Questions, comments or articles for newsletter??? Editor: proctor1302@aol.com From the Governor... July and August is now in the past. 4 months with the new boards. The women are gaining momentum with having more people at their meetings and having new members volunteering. Great job ladies. Where are you guys? Having Kaye as our Administrative Assistant with 35 years of Moose experience has helped our new board of officers, men and women working together to better the Proctor Moose. A great big thank you Kaye for all you do for our Moose Club. The men's board of officers have 2 positions open. Please call me at to join our board. We really need Moose members to come to our Lodge meetings at 8 pm the first and the third Wednesday of each month. It's one hour every 2 weeks. The last 2 months have been very busy for our Lodge. July the International Moose Convention was held in Nashville, Tennessee. We sent one man and one woman from our Lodge. We were able to raise all the money through fundraising. Thanks to all that donated to the fundraising. We also took a box of school supplies to the convention and donated them to the Moose Charities who in turn donated them to local Nashville charities. Thank you to all who donated to this cause. We had a great picnic at our Lodge in July and I want to thank the people that came out to join the fun, and to all the volunteers that helped. August we hosted National Night Out again for the community. The Proctor Fire Dept and the Proctor Police Dept came and did live demonstrations on cutting cars apart. The Moose had a Child ID station that Kaye offered to our neighborhood kids. We served over 150 hotdogs plus chips and pop free to the public. Thanks again to all the volunteers. Our wonderful Sausage crew got together also and made 340 rings of potato sausage and around 150 Italian patties. Thank you all so much for your help. The Inner Group stared early Hoghead week getting prepared to make their wonderful pasties. They made around 350 and sold some on Thursday and had a plate dinner on Saturday which was awesome. Thank you all for a job well done. Friday night of Hoghead is the night that the school reunions have a meet and greet all night. It is a special night for them and I met a lot of people that night. I know a lot of them have been Moose members for a long time and live in Proctor. This Lodge is yours to enjoy weekly. We have members doing family functions in our hall or social quarters often. There was a small birthday party held in the hall Hoghead Saturday with 3 grandchildren, a daughter and 2 adults. They passed out cake to all who wanted. That's awesome! It's now Sunday night after Hoghead as I write this. We had a great week. Thanks again to Kaye and our wonderful stewards. They did a great job. We had volunteers that started on Sunday August 9th getting ready for Hoghead, and still volunteering today cleaning and organizing the Lodge. Thank you so much to everyone who helped this week and every week. The Lodge only continues to run smoothly through having members volunteering. We also donated, along with other businesses, to bring the Minnesota Wildlife Connection show to our parking lot for Hoghead again this year. We got to connect with those wonderful people and we also donated lunch to the high school and firefighters that did the clean up after Saturday night s event. The Proctor Moose Lodge is alive. I saw people from each day's Hoghead events who introduced themselves that have been Moose members from 1 week to 50 plus years. We welcomed non members in all week to our wonderful Lodge. This is great way to show Proctor we are the friendliest place in town. Please come and patronize your Lodge, and please volunteer. We need your help! My mission as your Governor is to think outside the box. I have ideas that we can do, like more community service for Proctor. Please come to the Lodge meetings to find out more. 3 Higher Degree Committee The Higher Degree Committee has changed the meeting time to the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00. This is a change from the first Saturday of the month at 3:00. We hope that by changing the day and time that we can get more people to attend since we are all busy on weekends. At our last meeting we planned a bake sale for October 10 th at 4:00 P.M. at the lodge. We are asking for baked goods to be donated to help raise money for our lodge. All funds raised go directly into the general fund which helps pay the bills. On October 3 rd at the Cloquet Lodge Arrowhead Moose Legion #72 will meet at 1:00 P.M. Also right after that meeting the Council of Higher Degrees will have their annual banquet at 3:00 P.M. Don t forget that the All State Moose Legion Celebration is at Proctor Lodge on October 16 th -18 th. Please attend these events as they all fun events where you can meet your friends. We will see you there. Dan Streu / Chairman Social Quarters Ramblings... We've hired another steward. Her name is Sheryl and she's very good. Come on in to meet her. Having 3 stewards on staff will ensure that you always get quality service and they won't get worn out as we try to get more events going all the time. Eddie Beavers played for us both Wednesday and Friday evening during Hoghead week. He also played for us August 28th at the Lodge steak fry. 2 Dug Nite entertained us Saturday evening during Hoghead, as always, they were thoroughly entertaining. I hope you got a chance to hear them. Karaoke with Bob & Bubba is back starting in September. Come on out and let's hear ya sing! We are also tossing a few ideas around for our quiet nights. Such as free pool Saturday night or how about Trivia night? Anything sound interesting? Do you remember the last time you were in the Lodge? Did you have a good time? We miss you! It s been a long time since we ve seen you at the lodge or at a Chapter meeting. There is always something going on at the Lodge. Invite your friends and family to join us in making our community a better place in which to live. Retention is the key to the chapter s success. Please remember how important your membership is to our chapter. PLEASE pay your dues on time. There are many convenient ways to pay your dues. Join us at our meetings (the 2 nd or 4 th Wednesday) of the month at 7:00 PM and you can renew your dues that night or stop by the Lodge at your convenience. If you can t make it into the lodge, you can pay your dues online. Just go to mooseintl.org and pay with any debit or credit card. A successful Chapter needs the help and support of ALL our members. Come and share your ideas with us at our Chapter meetings and enjoy the fun and fellowship. If there is anything I can do to help, just let me know. The 90th Annual Minnesota Moose Association Convention is coming up in St. Cloud September Look for info on the state website ( It s almost October! Look for an update in the Lodge about the kids Halloween party. I hope that everyone had a good time at the burn your own steak fry's and the National Night Out. I would like to invite everyone to come and check out our new meetings. Things are changing all the time. Our meetings are the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm. We have also started doing light dinners on Friday night's during Bingo. Call the Lodge to find out what is on the menu. Thank You. Jessica Stevenson / Senior Regent News From The Inner Group... Hello everyone! Hoghead came and went. The Inner Group made close to 400 pasties in one day to sell for first come buyers and for the Saturday pasty dinner after the parade. We had about 60 frozen left to sell at the end. Our next pasty bake will be October 20th-22nd. The sign up sheet is posted. We had to up our price to $5 a pasty as some expenses went up and stayed up in cost. Please, sign up for your order and pass the word around. Remember: no substitutions. You order with rutabaga, that's what you buy. We only make enough non-rutabagas for those on order. Thank you for your understanding on this matter. We are planning on making a few more batches extra than usual. That means we will be making around 1000 in October over 3 days! Inner Group meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday at 1pm. September 22nd and October 27th are our upcoming meetings. Thanks to Robin, Annette, and Sharyn for helping us serve over 140 pasties during Hoghead dinner Saturday afternoon! We had a few extra helpers on Thursday when we made them. Extra hands make light work! In fact, Robin's friend Jody helped make the dough for all the pasties...that's a lot of LARD work! Deanna's grandchildren came too. They had smiles on their faces all day...and had their first taste of pasties. Come and join the fun in October. Even a few hours a day can help us out. !! This year is certainly flying by. We made it through another Hoghead ( the 40th one in fact), the kids are going back to school (Amen) and we're starting to think ahead to the holiday season.

That being said, I'm happy to report we've had a couple new enrollments and a couple re-enrollments the last couple months, always a good sign. This brings me to my next point.

From the Office... Egads!!! This year is certainly flying by. I've been in the office 6 months now and I feel I've got a pretty good handle on all the day to day stuff and have it somewhat organized to my tastes. That being said, I'm happy to report we've had a couple new enrollments and a couple re-enrollments the last couple months, always a good sign. This brings me to my next point. When was the last membership meeting you attended? Do you have some ideas you'd like the Lodge to try? Do you not like some of the changes we've made? What can we do to encourage you to attend a meeting? Do you want to know what's really going on? By not attending, the direction of many is being decided by a few. I'll look for you at the next meeting. Now for some fun news. At our annual National Night Out event in August, we also held a Kid's ID session, 18 kids participated. The Lodge presented the parent or guardian with a thumb drive containing the following information: pertinent info including age, height, weight, contact info, their fingerprints, 4 photos (some poses looked like mug shots) and a short video. In the awful event a parent has to use this, it can be given to a police officer and he can plug it into the computer in his squad and immediately have all the information he needs. I understand that these thumb drives can be updated when needed. We had a very successful Hoghead week. I want to thank the dedicated group of volunteers that manned the food tent both Wednesday evening and Saturday during the day and it was in the 90's each day. They did an awesome job. The Thursday Burger crowd enjoyed their usual good food and friendly service, we even had a crew man the kitchen on Friday night. Our club stewards really had a workout every night, but I knew they were up to it. The Pasty Crew came through again and even made a few extra to sell. And let's not forget the Sausage Kings, they came the week before and made 340 rings of their world renown potato sausage, then preceded to make Italian sausage patties to have at the food tent. MANY THANKS to all who helped in any way, we couldn't have done it without you. We have the District cribbage tournament scheduled for September 12th here at the Lodge, Highway cleanup is scheduled for Oct.10th at 10am (do you know a high school student who needs community service hours?), and the Volunteer dinner is scheduled for Oct. 24th. Look for flyers with more information. Proctor is hosting the All State Moose Legion Celebration Oct th. There are several meals and activities planned. We will be looking for extra volunteers. Please talk to one of the board members. We have a variety of jobs to fill from cooking to manning the courtesy car phone. We have been getting a lot of inquiries about using the hall and the book is filling up. So far we have something scheduled every week-end through the first weekend in November. There are even a couple of events booked for next year. So if you have been debating about using the hall for an event, please check with me ASAP. Well, I think I've rambled enough.
