Scott Tate, licensed psychotherapist, will discuss challenges faced in the second half of life, as described by Carl Jung and the relevancy of shamanic practice in addressing these issues. Saturday, August 13, 9:00-11:30 a.m. DIABETIC COOKING FOR ONE OR TWO # Katharine Kissane, MS, RD, with UCHealth Diabetes Services will discuss how to prepare healthy, diabetes-friendly meals for one or two people. If you have diabetes, having extra food around may temp you to overeat, hinder weight loss efforts and impact blood glucose control. Learn helpful tips, tricks and recipes to make cooking healthy, nutritious, cost-effective and easy. Wednesday, August 17, 9:30-11:00 a.m. HOW TO IMPROVE MEMORY # This class will review strategies for improving your memory and provide activities to improve functional memory at home and at work. This class is led by Nancy Malley, speech therapist with PVH Outpatient Rehabilitation Services Saturday, August 13, 9:00-11:30 a.m. September 2016 BOOMER BOOT CAMP # Get your blood flowing with a full body workout geared to increase strength and stamina. This fourweek Boot camp is designed with an injury-prevention focus, to help you get in great shape, increase energy and have fun. No class on September 5. Mondays and Wednesdays, September 7 28, 8:00-8:50 a.m. Cost $22. CARDIO, CORE AND MORE # This fun class blends cardio and strength exercises to create a stronger, healthier you, while increasing flexibility, balance and stamina. This class targets the entire body and is perfect for those who are looking to improve overall body condition! No class on September 5. Mondays and Wednesdays, September 7-28, 9:00-9:50 a.m. Cost $22.
2 CONVERSATION PROJECT # More than 9 of 10 people feel it is important to talk about end-of-life issues, however, less than 3 of 10 have done so. Journalist, Ellen Goodman, developed a very impactful program to help people get this very important conversation started before a health crisis or emergency Wednesday September 7, 1:30-3:00 p.m. PWR LEVEL 1 PARKINSON S WELLNESS RECOVERY # Parkinson s Wellness Recovery (PWR) is an exercise program developed by Dr. Beck Farley for people with a diagnosis of Parkinson s disease, to improve balance and walking, and slow the progression of the disease. The Level 1 class is designed for persons who have trouble with balance and walking in the home. The 8 week class is taught by UCH neurologic physical therapists. Enrollment limited to 8 persons. Wednesday s, September 7 to October 26, 1:00 2:00 pm Cost: $40 for 8 sessions GOLF FITNESS ASSESSMENTS call for an appointment time Designed to help improve your overall golf game by assessing strength and flexibility components specific to the sport. Based on the results, specialists from UC Health Poudre Valley Med Fitness will suggest exercises to help you become a stronger golfer. Bring an iron and a driver. Assessments take 30 minutes. Thursdays, August 11, September 8, October 13 and November 10, 8:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. Cost: $20 Location: Foothills Activity Center inside Foothills Mall ENHANCE WELLNESS CLASS SERIES # This 10-week program include topics on mindful eating, mind-body connection, stress, health management, sleep, exercise, and how to evaluate what you find online. Thursdays, September 8 November 10, 10:00-11:00 a.m. Cost: $25 HEALING THROUGH MEDITATION AND SPIRITUAL WISDOM Part I # Age gracefully by bringing strength to midlife joys and challenges. Simple yoga breathing, visualization, positive affirmations and meditation for stress relief, fatigue, lack of sleep, high blood pressure and emotional distress will be covered, bringing peace and stability to the mind. This 4- week session is led by Swamijii Dharmananda. Fridays, September 9 30, 10:00-11:30 a.m. Cost: $40 Part II starts in October BALANCE AND FALL PREVENTION STRATEGIES # Specialists from UC Health Rehabilitation Services will discuss basic fall prevention strategies including how medication, vision and environment impact potential for falls. Class will include information on gait, balance and assistive devices. Tuesday, September 13, 2:00 3:00 p.m. Cost: Free READY, STEADY, BALANCE FALL PREVENTION FUN POSIUM # From entertaining exercise demonstrations, to informative fall prevention sessions, there is a little something for everyone at this fun event! Participants will be rated as to fall risks and staff will make suggestions based on the information obtained. Fridays, October 7 28, 10:00-11:30 a.m. Cost: $40 GET YOUR ADVANCE DIRECTIVES DONE # It s important at any age to get advanced directives completed, but especially as we get older. This class will explain living wills and medical health care directive forms and give you a chance to complete these documents. We will also discuss end of life issues and the importance of letting your loved ones know your plans. Tuesday, October 11, 9:30-11:00 a.m. IMPROVING BALANCE THROUGH EXERCISE # This class will cover balance related issues from footwear, vision, weakness, posture, home modifications and medications. This is a six week course full of helpful information and hands on exercise. Each class will be led by a specialist in the topic to be covered from University of Colorado Health. Tuesdays, October 11 November 15, 9:00 10:00 a.m. Cost: $35 for 6 classes LIVING WITH LOW SODIUM # Lower sodium food choices are a key part of a heart healthy diet and can better manage symptoms associated with congestive heart failure. Join Jenifer Bowman, MS, RD, Cardiac Dietitian with UCHealth to help get started with your low sodium diet.

This presentation will prepare you by providing an overview of changes to plans and to Medicare in general. This class is led by UCHealth Aspen Club Medicare counselors. Monday, October 17, 10:00 11:30 a.m. November 2016 BRAIN GAMES WITH RICH # Rich Shipman from the UCHealth Aspen Club will share some of his favorite brain / memory games that work many sides of the brain, plus create laughter and fun. Get ready for left/right brain activities and games that stimulate your senses while firing off those neurons. Friday, November 11, 2:00 3:00 pm A HEALTH MAINTENANCE MANUEL FOR MEN OVER 50 # Dr. Pete Smith, UCHealth Internal Medicine Practitioner will explore how men, age, 50 and beyond, can prevent age-related illnesses unique to men and manage health conditions to enhance living longer and staying stronger. Health planning, just like financial planning is critical to age well Dr. Smith will share his top men s health must-do s. Monday, November 14, 6:00 7:30 p.m.
5 BE SKI FIT! # Stuart Peterson, Physical Therapist with UCHealth, specializes in outpatient rehabilitation therapy at Poudre Valley Hospital. He also is an expert skier who knows what you need to stay strong so you can enjoy the slopes longer. This class will be a combination of lecture and exercises focused on specific strengthening needs for skiers of all ages and levels. Bring an exercise mat if you have one. Tuesday Nov. 15, 4:30-5:30 pm STAYING FIT AFTER MENOPAUSE # Sharon Petty, Doctor of Physical Therapist with UCHealth specializes in Women s Health with Outpatient Rehabilitation Services at Poudre Valley Hospital.
