5 Course Information Course Description: Women's health care providers are faced with the daunting task of caring for women across their lifespan. Many obstetricians, gynecologists and other women's health specialists spend much of their time addressing primary and preventive health care concerns. In this comprehensive course, attendees will become proficient in dealing with some of the most prevalent and vexing medical issues facing women today, especially in the mid-life years. Experts will discuss pelvic floor disorders such as urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and abnormal uterine bleeding. This course will also provide valuable evidence-based information and tips on surgery for prolapse, stress urinary incontinence, operative hysteroscopy, vaginal hysterectomy and urinary tract injury prevention. In addition to pelvic floor disorders, the course also emphasizes female sexuality and the effects of aging and declining hormone levels, including the role of testosterone. Learning Objectives: Identify pelvic floor anatomy and support defects leading to disorders of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse Describe techniques used for surgical correction of stress urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, including the role of synthetic mesh Discuss the evaluation and management of abnormal uterine bleeding, including minimally invasive surgical treatment options List basic principles relating to vaginal hysterectomy and lower urinary tract injury prevention Cite efficacy of overactive bladder therapy, including pharmacology and neuromodulation. Describe classifications and treatment options for Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) Target Audience: This educational program is designed for specialists in gynecology and practitioners of women's health care: obstetricians, gynecologists, fellows, residents, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses / midwives and physical therapists. CME Accreditation Washington Hospital Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Credit Designation The Washington Hospital Center designates this educational activity for a maximum of 18 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).
