2 Quick Facts About St. Jude For 50 years, St. Jude has had a history of taking on many of the most difficult and underserved pediatric diseases. St. Jude sees on average 7,800 children a year from throughout the United States and from around the world, while many more children are seen at the six St. Jude affiliate sites. St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and from around the world. Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from individual contributors, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most saving kids regardless of their financial situation. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood survival rate from 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to more than 80 percent today. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent in the next decade. The daily operating cost for St. Jude is $1.9 million, which is primarily covered by individual contributors. St. Jude creates more clinical trials for cancer than any other children s hospital and turns laboratory discoveries into lifesaving treatments that benefit patients every day. St. Jude freely shares its groundbreaking discoveries, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists can use that knowledge to save thousands more children around the world. The result was a small reception, hosted by Lattanzio and fellow Wall Street leader Elizabeth Larson, which raised about $90,000 in its first year. The Wall Street community now raises over $2 million for St. Jude each year through its annual New York City financier s gala and its associates events in NYC, Boston, and Chicago. Proceeds from the events have supported various programs at St. Jude including gene therapy, bone marrow transplantation, immunology, infectious disease research, the brain tumor program and the Infectious Disease Research floor at the Chili s Care Center. Invest in Hope - St. Jude Children s Research Hospital In 2011, twenty of Boston s financial associates joined together to host the inaugural Boston Invest in Hope St. Jude Children s Research Hospital event. Since then Boston s financial community has hosted events attracting over 350 guests and raising more than $275,000 to date. Hosted by Boston s Wall Street Associates committee, Invest in Hope St. Jude Children s Research Hospital is a night of networking, cocktails, fun and philanthropy. The 2014 event will take place on Thursday, February 6 th at The State Room in Boston s finance district. Boston s Wall Street committee and supporters represent all facets of the capital market spectrum. They work at brokerdealers, asset managers, hedge fund and private investment management firms and range professionally as senior vice presidents, vice presidents, associates, and analysts.

3 Livvie 6 MONTHS OLD acute myeloid leukemia Livvie s STORY Three hospitals. Two-and-a-half weeks. Multiple doctors. Three different towns. Four-month-old Livvie had passed out one recent weekend gone limp, Taylor said. It was dehydration; it was acid reflux; it was a blood disorder. It was a virus that makes her bone marrow sleepy, said one doctor. It could be anything, said another. What had started to feel like a wild goose chase ended with Livvie s regular nurse practitioner back home. The last in a series of blood tests indicated what no parent wants to hear. Livvie s nurse practitioner called me over the telephone, Taylor recalls. I was at work. It was at 4:00 in the afternoon. She called and told me Livvie had leukemia. At the urging of the nurse practitioner, Livvie s parents packed up the car that very night and drove her the five hours to St. Jude Children s Research Hospital. St. Jude is the global leader in finding cures and saving children from cancer and other deadly diseases. As soon as the family arrived, things started happening fast. St. Jude doctors confirmed Livvie had acute myeloid leukemia and initiated chemotherapy right away. After weeks of uncertainty, St. Jude was offering answers and solutions. It was a relief, says Taylor. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for anything not for treatment, travel, housing or food, because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. When Taylor learned they would not be billed by St. Jude, she was shocked. She and her husband had not known how they would cover costs associated with Livvie s treatment. We didn t even have the money to get up here, says Taylor. We were thinking, if we have to live in the car, we ll live in the car. Instead, Livvie and her mom and on weekends, her dad and sister live in an apartment at Target House and ride a free shuttle to and from the hospital. It s been really, really helpful, especially with the meals being made at Target House at night, says Taylor. You don t realize how much it helps until you actually go through it. Livvie is now 6 months old. She is a smiling, happy, wide-eyed baby who loves to be tickled and is trying hard to learn to sit up. She is continuing to receive chemotherapy and soon, a blood test will determine if she needs a bone marrow transplant. Her favorite song is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. That little music box will play all day long. They do whatever they can to make her feel comfortable, and when she s comfortable, mama s comfortable. We re thankful we have St. Jude. You don t know how blessed you are until you get here.
