It will cmbine reading f the required texts, jurnal articles and ther selected publicatins, lectures, discussin, small grup activities, student presentatins, and use f varius media t help students learn and assimilate the key principles in the described areas f instructin necessary t successfully cmplete the Masters in Cunseling prgram and practice as prfessinal mental health r schl cunselr. Curse Cntent and CACREP Standards: This cntent f the curse is designed t meet the Cuncil fr Accreditatin f Cunseling and Related Educatinal Prgrams (CACREP) standards ( detailed in Sectin III, Prfessinal Practice: Prfessinal practice, which includes practicum and internship, prvides fr the applicatin f thery and the develpment f cunseling skills under supervisin. These experiences will prvide pprtunities fr students t cunsel clients wh represent the ethnic and demgraphic diversity f their cmmunity. Under the subheading Diagnsis, the fllwing standards are described: Knwledge Knws the principles f the diagnstic prcess, including differential diagnsis, and the use f current diagnstic tls, such as the current editin f the Diagnstic and Statistical Manual f Mental Disrders (DSM). Understands the established diagnstic criteria fr mental and emtinal disrders, and describes treatment mdalities and placement criteria within the cntinuum f care. Knws the impact f c-ccurring substance use disrders n medical and psychlgical disrders. Understands the relevance and ptential biases f cmmnly used diagnstic tls with multicultural ppulatins. Skills and Practices Demnstrates apprpriate use f diagnstic tls, including the current editin f the DSM, t describe the symptms and clinical presentatin f clients with mental and emtinal impairments. Is able t cnceptualize an accurate multi-axial diagnsis f disrders presented by a client and discuss the differential diagnsis with cllabrating prfessinals. Answer the fllwing questins in a 5 t maximum10 page grup paper, 1-2 written pages per questin (Arial r Times New Rman fnt, size 11 r 12, duble spaced, standard MS Wrd dcument margins). There will be 3 persnality disrder presentatins; grup size shuld be adjusted accrdingly (i.e., 3-5/grup). This assignment will be due after we have cvered the persnality disrders in class via lecture and class presentatins. After reviewing the diagnstic criteria f the 10 persnality disrders, write a 4 t maximum 6 page paper (Arial r Times New Rman fnt, size 11 r 12, duble spaced, standard MS Wrd dcument margins) describing persnality traits f yurs that are similar t the described diagnstic criteria fr the persnality disrders.
