This will allow interested Chapter members to prepare for the CEM exam and take the exam locally (on Friday) during the training week. Our end of the year celebration will be held during December, at lunch time, and we hope to line up the students at UT to give a presentation once again. Details will follow shortly. 2 Page 2 August Presentation Air Movement for Efficient Thermal Comfort Come join us in San Antonio for a presentation by Ms. Meagan Donnelly of Big Ass Fans. Ms. Meagan Donnelly will make a presentation that provides a 1 Learning Unit hour equivalent for the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System. Ms. Donnelly will describe the primary factors affecting human thermal comfort from ANSI/ASHRAE Standard Participants will also understand how increased air movement can contribute to thermal comfort, the potential cooling energy savings possible from increased air movement, and how destratification using high-volume, lowspeed ceiling fans can provide winter comfort with substantial heating savings without drafts. Meagan Donnelly Architect Engineer Specialist Big Ass Fans, Inc August Speaker Meagan started with Big Ass Fans last June of 2012 as a sales coordinator, where she learned all aspects of the company. Next she learned about the company s culture, how to make quotes, process orders and so on. Having quickly master those skill sets, she was then moved up to Industrial Market Specialist - which was a more hands on environment dealing with end user customers who wanted to purchase fans on the spot. In late May of this year, Meagan was promoted to Architect Engineer Specialist which required a move from corporate headquarters in Lexington, KY to Austin, TX in order to cover the south region. In this position, Ms. Donnally works architects and engineers in helping to educate them on the benefits of Big Ass Fans in new construction projects. Can t Make The Meeting? Thank you to Austin Energy s Dennis Lilley and Wayne McKinzey for your presentation and tour!! ATTENDING WEEC? "Hello AEE friends - I'd like to encourage everyone who is attending the WEEC to come out to our CWEEL events on Thursday, Sept. 26. We will have a free breakfast from 7:30-9:30 AM where Nancy Sutley, Chair, White House Council of Environmental Quality, will be speaking on "Energy Policy: Challenges and Opportunities" (please register in advance at WEEC site under Networking Events). We will also be hosting our CWEEL Reception from 4:00-6:00 PM where you can enjoy cocktails, appetizers and, of course, sparkling conversation. Attendance to the reception is free for CWEEL members or a fee of $30 for non-members, making it a great time to update your CWEEL membership! 4 Page 4 AEE Foundation 2013 Scholarship Recipients The Austin-San Antonio Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers is proud to report that two of the 53 awards given world-wide went right here to students in Austin! Chapter Scholar Committee Chairman Norman Muraya wrote Board of Directors recently Congrats to our club, we received the 5th highest scholarship award as well as another AEE award. Special thanks to Frank (Richards) and Cliff Finley.. Konstantin Lobodovsky: $1,000 Collen Dawes University of Texas at Austin AEE: $500 Juan Rodriquez University of Texas at Austin EEBA Houses That Work Program The Energy and Environment Building Alliance (EEBA) Houses That Work program is coming to San Marcos on August 28 th at the Embassy Suites San Marcos. Sessions will consist of two half-day trainings for builders, contractors, realtors and all other building professionals, supported by the Department of Energy s Building America Program. These sessions offer continuing education credits for NAHB, AIA, AIBD, BPI, RESNET, USGBC/GBCI. The trainings will be presented by Gord Cooke, one of North America s leading building science experts and trainers. At the Door Registration welcomed.
