1 PELC Paw Prints February 2014 WHAT S HAPPENING Ethical Standards Ours is an association of service, and the manner in which the service is rendered is fully as important as the service itself. Our members and our communities expect honest and ethical conduct from each of us every day. LCI honest and ethical conduct is defined by four core values that serve as the foundation for our Ethical Standards: Integrity Lions Clubs International insists on the highest standards of personal and professional integrity. We must all make every possible effort to safeguard the association s assets. We must also comply with all association policies and applicable laws. Accountability Lions Clubs International expects all club officers to honor commitments as authorized and made on behalf of the association and take individual responsibility for all actions and outcomes. It has no tolerance for ethical violations. Teamwork Lions Clubs International seeks to maintain a service environment that encourages innovation, creativity and positive results through teamwork. We must all practice leadership to train, inspire and promote full participation and individual development for all Lions. We encourage open and effective communication and interaction. Excellence Lions Clubs International is dedicated to fair treatment, mutual respect, diversity and trust. We must challenge each other to improve our services, our processes and ourselves. We must strive together to serve our membership and communities and help the association achieve its goals. Your responsibilities begin with understanding of the core values and ethical standards of Lions Clubs International. Your role in the association demands an ongoing vigilance to maintain these standards of honest and ethical Are you Interested? According to a recent club survey several of you said you were. Below is a list of positions that you may be nominated for and placed on the slate of officers or nominated from the floor and added to the ballot. President serves as the clubs chief executive officer and presides at all club and BOD meetings. Abides by the clubs by-laws, plans the agenda and ensures the status of all of the clubs committees. He is also a member of the governor s advisory committee. Vice Presidents in the event the president is unable to perform his duties the office of the vice president will perform those duties. Each vice president over-sees the following basic functions of the club: 1 st VP Membership 2 nd VP Charities 3 rd VP Fundraising Secretary acts as a liaison officer between the club and both the district and LCI. The responsibilities include maintaining and submitting club reports. Treasurer is responsible for all club financial matters including paying club obligations, maintaining financial records and preparing financial statements and reports. Lion Tamer is responsible for the club property (flags, banners, gavels), helps maintain order at the meetings and distributes materials to the membership at meetings. Tail Twister promotes harmony, good fellowship and enthusiasm at club meetings through judicious imposition of fines on members. Public Relations contacts the local community media to alert them of the club activities. Program Director is responsible to bring to our club meetings programs of interest to

2 WHAT S HAPPENING Vision Service Coordinator collects used glasses from individuals, corporations and members for recycling at our eye clinics. Collin College Liaison maintain a working relationship with the local Collin College Lion Club. Media Directors this covers all media activities for the club including video, photos and newsletters while updating PELC website. Directors become voting members on the Board of Directors and require that the member be in good standing, participated in all club activities and have experience and knowledge of the clubs history and culture. Committees committee assignment is an important part of your membership. PELC activity committees conform to club projects and programs. There are also opportunities to become involved in club administration activities while working directly with the vice presidents and officers of the club. Over the next few weeks you will be hearing more about the opportunities that will be afforded to our membership to serve your club as an officer or committee member. The first nomination committee meeting will be held in the first week of February. Let one of the committee members know what your aspirations are and let them know how you could best serve your club. The nominating committee will have a slate of nominees available and presented to the club by first week in March and then the voting process for the contested positions will be held at the second membership meeting. The final form of slated officers will be voted on by the membership present at the 1st meeting in April. The approved slate of officers will be submitted by our secretary to LCI by Aril 15 th. The new officers of the club will begin their year of service starting July 1 st. Help your Club. Remember, WE SERVE. You gotta try your luck at least once a day, because you could be going around lucky all day and not even know it. Jimmy Dean LCI Netcasts and Webinars Netcasts and webinars are virtual training vehicles where participants use the Internet to connect with other group members and with the instructors. These courses are found on the LCI web site for your consideration. It helps to be informed and prepared when "WE SERVE". Webinars 2/7,12 - The Dream Continues (DG) 3/7,12 - What's Next (President) 4/4 9 Is it Your Dream (DG) 5/9 14 Conflict Resolution Pancake Breakfast 2/8 The Coppell Lions Club is having a Pancake Breakfast at the Austin Elementary School, 161 S. Moore Rd, Coppell TX from 7:00 am to noon. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for seniors and $3.00 for children, Why not drop by, have some great food and fellowship while helping the community blood drive, food pantry and book drive. It is fun sometimes to serve. Denim and Diamonds 3/29 Let the Glamour Begin. Lion Sight and Tissue Foundation presents a night of great food, dancing and fellowship with their annual Denim and Diamonds gala at the Hitt Auditorium, Methodist Hospital, 1441 North Beckley Avenue Dallas, TX. The glamour begins at 6:30 pm dinner and dancing until the evening ends at 9:00 pm. Tickets are available for $50.00 and don t forget the silent auction too. 3 PELC Eye Clinic at Christie Elementary Many thanks to the following great Lions who served at Christie Elementary eye clinic Saturday the 25 th of February: Lions Tom Seibert (Vision Bus Driver), George Harrington (LS&TF Director), Don and TJ Johnson, Arthur and Helen Young, Danny Fletcher, Cyndie Bunker, Ben Sheppard, Bobby Buison, Dora Harrington, Jack Durnin, Tom McCallister and a special shout out for the tireless effort from Dr. Charles Shidlofsky and his intern for the heavy lifting required to see over 50 students. Of course this event would not have happened without the dedicated effort of nurse Jennifer Conrad and the several nurses who provided assistance not only in setting up the clinic but also in guiding the students and parents through this process. We served by putting 47 pairs of glasses on students improving their ability to succeed.

4 District 2-X1Mid Winter Conference and Cabinet Meeting PELC had many of our Lions participated in the conference and cabinet meetings on Saturday the 18 th, in spite of the fact that we also had a conflicting club membership meeting at the same time. The following Lions participated in the district business: Lions Ken Gleason, Danny Fletcher, George Harrington, Cyndie Bunker and Tom McCallister. Our Golf Committee showed up to tell the district about our newest fundraiser and set up shop right out amongst them. Those Lions were: Lions TJ and Don Johnson, Marvin Surles, Mike Rogers, Terry Swanson and Dora Harrington.
