12 January Small Group Training Open House Drop in, meet our staff, ask questions and learn about the 11 Small Group Training formats offered this semester. These classes are filling fast so register today! January 24 Sitting Volleyball Players may be sitting on the floor, but this six-players-per-team game remains fast-paced. This sitting version of volleyball is officially recognized as a Paralympic event. February 13 Valentine s Day Salsa and Yoga Desiring a calm, soothing evening or some sizzling salsa? Bring a friend, significant other or just bring yourself; all are welcome! Celebrate Valentine s Day by moving with Group Fitness. February 15 Weekend Warrior: Strength Training for Women This workshop is designed to teach women of all fitness levels how to effectively lift weights. Learn how to incorporate strength training into your current program and improve your technique while lifting. February Gator Hour All you need is a Gator1 Card to explore the UF Outdoor Team Challenge Courses, including the Alpine Tower and our new high ropes and elements course. February 22 Strong Gator The Strong Gator competition is a test of pure strength, explosive strength, speed, conditioning and muscular endurance through six different events. Males and females are invited and encouraged to participate in this test to find out who is the strongest Gator. March 22 Weekend Warrior: Cross Training for Runners Cross-training is crucial to running strong and healthy. This active workshop will teach you the best way to maximize your time in the gym and on the road so you can cross the finish line year round. March Team Handball Played with teams of seven players, teams pass and throw a ball into the goal of the other team. The Team Handball tournament will take place at SWRC on the basketball courts. April 11 2-Person Golf Scramble This 2-person golf tournament is played in a golf scramble format. Each player will tee off on every hole and teams select the best shot from which to play. April 12 Battleship Yes, that s right there will be canoes in Broward Pool. The classic board game comes to life as teams attempt to sink their opponents using buckets of water. Who will be the last team afloat? 10 Department of Recreational Sports
13 Rec Events January 25 Weekend Warrior: Strong Gator Prepare for this years Strong Gator competition with this Strongman-based Weekend Warrior! Learn about the sport of Strongman and get tips on how to build a training program for a Strongman competition on your own. February 07 Kan Jam Teams of two, flying discs and two goals. The Kan-Jam tournament will be at the Broward Outdoor Recreation Complex. The first team to score exactly 21 points will be declared the winner of each match! February 15 Disc Golf Tournament This tournament, held at Lake Wauburg, will have two heats with 18 holes each. Three divisions are available: advanced, men s amateur and women s amateur. February Swamp Shootout Basketball Tournament Swamp Shootout is a regional basketball tournament held at SWRC. Teams from across the country will gather at UF to compete for a chance to win a paid entry to the NIRSA National Championship. These classes are filling fast so register today! March 15 Music in the Park Music in the Park will be featured this Spring at Lake Wauburg s North Shore. Save the date for this afternoon filled with live musical performances by UF s Jazz and Steel Drum bands. Drop in at anytime throughout the day. No registration required! April 2 Swim Meet Held at the O Connell Center, our swim meet will have men s and women s divisions. Events include: 200Y Medley Relay, 100Y Individual Medley, 50Y Freestyle, 50Y Backstroke, 50Y Butterfly, 100Y Freestyle, 50Y Breaststroke and 200Y Freestyle Relay. April 6 Inner Tube Water Polo Water polo is played with an untraditional element for new fun and challenges inner tubes! Laughter is expected, but skill and strategy will leave one team afloat. April 12 Weekend Warrior: Core Training This workshop is designed to teach participants a variety of techniques for core activation, stability and strength. Bust common core training myths and learn how to structure an effective core workout with a variety of equipment. April 23 Midnight Fun Run The Midnight Fun Run is the perfect opportunity to accomplish your first 5k or improve your time for a future race! Beginning at midnight on the last day of spring classes, MFR is a 5k run or 1.5 mile walk with breakfast waiting at the finish line! All participants will receive a t-shirt. recsports.ufl.edu 11
