6 DAVID T. JONES, M.D. David T. Jones, M.D., is a senior associate consultant in the Department of Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Jones joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 2014 and holds the academic rank of assistant professor of neurology and radiology, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Dr. Jones earned his B.S. in chemistry with a minor in physics and B.A. in psychology with a minor in theater arts, both magna cum laude, from Rockhurst University, Kansas City, Missouri. He completed an undergraduate research fellowship at Stowers Institute for Medical Research. He earned his M.D. at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., where he also completed a medical internship and began his work on imaging brain networks at the Center for Functional and Molecular Imaging. He subsequently completed a residency in neurology, a 2-year research fellowship in neuroimaging under the mentorship of Cliff Jack, and a fellowship in behavioral neurology at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Jones clinical interests are cognitive and behavioral neurology, network-based neurodegeneration, and the application of multimodal neuroimaging with an emphasis on MRI and PET. He is the co-director of the Normal Pressure Hydrocephalous Clinic and a passionate advocate for these patients. His research focus includes developing methods to derive robust metrics of brain connectivity and evaluate their potential as biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases; applying big data analytics to multimodal neuroimaging; formulating a theoretical framework and computational tools to interpret large-scale brain dynamics; and studying the effects of therapeutic intervention on brain network organization. His research is funded by the Minnesota Partnership for Biotechnology and Medical Genomics, National Institute on Aging, and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, among others. Dr. Jones also has many active internal and external collaborations with investigators across the world, including at the University of Minnesota to translate advances made by the Human Connectome Project to measure brain networks during aging and in Alzheimer s disease. He has authored many journal articles, book chapters, abstracts and other publications. In addition to his clinical and research activities, Dr. Jones is active in education and provides mentorship to neurology residents and fellows. He also holds professional memberships in the American Academy of Neurology and the International Society to Advance Alzheimer s Research and Treatment, among others. The greatest joy in his life stems from his wife Catharine, and his three children - Arley, Amelia, and Ian. 6 P a g e

7 LIZ CANAN Liz Canan works as an Administrator at Mayo Clinic. While she continues to enjoy the professional challenges associated with her 30 years at Mayo, her passion is truly serving others. Liz and her husband Tom have a wonderful daughter Katherine who recently graduated from the University of Kansas and is living and working in Kansas City. Their son Will left this Earth far too soon in October 2012, after a valiant 8.5-year battle with brain cancer. A childhood cancer diagnosis can be very isolating. Many, including our family, looked for others on a similar journey to connect with to share fears, hopes and dreams. There was a need in Rochester for an organization that could bring together families going through childhood cancer and provide support to them. So, in 2007, Liz co-founded Brighter Tomorrows with three other Moms whose kids also had cancer. She has served on the Brighter Tomorrows Board since its founding and is the current President. The mission of the organization was and still remains: to ensure that no family has to face a childhood cancer diagnosis alone, empowering these families with the emotional, spiritual, and educational resources and support vital to their journey. Since its founding, Brighter Tomorrows has served well over 1,300 Mayo Clinic families from across the world and will continue its mission so that no family has to face a childhood cancer diagnosis alone. MARK CLAUSSEN Optimist International Representative Mark Claussen is a Charter Member of the Norfolk Noon Optimist Club in Norfolk, Nebraska and a Life Member of Optimist International. The Optimists have provided him with twenty-five years of good friends, fond memories and meaningful opportunities to serve. Mark has served as President of his club and as Lt. Governor and Governor ( ) of the Nebraska District. He also serves as Chair for the Communication Contest for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing (CCDHH) and Junior Optimist International (JOI) for his district. Mark was Vice President of the Great Plains Region in and has served on the JOI and Membership committees at the international level. He is entering his 18 th year as a JOI advisor and will be serving as Chairman of the International JOI Committee during the Optimist year. Mark is beginning his 30 th year as a school psychologist in the Norfolk Public Schools this fall and has 38 years in the kid business overall. He has been married (JoAnn) for 37 years, is the father of two grown children. When not working or doing Optimist stuff, Mark enjoys playing with his two young grandboys. 7 P a g e

31 United States National Anthem Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that Star - Spangled Banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? Canadian National Anthem O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all of us command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, We stand on guard for thee. God keep our land, glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee; O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. 31 P a g e

32 The Optimist Creed Promise Yourself To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. The DMM District thanks MARCO and Tim Goetz for their ongoing support and the printing of this agenda. Please consider MARCO for all of your technology needs. 32 P a g e
