ADEA Dental Hygiene Centralized Application Service (ADEA DHCAS ) Demonstration A demonstration of the ADEA DHCAS search engine and admissions management software, WebAdMIT, will be provided. It will allow assisting and lab technology directors to develop strategies for advancing their programs. Describe various current topics affecting dental assisting and dental laboratory education. Discuss methods for program directors to implement program changes required based on current issues. SESSION 2: 10 Things That Keep Me Up at Night! Pam Zarkowski, B.S.D.H., M.P.H., J.D. University Detroit Mercy, MI This session highlights 10 21st Century challenges faced by administrators in today s allied dental education environment. Topics include students failure to comply with obligations ranging from dress codes to vaccinations, patients harassing students, conflicts and confrontations, mental health and well-being, lack of institutional and peer support, and incivility and bullying. Identify current challenges encountered in the educational environment. Discuss best practices to resolve commonly encountered challenges. This interactive panel-led session focuses on identifying the most-cited CODA Standards and potential strategies for meeting these standards. Discuss the most-cited Standards resulting in a CODA recommendation. Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) This session will be divided into three sessions: SESSION 1: CODA Policy Update (1:00 1:30 p.m.): CODA staff will provide a brief update on recent policy changes affecting allied dental accreditation and site visit processes. SESSION 2: Preparing for an Allied Accreditation Site Visit (1:30 3:30 p.m.): This session will help program directors prepare for an accreditation site visit scheduled during the academic years. Content and materials presented are determined and provided by CODA staff. Following the presentation, additional time will be available for questions. Explain why intraprofessional learning in dental education is important for preparing current and future allied dental health professionals for practice. Discuss best-practice examples of intraprofessional learning and education in practice today. Identify the current challenges to conducting intraprofessional learning and brainstorm specific strategies for mitigating them.
