1 PHONE: (972) Dr. Kimberly Ann Barksdale January 9, May 11, 2017 Kimberly Ann Barksdale was the first of 3 daughters born to Allen Barksdale, Sr. and Nellie Hunt. Kim excelled at school attending Lutheran grade school and high school in Detroit, Michigan. She received her bachelor s degree from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Her goal set early in her childhood to become a doctor was realized when she matriculated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Kim moved to practice medicine in Las Cruces, New Mexico and Sherman, Texas before she settled in Allen, Texas and made it her home. Her pediatrics practice in Allen is highly regarded. Kim had a zest for life that was infectious. She loved her work, her family, snow skiing, traveling the world, shopping and healing her patients. She served on several hospital boards and pediatric organizations. Kim was a long time member of the Texas Ski Rangers and served as the executive secretary of the National Brotherhood of Skiers. In 2009, Kim was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma and began the fight of her life. Her strength and positivity throughout the years, along with the support of her friends, family and physicians were amazing. After an extensive, courageous fight, she passed away at home in the arms of family. Loved ones left to celebrate her life well-lived include her mother, Nellie Barksdale; sisters, Hazel Mitchell, Kristi Sharp and Karon Barksdale; brother, Allen, Jr.; nieces, Lorez Mitchell and Kelli Barksdale; nephews, Allen Barksdale III and wife, Danielle, Henry Barksdale and wife, Victoria, Frederick Sharp and Sterling Sharp; great-nephew, Karman; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and her Texas girls who loved her like family. She was preceded in death by her father, Allen Barksdale, Sr. Memorials

2 Dr. Barksdale saw my daughter from the time she came to America from Ethiopia at 6 months old. She was a wonderful human being and a positive role model for all young girls. She will be missed. For literally as long as I can remember, Dr. Barksdale has been a part of my life. She and Dr. Martin gave me my first shots and saw me nearly every month with a new case of strep. A tonsillectomy, kidney stones, ADHD Dr. Barksdale was there through all the challenges, health-related and otherwise. And despite how often I got sick, I never dreaded going to the doctor, because I knew Dr. Barksdale would listen, understand, and help and make me laugh and smile all the while, with frequent jokes and stories about her nephews and family. Dr. Barksdale, you always believed in me. You always supported me in all my ambitions and new experiences, always encouraged me to keep going. You were the best mentor and role model a girl could ask for. I would ve loved to be able to tell you all about my journey through medical school and starting my own practice or lab or both one day (and soaked up even more of your wisdom along the way) but I know I still will, when I see you on the other side.
