8 Tim Shaw s Story This was my 5th National Championship to play in. I have always come back home with new friends, new stories and more experience. Although this Team West team didn't have a lot of "western flavour" as most of the players were from Ontario, it was a different experience yet also fun. Changes are being made with the National program to make National tournaments more competitive. Our team faced the challenge of developing chemistry in a short period of time compared to other teams who have practiced together all year. Everyone bought in to the coaches' philosophy, working together as a team and treating each other with respect. We got better and better as a team as the tournament went on. We beat Pacific 5-3. We beat Central 3-2 with 7.6 seconds left (we actually tied them with 1:32 remaining). Then in the Championship Game we won in a roller coaster game 7-6 in OT (Cole Laing with the winner) with 17 seconds left. It is my hope that some of the Team West veterans can come back and we can recruit new young players in Western Canada. Not disrespecting the Ontario players that helped but they were tremendous people to be around and I wouldn't mind having them back ;) Once again having Gerard McDonald back as our Coach and having Scott Dure as our Asst coach/interpreter it was an absolute pleasure to have them again The Hockey Hall of Fame is getting Cole Laing's jersey #16 with ADSA logo on the back and everyone's autograph is on it. They also got Cole's stick and puck he scored GWG with These were donated to the HHOF by Roy Hysen (executive director for Team Canada). I hope this can encourage players continue playing and come back for fun. I also hope this can help find us new players or encourage others to come out. It is a wonderful experience and great way to meet/make friends. Cheers, Tim Shaw 10th Roy Hysen Canadian Deaf Ice Hockey Championship Toronto, Ontario 8

9 Cole Laing s Story Roy Hysen cup was played in Mississauga and Team West went undefeated in the tournament with our hard work and passion with a team that I loved playing with. We made it to the gold medal game, against Team East and won 7-6 in overtime with 10 seconds left We had some returning players and new players on the team and it was a great experience to play with them. Hope to see them again Results Gold: Western Silver: Eastern Bronze: Central PARTNERSHIPS: Calgary Sport Council 9

10 CDSA Administrative Announcement Good Afternoon, Over the past few months, CDSA has undergone some growth and transition within our administrative team and we re excited to share this news with you today. I m pleased to announce that we ve identified key areas of focus in order to advance our strategic priorities and better serve our membership, and we are thrilled to be welcoming some new members our team in the coming weeks. First of all, it is with great pleasure that I announce that Ghysline "Gigi" Fiset s position title has been changed to Manager of Operational Services and Events in order to more accurately reflect her role. As you all know, Gigi has been a fixture within our organization, working diligently on behalf of the Canadian Deaf Sports Association and all Team Canada Deaf Athletes for the past 15 years. Gigi has made countless contributions to both the Canadian Deaf Sport Community and Internationally - including currently serving as the President of the Pan American Deaf Sports Organization, and we are very excited to see her transition into this new title with CDSA. This change will become effective immediately. Please feel free to contact Gigi via at gigi.fiset@assc-cdsa.com to offer your congratulations. Secondly, I am happy to announce that CDSA has selected Kristin Trott as the new Manager of Sport Development and Outreach Services. Kristin brings to CDSA a wealth of knowledge and expertise through her education in Kinesiology from the University of Lethbridge, and professional experience as a Teacher and as a Health and Fitness Manager from which she has developed a number of skills which will serve her well in this role. Kristin is a multi-sport athlete herself, and prior to accepting this position, Kristin was the Team Manager for our National Deaf Women's Volleyball Team and she attended the 2013 Deaflympics in Sofia, Bulgaria. As a volunteer, she is the Co-chair and a Board member of "Hands and Voices - Ottawa" - a parent support group for children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. She is also fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), having completed the ASL Program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, and is heavily involved in the Deaf Community in her region. She frequently attends events, delivers presentations as well as promotes and advocates for opportunities for Deaf people in her area. Kristin has a 7 year old daughter, Makiya, who was born Deaf and has two cochlear implants. Being the parent of a Deaf child has opened up a new world to Kristin and her daughter continues to inspire her every day. Kristin has a clear passion for Sport and Deaf Culture which CDSA hopes to draw upon to help her to become successful in this new role. Kristin will be 10,217 Pie IX Suite 202 Montreal North, QC H1H 3Z5 10

Terry is a former Deaflympian having competed for Canada in both Soccer and in Hockey, and is an experienced leader in the Canadian Deaf Sport System and the Deaf Community. Terry was also the Chef de Mission for Team Canada at the 2013 Summer Deaflympics in Sofia, Bulgaria - but this will be his first time in this role for the Winter Games. In his personal life, Terry resides in Vancouver, BC with his wife and 3 young children. He is a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing working for the British Columbia Provincial Outreach Program. In his role, he primarily oversees the transitions of any out of area students who attend BC School for the Deaf. Finally, CDSA is happy to announce Barbara Zbeetnoff as the Team Manager for the 2015 Deaflympics National Curling Team. Barb is an experienced National level Curler and coach, as well as a certified Coach Instructor, and licensed ASL interpreter.
