At Lake Trail pavilion we enjoyed making our own ice cream and then creating delicious sundaes. The sub supper and putt-putt tourney at Stoney Creek were also great. Twenty-one club members created seven threesomes to play in the tournament. Trophies were awarded to Lion Sean for the individual low score, Lions Buzz, Steve and Mary Jo for low team score and Alex Clarke for the high individual score. Five teams scored two aces. The most aces trophy was presented to the team of Lions Tony and Sean and Alex after a tie breaker was utilized. The Twister Sisters continue to keep us smiling. Of course, they also are very good at collecting fines. Thanks go to Lion Connie and the food committee for organizing our meals. There are only two cards left in the Progressive 50/50 raffle because Lion Steve was unable to find the Ace of Diamonds. There s a big jackpot waiting for a lucky Lion at the September 12th meeting. Alex is the big winner! Winners of the tourney! Brenda entertains her team! September Meetings and Meals The summer club meeting schedule has concluded and we will return to two regular meetings on the 2 nd and 4 th Thursdays beginning on September 12th. These dinner meetings will be held at Tait s Gathering Room (menus in the Sept. newsletter). The first meeting of each month will be a $14 dinner and the second will be lighter fare for $10. Lion Buzz will enjoy a free meal on September 12th because his name was drawn from the bucket.

2 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Board Business~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Correspondence: Thank you cards and notes were received from: St. Anthony s Church for our donation made in memory of Lion Chuck s mother St. Joseph Health System for our $100 gift to the hospice program The Girl Scouts for our $50 contribution made through the United Way. A $500 check was received from the Lions of Michigan Foundation for our club s assistance with the 1 st annual Eye Care Do You? walk/run. The executive board voted to use the funds to help defray costs of the 50 th Anniversary celebration. A $100 gas card will be presented to our guest speaker and a $200 donation will be made to LCIF in PID Dennis Cobler s name. The board approved the drawing for the anniversary pin. Lion Wayne will proceed with ordering 150 pins. Three former District Governors, Lion Lewis, Lion Florence and Lion Al, will have their names added to the club s banner. Lion Wayne has offered to take care of this. The board approved a $50 donation to Iosco County Pride which supports student activities. This also serves as our membership fee for this year. $200 was approved from the Humanitarian Fund to help an Oscoda resident. Lion Jane reported that five Lions helped set up and take down equipment for the Blood Bank held on August 6 th. 58 community members donated. Have you paid your dues? Dues should be submitted to Lion Newana as soon as possible. The next Executive Board Meeting will be held on September 5 th at 7:00 p.m. at the Steffes residence 7131 Lakewood Drive. It is easiest to find from Cedar lake Road. Turn in on Kingswood. Turn left on Lakewood. Lion Buzz s home will be on your left just past Briarwood Way. All board members are encouraged to attend. River Road Cleanup Completed Ten Lions trekked along River Road on July 21 st. for the second read cleanup of the season. An hour s work put the Scenic back in the Byway. It followed a really hot week so there was an abundance of empty ice bags and water bottles. The final River Road cleanup for this season is set for September19th at 6:00 p.m. Meet at the OHS parking lot.

3 50 th Anniversary Plans are Set On Saturday, October 12 th, we will mark fifty years of dedicated Lion service at a luncheon served at Tait s Bill of Fare, 111 Dwight Steet. We encourage you and your guests to be there to help us celebrate and socialize.because Tait s has limited seating, we need our club members to confirm reservations by September 1 st. This will help us know how many seats we can offer to other District 11-E2 clubs who may wish to send representatives. Tait s will open at 12:30 p.m. to serve appetizers and complimentary soft drinks prior to the 1:00 p.m. luncheon meal. A cash bar will be available to those requesting beer, wine or cocktails. The menu for the luncheon is as follows: Broiled Mahi Mahi or Chicken Especialle or Stuffed Pork Chop Garden Basmati Rice Fresh Vegetables Bread and Butter Coffee, Tea, Soft Drinks Tax and Gratuity included Cost: $20.00 Our guest speaker will be PID Dr. Dennis Cobler of the Muskegon Northside Lions Club who will help us celebrate this landmark day in Oscoda Lions Club history. Craft Fair Coming Soon October 5 th is the date for the 13 th Annual Fall Festival Arts and Craft Show. Many vendors plan to participate and letters have been sent to previous vendors. Sponsoring the event requires lots of volunteers. After the board meeting on October 3 rd, members will be needed to measure and mark the booth areas on the floor. On Friday, October 4 th, members will be needed to check in vendors and help set up and, of course, Lions will be needed to work the fair on Saturday. The club will also have a booth. A variety of crafts and baked goods that you contribute will be sold. Plan to contribute.

4 Super Six Raffle Summary Our Lions over-the-counter sales crew hit a true gold mine at Nieman s Market on August 9 th and 10 th selling a combined weekend total of 489 tickets to our Lions supporters. We will deposit a grand total of $ into our ever growing raffle fund. As of August 11 th, a total of 1,276 tickets have been entered into the sold column. Thanks go to Lions Bob, Newana, Ruth, Jane, Dave, Gary, Joe, Joan, Craig, Nate and Bud for their efforts. We still have forty days for indvidual members to market our ducats to family, friends and social contacts. Our over the-counter crews will be at Family Fare on August 30 th and 31 st as well as at the Paul Bunyan Fest on September 21 st. Remember! Our goal is to sell out completely this year. Thanks to all Lions who are part of our venture!! Additional tickets are available from Lion Gary. Give him a call. Emmanuel Mission Wish List Emmanuel Mission provides individuals and families emergency shelter services for up to 90 days. Everyone has a bed with mattresses, clean sheets, blankets and pillows to sleep. Showers and laundry facilities are available as is a fully stocked pantry and kitchen. Individuals who would like to serve through random acts of kindness might keep the Mission in mind when down-sizing closets and finding clean, spare sheets, pillow cases, blankets, bath or hand towels or pillows. The Mission also accepts non-perishable and fresh garden produce in season. Nothing goes to waste at Emmanuel Mission. The Mission has some current needs: paper towels, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, Kleenex, HE laundry soap pods, dish soap, trash bags, place-sets of flatware, glass coffee mugs and shower shoes. The Mission is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. in the summer; 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. in the winter. Anyone wanting to drop off donations before opening should call Special Lion Thoughts Lions Howard and Sharron Pawley continue to improve after serious health problems. We look forward to seeing them at a club meeting soon. Keep Lion Tom Davidson in your thoughts and prayers as he, too, is dealing with serious health issues.
