Learn about choosing paints, painting surfaces and how to make the most of your tools. BALANCE IMPROVEMENT Stay steady on your feet by strengthening your core and lower body. This class will include seated and standing exercises. BALLROOM & LATIN DANCING - BEG Age: 18+ Location: ASC This stress-free introduction to the basics of Ballroom & Latin dancing can be used at dance clubs, weddings, dinner dances and more. Participants will get a taste of several dances like the cha-cha, rumba, mambo, merengue and foxtrot. This course will be taught by a couple so that participants may fully benefit from perspectives of both the leader and the follower. Prior dance experience is not necessary. Partners required. Note: *Cancelled: Oct 9 BALLROOM & LATIN DANCING INT Age: 18+ Location: ASC Focusing on dancing for fun, this program will develop dance skills and steps previously taught in the Beginners level. Some new dances will be introduced such as the waltz, swing, samba, quickstep, salsa, cumbia or bachata. This course is taught by a couple so that participants fully benefit from perspectives of both the leader and the follower. Previous dance experience are preferred for this class. Partners required. THE STORY OF MY LIFE The Story of My Life is a series of interactive sessions that will help individuals put pen to paper to produce their story. Using creative expression, fun, inspiration, reflection and share storytelling to guide writer's and non-writer's to journal their life's history. The validation of one's self is empowering and ultimately will one day be a legacy gift for family members and friends. SHOTO-Can FITNESS NEW! 6 YOGA STRETCH This class is for those who want to improve their overall flexibility, relieve the day's stress and leave feeling relaxed. This class focuses on basic stretching techniques and does not specifically follow the Hatha, Ashtanga, Lyengar or Vinyasa principles. Sign-up will be available at Reception. Healthy living Workshop We are excited to be planning a Healthy Living Workshop. This be will a three week interactive workshop at the Centre, run by staff. More News to come later in December. Shuffleboard Table The Centre has purchased a new shuffleboard table for our billiards room. Shuffleboard will be available for play during the Centre's normal operating hours. The Good Food Box We are excited to partner with the York Region Food Network to bring the Good Food Box program to our members! The Good Food Box is a box of fresh fruits & vegetables that is available for pick up once a month. Customers place their orders at the Seniors Centre on or before the 5th day of the month. Each box contains the same mix of foods, but the contents change depending on what is in season. The small box is $10 and usually contains potatoes, carrots, onions, apples and a few other items at wholesale prices. On the third Thursday of the month, customers pick up their orders, at the Centre, between 1 and 5 p.m. Brochures are available at Reception, or speak to Karie or Andrew if you have any questions. What is a gold card? The gold card is a way to prepay your 2018 activity fees. How much? The card is $100, and is valid from January 1 December 31. What does it include? Any ASA activity that is covered by the $1 daily drop in fee Membership Fee s are now Due You may renew your membership for 2018 at any time starting December 1. Tables with volunteers will be set up in the lobby during the first week in December and the first two weeks in January. After that you may renew your membership at Reception. The cost of renewing your membership is $25 for Aurora residents and $35 for anyone living outside of Aurora and exact change would be appreciated. Don t forget this is important both to you and the Aurora Seniors Association. 11 Computer Club Information and Activities for December 2017 December, the last month of The most hectic time of the year, and, the most exciting time for our grandchildren. Come in and be part of something at the Centre, and enjoy this season of joy and friendship. If you are interested in either the Windows course or the Mac course please register early! Space is limited in each class and we also need a minimum number or the class will be cancelled. This Month is a short month for the Computer Club. Computer Club meetings Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. - We continue to try and cover topics of interest to our members but as always we need your help to know what is of interest to you. Let us know. Tuesday, December 5 Windows tools in version 10 and as early as version 7: copy paste, screen shots, copying images from web sites, syncing with Android phone and more. Tuesday, December 12 Net Works. managing your home network-making your system secure and what is new with the ASA network. Is it safe to open networks found in public places? Tuesday, December 19 Apple Day with Herb and Susan. Tuesday December 26 Closed over Christmas Technology education: We will be running our Windows PC classes in Jan. and hope to be able to run the Mac class as well. Computer 2 classes covers more advanced functions such as working with photos, organizing your files & working with menus and toolbars. Mac class dates are to be determined Tuesday afternoon drop-in sessions from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Computer Room. There will be no drop in on December 19 and on December 26. These sessions are run weekly, every Tuesday, with the intent that any member who is looking for any kind of technical help can come by and we will try our best to assist. All the help we provide is covered by your payment of the $1 daily activity fee. We provide one-on-one help in these sessions. 12 Knotty Knitters A warm welcome from the Knotty Knitters. We are at the Seniors Centre from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Mondays throughout the year. We knit, embroider, crochet, laugh, and exchange jokes and family happenings. If we run into a problem on a project, we help each other out. Beginners are also quite welcome. Whatever we knit from donated wool is sold in the showcase in the lobby. All proceeds go back into supporting the Centre. Our Annual Christmas Bazaar was a huge success, due in large part to the Knotty Knitters. Winter will soon be upon us and with it comes a bit of cooler weather. Stop in and have a peek at what the Knotty Knitters have been up to this past year and perhaps treat yourself to a warm shawl or sweater. Perhaps a lap blanket for those long, leisurely drives to view those beautiful natural snow sculptures. The hugs and smiles are always free and lasting friendships are formed. So feel free to stop in at any time and stay for a look and chat. If you see something one of the Knotty Knitters is making and wish to purchase it you can do so as well. We love to talk. If you wish to joins us please do. You will be more than welcome. Remember we are not strangers only friends you have not yet met. Walking Group Walks planned for December: Walks are held on Wednesday mornings and are about an hour in length. All walks are on trails in and around Aurora. The terrain may be hilly (as is much of Aurora) and participants should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. We meet each week at 9:30 a.m. at the Seniors Centre and car pool to the starting location, if necessary. No pre-registration is required, just show up.
