1 1 American Culinar y Federation Harrisburg Chapter- PA 181 MISE EN PLACE January 2010 Hello Chefs, Students, and Friends: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 2010 We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting for January. This will be our regular meeting and we are honored to have Sysco Central Pennsylvania host our monthly meeting again. Thank you to Brian & John Gross and all their staff from John Gross and Company for providing a delicious meal and hosting our annual Christmas Party. Great job and deepest appreciate for your continued support to our chapter. The Steering committee is working hard to finalize Northeast Regional Conference with the National Office of the ACF. I hope by the January meeting we will be able to present to you a more finalized schedule for the general conference. And to be able to share with you the Pastry Track and Student Track event that will be part of the conference. We are continually asking for donation for our Silent Auction and if you have something you would like to donate please contact Ed & Barb Byrem and they would be happy to accept the donations. The ACF Harrisburg Chapter Award Recipients for 2009 are: Chef of the Year: Chef John Reis- Harrisburg Hilton and Towers Pastry Chef of the Year: Chef Cher Harris CEPC- Hotel Hershey Chef Professionalism Award: Chef Charlie Gipe CEC, AAC- Hershey Entertainment Complex Chef Educator of the Year: Chef Brian D. Peffley CEPC, CCE- Lebanon County CTC Associate of the Year: John Gross and Company At the December meeting the awards committee presented a ballot with the suggestion of two viable candidates for each award plus a spot for a write in candidate for each category. This is the new process of our chapter awards which will align our chapter with the ACF National Guidelines and we will start to rewrite our chapter bylaws to address these changes. Thank you to the Awards Committee which included: Chef Tom Long CEC, AAC, Chef Tim Harris, & Sous Chef Gregory C Von Uebbing for all the time an effort that went into this process. Congratulations to this years recipients of these chapter awards. New update: By the next meeting we hope to have our new chapter website up and running we were very fortunate to have Chef Tracie Gotshall, Pastry Arts Instructor of Lancaster CTC, Mt Joy Campus, work with her school's web design class and create a new website for Next Meeting: Monday: January 18th, 2010 SYSCO Central PA 3905 Corey Road Harrisburg, PA :00 PM: General Meeting 5:00PM: Steering Committee our chapter. She presented 4 website versions at last month s meeting and each member who attended the December meeting was given the opportunity to voice their preference and make suggestions to be implemented into the new website. The Ronald McDonald house is for family members that have family at the Hershey medical center. The Giant Center is taking care of January. Channels: Chairperson: OPEN Co-Chairperson: John Reis Chef s on Parade : The dinner was May 31st, 2009 from the Harrisburg Hilton. The event raised a $44, 857 net profit a 17.3% increase from Thank you all for your help. The students learn the basics during the 12 week program. Working on new items for SkillsUSA: Cher Harris, Charlie Gipe, & Tim Harris 9 Students from Lebanon CTC went to nationals, Naomi Bechtel placed 9th in pastry arts Molly Riothermel placed 15th in Culinary Arts and 21st in Open/Closing team. Congratulations to all. Pennsylvania State Competition is April 15, Lebanon County CTC Tour De Cure: Plans for the 2010 event will be announced at future date Northeast Regional Conference: pa 181 will be hosting the 2010 Northeast Regional Conference at the Hershey lodge and Convention Center. The dates are March13th, 14th, and 15th Committee meetings to plan for the 2010 Northeast regional conference will be held at 5:00 before every scheduled monthly meeting. New business: Chef Bob Roebuck was recognized as Chef of the Year form last year. Chef Brian Peffley presented him with a plaque and award medallion. Brian showed the chapter the Chef Jackets, t-shirts, golf shirts and ball caps that will be available for NERC. These will be a limited Edition. The company New Chef handles the orders and inventories. More information to follow. The chapter voted and mailed the ballot to nationals for Denise Schaefer,CEC,CCE,AAC for 2010 American Culinary Federation Hermann G. Rusch Chef s Achievement Award Northeast Region Charlie recommended and the chapter voted on the return of the 2009 officers to serve the chapter in 2010 Chapter members will receive a 15% discount from for Serve Safe certification January 17, 2010 Chocolate The Hershey Lodge and Conference Center.
