Ed Columbine Poudre Home Care Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2-3 p.m., Cost: $5 Thriving with Breast Cancer: General Wellness and Lymphedema Education # This class will focus on eduation to address common side effects that persist after or during breat cnacer treatments such as: decreased strength/endurance, fatigue, lymphedema, radiation fibrosis and shoulder dysfunction. This class is taught by Michelle Bardina, Physical Therapist from UCHealth. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 5-6 p.m., Cost $10 The role of stereotactic radiotherapy in the future of cancer therapy # Dr. Joshua H. Petit, a radiation oncologist with Poudre Valley Hospital will talk about modern radiation treatment machines that deliver highly focused and individualized cancer treatments. You ll learn about the indications for this treatment - who it best helps - and the expected success rates and side effects associated with stereotactic radiotherapy. This advancements in the treatment of cancer program is sponsored by UCHealth. Thursday, Nov. 9, 6-7:30 p.m., Cost $5 MEMORY & BRAIN HEALTH Brain and Balance (*) Use your head while staying on your feet. Fun brain games and functional balance exercises are brought together to offer support, laughter and results during these 4-week sessions by Diane Horak, Columbine Health System Thursday, Aug , 1:30-2 p.m., Cost $11.25 # (3 weeks) Thursdays, Sept. 7-28, 1:30-2 p.m., Cost $15 # Thursdays, Oct. 5-26, 1:30-2 p.m., Cost $15 # Thursdays, Nov 2-30, 1:30-2 p.m., Cost $15 # (no class on 11/23)

2 Happy hand dancing and cognitive walking (*) This session is about movement, laughing and making our brains work a little by combing all three. Jill Taylor with UCHealth Aspen Club will teach happy hand dances, a few laughter exercises and brain games that stimulate the mind will walking. Friday, August 18, 2-3:30 p.m., Cost $5 # Friday, Dec. 1, 2-3:30 p.m., Cost $5 #TBD Communication effectiveness and word finding strategies # It is normal to have word finding difficulties as we age. Different causes of word finding difficulties can result from strokes, other medical complications leading to decreased mental processing, difficulty retrieving the words or just having a harder time retrieving the words that are on the tip-of-your tongue. Come learn about compensatory strategies you can practice on a daily basis to keep you mind sharp and improve your communication abilities. This class is taught by Danielle Chiasson, Speech Therapist from UCHealth. Thursday, Nov. 16, 9-10 a.m., Cost $10. MINDFULNESS, MEDITATION & HOLISTIC OPPORTUNITIES The drumming circle experience # Drumming circles are shamanic in origin and have been used by indigenous people since recorded history. They are described as a personal, social and spiritual gathering meant to celebrate a connection to Earth and one another. Participants will enjoy a facilitated drumming circle to enhance personal and spiritual growth and empowerment. Scott Tate, Licensed Psychotherapist will lead you on this journey. Saturday, August 19, 9:30-11:30 a.m., Cost $12 Healing Through Meditation and Spiritual Wisdom (*) Age gracefully by bringing strength to midlife joys and challenges through simple yoga breathing, visualization, positive affirmations and meditation. These techniques help with stress, fatigue, lack of sleep, high blood pressure and emotional distress. This 4-week session is led by Swamijii Dharmananda. 3 Guided meditation with Larry # (*) Meditation with visualization is called guided meditation. Larry Braun, certified meditation practitioner will lead this 6-week class that should leave you feeling energized and relaxed. Saturday, Nov. 18, 9-11:30 a.m., Cost $15 CHRONIC CONDITIONS Living well with chronic disease # (*) Do you have arthritis, heart disease, lung disease or other health problems? This 6-week program may help you manage your health by giving you the confidence and tools to communicate efficiently with doctors, get more exercise and have less pain and more energy. The Living a Healthy Life resource book included. Thursdays, July 20 August 24, 1:30 4:00pm, no charge Bone Health for Osteoporosis # Basic overview regarding osteoporosis education, exercise, and prevention. By Front Range Therapy. 4 PWR Level 1 Parkinson s Wellness Recovery # (*) Parkinson s Wellness Recovery is an 8-week exercise program developed by Dr. Beck Farley for people with a diagnosis of Parkinson s disease. Classes are designed to improve balance, walking and slow the progression of the disease. The Level 1 class is designed for persons who have trouble with balance and walking in the home. This 8-week class is taught by UCHealth neurologic physical therapists. Tuesdays, Sept. 5-Oct. 24, 3-4 p.m., Cost $40 Enhance Wellness class series # (*) This 10-week class series has topics such as mindful eating, mind-body connection, stress, health self- management, sleep, exercise, and how to evaluate what you find on-line and more. Wednesdays, Sept. 6- Nov. 8, 9:30-10:30 a.m., Foothills Activity Center Community Room, Cost $25 TENS Use for Pain Management # This class will allow you to learn more about the benefits of TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation), an alternative for pain control. This class will define the acronym TENS, give a brief explanation of the theories behind how TENS works, describe different modes, instruct how to correctly place electrodes for different location of pain, educate on the best time to use TENS and identify conditions that are contraindicated for use of TENS. This class is taught by Katie Federer, Physical Therapist from UCHealth Outpatient Rehab. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 9-10 a.m., Cost $10 Living well with pain (*) Learn tools to help manage pain from issues such as fibromyalgia, headache, lower back and arthritis. Studies have shown that people that take this 6 week, 2.5 hours per week program on average, have less pain, less dependence on others and are more involved in everyday activities. Share and learn from others that experience chronic pain. Wednesdays, Sept. 27 Nov. 1, 1-3:30 p.m. NUTRITION Drug and Food Interactions # Foods you eat and drink may be inhibiting th absorption of your medication or they could increase the side effects. Thursdays, Oct. 26, 6:00-7:00 p.m., Cost: $5 Spice up your holiday with brain healthy seasonings # Many of the flavorings you add to your favorite holiday dishes may even be good for brain health. Learn about cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and other spices that may sharpen memory, reduce stress and improve sleep. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2:00 3:00 p.m., Cost $5 EXERCISE & FITNESS Sign your grandkids up for yoga intro for kids (ages 3-6) # Yoga comes to life in this fun and creative class designed to stimulate a young child s growing curiosity. Playful yoga poses, animated breathing exercises and imaginative relaxation techniques, teach 3, 4 and 5-year olds about their budding bodies. The class will enhance motor development, balance, and coordination and play skills. This class is led by a Physical Therapist from UC Health Outpatient Services Physical Therapist. Wednesday, July 19, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Cost: $5.00 Location: Foothills Activity Center Maintain Mobility # Discuss the importance of strength, balance, fitness and home safety. Learn a self-check system and discuss programs to help stay in the home safely. By Front Range Therapy Tuesday, August 15, noon-1 p.m., cost $5 Couch to 5K # Get in shape with an UCHealth Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist by your side. This fun 5- week class will prepare you to safely progress to a level where you can participant in the CSU Homecoming 5K on October 14 th. 6 Get a Grasp on Your Grip # (*) This is an upper extremity exercise class on how to prevent hand injuries and improve your strength. This class will focus on grip strength, joint protection, home program, adaptive equipment training and hand pain control. This class is taught by Patricia Kiyper, OTR/L, from Poudre Valley Hospital Outpatient Rehab, UCHealth. She has over 20 years of experience in hand therapy and geriatrics.
