Firstly, the Lodge Banquet. The Lodge Banquet was an event held at the Knott s Berry Farm hotel, and celebrated the achievements of last year and looking forward to the year coming. Also, we thanked the 2015 Lodge Board and Chapter Chiefs and welcomed the 2016 Lodge Board and Chapter Chiefs. The best part of the night, was when our own Philip Paulson won the Wiatava Lodge Founder s Award, he s been serving our chapter for about 6 years and has earned the Vigil Honor. Secondly, we have our Wiatava Lodge Trade-o-Ree on February 26th and 27th. This is the annual patch trading event sponsored by the lodge, if you would like more information, please contact Klaus Quinonez at klaus.quinonez@icloud.com. Lastly, we have our Pinewood Derby at the Westminster Mall on January 30th. This is a great event to attend, not only to interact and recruit Webelos for your troops, but to give back to the community and Council by helping out the Cub Scouts at this event. My name is Russel de los Reyes and I am the EVC of the 2016 board. During my term here, I will be working on OA Troop Elections, tap-outs during Camporee, Ordeal weekend, and the Chapter Banquet. I am looking forward to serving the Santee Chapter, as we gain new members and keep old ones, working together in cheerful service. Secretary: Owen Pearce Hello, I am Owen Pearce. The current secretary and webmaster. I am 15 years old and attend Los Alamitos High School. I live in the city of Rossmoor and am in Troop 658, out of Good Shepard Church. I love to draw and I am an aspiring animator. I am looking forward to this year. Treasurer: Logan Ueno I am Logan Ueno and I am excited to be your 2016 chapter treasurer! Some history about me is that I'm a Life Scout of Troop 578, current patrol leader and my troop s OA representative. My past roles are: Troop Trail to First Class Facilitator, patrol scribe for 2 terms and NYLT trained. As the patrol scribe I had everybody in my patrol all caught up on dues so that's what I want to do for our chapter. My number one goal for Santee is to make sure we collect chapter dues. A healthy budget will give our chapter a head start for a successful year. Other goals are having a profitable Camporee trading post and ensuring a balanced fiscal year. Chapter dues are still a low $18 a year. What other organization can give you such fellowship at this incredible price? Dues not only help our chapter but support Wiatava lodge. 3 Chapter Adviser: Jerry Johnson Hello and welcome to the 2016 Santee chapter season. I am Jerry Johnson and i am the chapter adviser for this season. My vision is to help guide your board to revitalize and to help return Santee to the level of excellence we have enjoyed in the past. In order do this we need all of you arrowmen to get involved, be involved and to want to make a difference. Our board cannot do this without the support of all of our Arrowmen going to events, coming to the meetings and volunteering to help. We need you to step and ask what you can do to help. We still have some crucial board position that need to be filled and we still have openings on the ceremonies team. Ceremonies is something that our chapter has a legacy.this is something i feel is very important for us to excel at. It is a way to share our cheerful service with others. We not only do the ceremonies at Ordeal but we also volunteer to perform Arrow Of Light ceremonies and cross overs at Cub Scout Packs which gives the chapter visibility in our scout community and come let s admit we look really impressive all decked out in our regalia. But this not all we do and everything is important, helping out can be as simple as helping with registration at an event, helping with set up, or just voicing your opinion on what you what like to do. I have had on several occasions that people have stopped coming to the meetings because they are boring or we do nothing productive and we are trying to change that, but we will fail without all of getting involved. I had an adult at one time come to me and he said he was going to quit coming because the meetings were worthless and responded to him with well if someone is not here to help guide the youth how can you expect them to be able to effect change. Change needs to led to move forward in a positive way. If we keep doing things the same way all of time we always get the same results. I know that you all are thinking that we are too busy and that i do understand, but I also feel this organization is worth dedicating some of our valuable time to. For example my life is like this. I am the Father of 3 boys and i have 3 grandchildren, I am an Assistant Scoutmaster at Troop 4, a merit badge counselor for 7 different merit badges. I have mentored 4 Scouts to Eagle Scout rank and am currently mentoring 2 more in the middle of the process. I am an NRA firearms instructor and training counselor, I am a Hunting Education Instructor., I am on the board with Cerritos Rod and Gun club which reaches out to community and does things like running and organizing the Fishing Derby and breakfast for 2000 people every year. And by the way I am also the refreshment chair for our meetings at this club. I am a Board of Director at California Rifle and Pistol Association were I also sit on 3 different committees one which is the youth shooting sports committee that helps to support the shooting programs in our scouting community,(this is also the organization that is out defending you 2nd Amendment rights and your hunting rights in California, I am getting the Silver Beaver Award this February and I am also the Course Director for the February WOOD BADGE course, which is the best adult training available anywhere and we do still some openings. I feel all adult leaders should have this training it does make a difference and it is sure way to give back and to help improve the scouting program. Oh and i almost forgot that i work a 40 hour a week job. That was just an example that I do understand being busy, but this the Order of the Arrow is too important not to make time for,it helps our youth learn leadership, giving to community, fellowship and the true meaning of Brotherhood. So let s get to it and make a difference and help us to build a stronger chapter by helping and getting involved. JERRY JOHNSON CHAPTER ADVISER

4 Election Season! (Not those talking heads in DC!) We are currently in Elections season. Starting this month until the end of March, my elections team and I will be visiting each Troop within our District. During those visitations, we will hold OA Unit Elections, give a Camp Promotion Presentation, and conduct uniform inspections for Camporee, as well as talk about the OA to the young scouts in the troops. The troops that still need to contact me for a date to do a visitation are 295, 4, 314, 657, 660, 280, 1271, and If you are listed above, please contact me ASAP so that we can schedule a date. Q: Why did the cross-eyed teacher lose her job? We are always looking for articles, pictures, stories and jokes for the newsletter. Q: What do you call a bee that lives in America? A: USB OA Rep Needed! I am looking for a youth to fulfill a position on my board: Chapter OA Rep. The Chapter OA Rep is a great position to take up if you are looking a low time commitment job, that still has a position on the board as well as keeps you involved. The time commitment like I said is low, your busy time will be from mid-january to the end of March when you will be visiting troops and then after that it will take a half hour (30 mins) tops each month to send out s to the Troop OA Reps. Your position would entail a few things: going to the troops during elections and speaking about our chapter, collecting contact info (there's a form already made) of each Troop OA Rep, and sending s to the Troop OA Reps keeping them up to date on the chapter activities. 6 Day Camp is July from 2:45 to 8:15 PM All Scouts and Scouters are encouraged to help out Day Camp Volunteer information Please check the Orange Frontier / El Capitan Cub Day Camp website at for important dates, training, schedules, maps, the announcement list, and contact information for the camp. Adult Volunteers (ages 18 and up): Adult Volunteers must include a copy of their Youth Protection Training certificate when submitting their medical form. If you have not yet completed training, please visit: create a login, and take the Youth Protection Training course. Submissions of current CPR training and Hazardous Weather training will also be greatly appreciated, but are not required. Youth Volunteers (ages 11-13): Young youth need to be accompanied by a parent volunteer each day. Adult and Youth Volunteers (ages 11+): Each volunteer is required to attend one of two training sessions: Saturday, July 9, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Sunday, July 17, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm St. Hedwig Church School 3591 Orangewood Ave. Los Alamitos, CA Pre-Check in: An invitation to attend pre-check, held on Sunday, July 24, will be sent to all families that have returned their required paperwork by Sunday, July 17.
