2 Huron Lodge News is important in making Huron Lodge the best home it can be. For those residents that are unable to complete the survey a family satisfaction survey was mailed in October with the monthly statements. Yard Sale Flu Shots! Annual flu shots will be administered to the residents the week of November The schedule is as follows: Monday Nov.6-second floor Tuesday Nov.7- third floor Wednesday Nov. 8- fourth floor Thursday Nov. 9-first floor Satisfaction Surveys In the fall, volunteers will be meeting with residents to fill out our annual satisfaction surveys. The surveys let the home know what we are doing well and things we can improve on. Your feedback On Wednesday November 8 we will be hosting a Free Yard Sale in the auditorium. All unclaimed belongings that the home has acquired will be put on display for residents and family members to come take a look at. The Yard Sale will take place from 11:00am till 5:00pm Family Council If you are interested in developing a family council for the home please contact Larry Laliberte at either lalaliberte@live.com or at Chaplain Services In October we said goodbye to our Chaplain the Reverend Sue Paulton. Sue has graciously decided to stay on as a volunteer and will continue with our Chime Choir and Memorial Service. Until

3 the home acquires another Chaplain please direct all requests of a spiritual nature to the social work department. Pets Welcome Huron Lodge loves having pet visitors here in the home. If you do bring a family pet in to visit a loved one, please make sure proof of vaccination is left with Amanda in the front office near security. Just a friendly reminder that all pet visitors should stay out of the dining rooms and must be on a leash at all times. Volunteers Needed! The home is always on the lookout for volunteers. If you are interested in sharing your time with the residents please contact Mary Carroll at ext We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available. nature for a wide variety of residents. We need your help to get our library of music started. If you have any CDs that the team could borrow please drop them off in Amanda s office near the security desk. If you have any further questions about the program please see Amanda. Did You Know? Huron Lodge has developed a cultural diversity and inclusion plan. The plan includes ways to celebrate our cultural, gender and spiritual differences to name a few. The full plan can be found in the resident library and on the community board in the cafe. Music and Memory The Resident Services team is working on bringing in a new program for the residents of Huron Lodge. The Music and Memory program is a personalized music program that is therapeutic in

6 Huron Lodge Resident Flu Vaccines will be Administered on: Monday, Nov. 6 Second floor Tuesday, Nov. 7 Third floor Wednesday, Nov.8 Fourth floor Thursday, Nov. 9 First floor KNOW THE FLU FACTS - The flu is very contagious and can spread quickly and easily. - Before you even know you are sick, you can pass the flu on to others. - The flu can affect anyone, including those who are healthy, but people at higher risk of serious complications are o Young children o Adults aged 65 and over o Pregnant women o Those living with chronic health conditions - In Canada, an average of 12,220 hospitalizations and 3,500 deaths related to the flu occur every year. You need to get vaccinated every year. - Flu viruses changes each year. Experts create a new vaccine to protect you each flu season. You can t get the Flu from the Flu vaccine. - The viruses in the flu vaccine are either killed or weakened and cannot give you the flu. The Flu vaccine is safe. - The flu vaccine had benefited millions of Canadian since Most people don t have reactions to the flu vaccine, those who do may have soreness, redness or swelling at the injection site. - Severe reactions to the vaccine are extremely rare. Everybody wins when you get vaccinated. - By getting your flu vaccine, you protect yourself and others because you are less likely to spread the flu - It s a simple action that can save lives. -
