department Brittany Numi Planning upcoming CDSMP/DSMP classes. Barb Stevenson, CDSMP and DSMP going on. Good support from MBH. Diabetes Alert Day working with Janet at PCH. Kidney mobile to provide flyers. Southern 7 Health Department Natalie Sawyer APAC is planning a parent conference for the summer. DSMP is being offered at a Senior Center. A Parenting Extravaganza is being planned for October. The last HS7 Coalition meeting in January was well attended with 29 people.
