Microlight Electro-Acupuncture Post-Stroke Protocol Darren Starwynn, O.M.D. With contributions from Ann Hansen, M.T.
Neuro-Muscular Degenerative Diseases (NMD) Post-Stroke Syndromes Parkinson s Disease ALS - Lou Gehrig s Disease Multiple Sclerosis Many other forms of wasting, weakness and paralysis The treatment methods taught today can benefit all of these conditions, although protocols and choice of techniques vary.
What are Strokes? Strokes are caused by brain cells being damaged due to lack of oxygen associated with vascular issues There are two kinds of strokes: Ischemic due to blocked blood vessels starving areas of the brain of oxygen and nutrients. High survival rate but often with impairments Hemorrhagic When blood vessels burst in the brain causing bleeding that destroys brain cells. Death rate is 30 50% from this kind.
Post-Stroke Syndrome: Possible Symptoms Paralysis and lack of motor control, poor balance Difficulty swallowing Loss of feeling or pain Speech impairment Incontinence Comprehension, language and memory problems Emotions such as depression, anger, frustration
Q: What Is Microlight Therapy? A: A unique energy medical technology that combines lowfrequency microcurrents with specific colors of therapeutic light. Treatment is directed through acupuncture points & facial and body regions. Microlight is the fastest known method for non-drug pain relief, and greatly accelerates neuromuscular rehabilitation on a cellular and tissue level.
Microlight Therapy through acu-points and body regions can help clear electrical blockages, improve neurologic function and balance the autonomic nervous system
Multi-Modal Microcurrent: Essential for Post-Stroke Tx This is an integrated approach to therapy combining use of microcurrent and therapeutic exercise with adjunctive use of color light therapy and/or essential oils. For best results, these elements of therapy are usually applied simultaneously or in a sequence within the same treatment session.
Evaluation for Post-Stroke Patients Brief medical history (neuro reports are helpful) Evaluate all physical and emotional symptoms and corresponding meridians Electronic meridian testing - Acutron or AcuGraph (MEA chapters 11 and 16) Alarm point kinesiology (MEA Chapter 15) Test chakra spins using pendulum (Healing the Root of Pain book, Chapter 10) Color testing
Sequence Therapy Using a series of Microlight probe and pad techniques to enhance results Allows you to treat confidently even without a clear treatment plan Post-stroke protocol is sequence therapy Microlight can be combined with FST, acupuncture needle therapies, manipulation or physical therapies
Suggested Post-Stroke Sequence Use 1 2 Root techniques per session followed by 2 3 Branch techniques per session Probes (Root Tx): Spinal Autonomic, GV/CV, PNE Balancing (1 2 techniques per session) Probes- (Root/Branch): Auricular micro-macro, Odontons Pads (Branch) Russian Stim followed by IF #3, with simultaneous acupuncture needling Pads (Branch) Interferential with motion Scalp microcurrent electro-acupuncture w/ Red light (Branch) plus Ear Clips Total treatment time: minutes
Treatment Process I 1) Essential oils applied to both feet. High quality Lavender usually good. Darren s pick: Floracopeia 2) Bi-lateral spinal on Bladder meridian or Huatuo points - Freq. 0.3, 2.0, 5.0, 10, 20, 30 or use ramp HZ from 1-12 Hz and Hz 30 second per level 3) CV (Ren) & GV (Du) Walking the Dog applications (see charts for suggested colors) 4) Local direct tx to areas of paralysis or atrophy with electro-pad therapies using Russian Stim followed by microcurrent with sloped Freq. 80,120,180. For µa: Note degree of inflammation for frequency range (if inflammation is present begin high 300 plus, if not start low 0.3 and work up to 30 plus) 5) Acupuncture needling during pad treatments
Treatment Process II 5) Auricular applications are the most powerful and should be applied exactly as specified in the attached charts 6) Odontons: Stim each tooth high in the Freq 10 Hz, 600 µa, 30 sec per area 7) Facial rejuvenation application paying attention to Lymphatic drainage with yellow as color (avoid carotid artery) To learn see Energy Light Rejuvenation training manual and DVD 8) Ear clips should be applied for 10 minutes following each session can be done during scalp acupuncture tx, with some rest period after 9) Emotional healing as needed PNE Balancing works well
Each of these techniques can be categorized as Root or Branch Root: Techniques that treat underlying weakness or toxicity of Organs, glands, the 3 Treasures (Qi, Jing & Shen), hereditary factors or pervasive emotional/soul imbalances. Branch: Treatments that address pain and neuromuscular weakness, imbalance or dysfunction.
Treatment Process Ongoing tx requires one or two of the Root treatments plus two or more Branch treatments per session for 3 consecutive days per week until recovery is complete. Usually one month tx is needed for every year of illness. These steps can be mixed and matched following an initial consecutive series. You will observe symptom resolution through the systemic applications. SOAP note all changes pre and post tx. When you find areas of low and high conductance (observe the readings for plateau). Modify your Acutron as per parameters listed in the Acutron Protocol Manual or Microcurrent Electro-Acupuncture book treating all affected areas from head to toe. Some areas of involvement require active motion during tx (microcurrents with motion). Intensity should be just below sensation level.
Sample Treatment Plan Objective Treat the Root and Branch and see how much you can re-invigorate motor abilities.
Sample Treatment Plan Probes (Root Tx): Spinal Autonomic Balance Pads (Branch) Russian Stim followed by IF #3, with simultaneous acupuncture needling Scalp microcurrent electro-acupuncture w/ Red light (Branch) plus Ear Clips Total treatment time: 40 minutes
Root Techniques Used For detoxification and balancing of autonomic N.S., Organs, hormones and meridians, emotional clearing Spinal autonomic balance Scalp acupuncture point tx using microcurrent and Red light (non-needle)
Branch (Symptomatic) Techniques Used For neuro-muscular rehab and improvement of circulation Russian Stimulation Acupuncture Frequency-sequence microcurrent
Overview of Microlight Root Techniques Used for this Case
Spinal Autonomic Balance Treat series of para-spinal Back-Shu points with Microlight probes moving bilaterally down spine. These treatment parameters were used: Intensity: 75 µa Biphasic (+/-) polarity Square waveform Timer: 30 seconds per spinal level Color therapy was changed at each level of the spine, selecting colors that matched corresponding Organs Acutron Ramp Hz: Treatment is programmed to ramp in ascending and descending frequencies between 1 and 12 Hz.
Electro-Acupuncture According to Voll (EAV) Reinhold Voll, M.D. ( ) was a major microcurrent pioneer. His research into microcurrent frequency treatments led him to the knowledge that the range of Hz was most beneficial for tonifying and balancing internal organs and the autonomic nervous system. This is why I suggest using the Acutron Ramp Hz setting of 1 12 Hz.

Spinal Autonomic Regulation Therapy Use Organ-specific colors, or simpler version is Orange for points below L3, points above can be treated with White light. Kinesiology can be used for determining color selection.
Organ Color Correspondances Organ Primary Colors Secondary Colors Yang Yin Yang Yin Lungs No current for patients with cardiac disease or pacemaker, others OK Red Green Orange Indigo Pericardium No current, light only Scarlet or Magenta Violet Orange Blue Heart No current, light only Scarlet or Magenta Purple Orange Blue Gall Bladder Yellow Violet Red Green Liver Yellow Violet Red Green Stomach Yellow Violet Orange Blue Spleen/Pancreas Yellow Violet Orange Blue Triple Warmer Yellow Violet Red Green Small Intestine Magenta Green Yellow Violet Large Intestine Orange Blue Yellow Violet Kidneys Red Green Scarlet or Magenta Urinary Bladder Red Green Scarlet or Magenta Purple Purple
Overview of Microlight Branch Techniques Used in this Case
Russian Stimulation This is a polyphasic waveform consisting of a continuous 2500 Hz sine wave, modulated to yield 50 bursts per second. Used in ma range for effects on muscle motor stimulation Originally designed by Kots for muscle re-education for the Russian Olympic team. Note: Russian stimulation is included in Acutron as ma preset #3 I have found it to be very effective for treating NMD patients.
Sample Russian Stimulation Leg Placements Acutron ma Pad Preset #3 Adjust intensity to tingling level Can be combined with acupuncture needle insertions Follow with I.F. #3 (microcurrent) for extremity issues
Dermatome Interferential for Extremity Pain or Neuropathy + -
Needle Acupuncture Points Used
Scalp Holographic Treatment Scalp and ear micro-system points contain many interferences that holographically connect with all parts of the body These points respond very well to microcurrents and infra-red or red light for treatment of joint pain and neurological conditions
Scalp Microcurrent Technique Scalp and ear microsystem points contain many points that holographically connect with all parts of the body In this technique, the patient put his bare feet on brass foot plate connected to device. I stimulated scalp acupuncture points with microcurrent and Red light, thus creating circuit between head and feet. 75 µa, negative polarity on head, 10 Hz, Red Light
Spinal Hologram on Scalp
Ren and Du (CV & GV) Option 2
Auricular Master Points
Odonton Microlight Therapy Use Acutron Probe Preset #1, modify as needed. Patient can hold brass hand mass to complete circuit
Native Colors of the Chakras (PNE Centers)

Auricular Therapy & Post Stroke Response to auricular is unfreezing of the face, demonstrable to everyone immediately. Also smiling both sides of the mouth after no possibility for 6 years. 30 seconds per point. Patient can hold hand mass, or use Micro-Macro technique. Main points used: heart, branch, shenmen, zero point, neck, bladder, branch, sympathetic nervous system, lower back (back of the ear ear) pancreas, subcortex, brain, mandible, shenmen, pylorus, internal secretions (endocrine), neck, eye, muscle relaxations, popliteal Fossa.
Auricular Micro-Macro Technique
Easiest to set Acutron timer to 20 seconds and treat for that duration on each point. Use Probe Preset #2 with auricular probe tip on Trigger Probe. Add colors according to testing.

Frequency Sequence Microcurrent for Post-Stroke Treatment Van Gelder frequencies are from book Frequency Specific Microcurrent in Pain Management by McMakin 40 / 62 Inflammation / in arteries 284 / 62 Chronic inflammation / arteries 91 / 62 Calcium ions / arteries 3 / 62 Sclerosis / arteries 40 / 396 Inflammation / nerves 284 / 396 Chronic Inflammation / nerves 91 / 396 Calcium ions / nerves 3 / 396 Sclerosis / nerves For PN induced by drug toxicities add: 57, 900, 920 / 62 toxicity / blood vessels 57, 900, 920 / 396 toxicity / nerves
Cranial Microcurrent Tx Regulates sleep cycles (very important), reduces sympathetic overactivity (protects adrenals), promotes emotional balance 25 µa intensity, use sequence of frequencies square waveform 2.0 (5 min), 5.0 (5 min), & 10 Hz (10 min). Cranial points are also valid unless pain is primary. In that case use LI 11, LI 4 and Liv 3. Use ear clips (Acutron or Alpha-Stim) Small pads at the frontal lobe (just over the brow) work well with earclips. MAKE CERTAIN that pads and clips are on continuous modulation and that Freq remains the same for both.
Frequencies order of tx is 0.3, 2.0, , 30 (all Hz) for Autonomic Spinal Balance, or Acutron Ramp Hz inflammatory conditions use: 320, 160,80 30, 10 (all Hz) earclips 2.5 Hz for 5 minutes, 5.0 Hz for 5 minutes, 10 Hz for 10 minutes Intensity µa
