Mission Statement: The Go Green initiative is a comprehensive program designed to create a culture of responsibility at the College of Dentistry. The objection of Go Green is to unite staff, faculty, administrators, and students in an effort to make real and lasting changes to the College s recycling practices that will protect the environment and the community. Go Green Central Committee: Chair - Nancy Slach (Energy Conservation); Scott Arneson (Finance); Dr. Pete Damiano, Dr. David Drake, (University Liaison); Dr. Ron Elvers (Recycling); Dr. Mike Kanellis, Ron Roskam (Data Collection and Policy Assessment); and Ann Synan (Marketing & PR). More than 25 additional people from the College of Dentistry community have volunteered their efforts. We need your support. Green News is Good News: The U of I received honorable mention from Power Down for the Planet (http://www.powerdownfortheplanet.org/) for the highest number of campus-wide pledges more than 6,000 -- to use greener computing practices. Thanks to those who signed up! There is a new Google search engine, Blackle, that uses less energy. Go to http://www.blackle.com to check it out. The College is looking into Dyson Airblade hand dryers for our restrooms. You can learn more about these environmentally friendly hairdryers at http://www.dysonairblade.com/technology/, or visit UI s Burge Hall and try them out! Don t throw away your printer cartridges-- they can be recycled. Many stores offer coupons good for paper and offer merchandise in exchange for the cartridges. Schools collect these cartridges as well. Coming soon a Go Green Blog sharepoint site (COD home page, IntraDent; Collegiate Committees) to share information and to volunteer. Green Fact of the Week: Every year Americans throw away enough office paper to build a 12-ft. high wall of paper from New York to Seattle.
