3 Messages The AMT Council held our Spring meeting February 28 and March 1, It was a very busy and productive meeting. Make plans to attend this year s National Meeting. The upcoming National Meeting and Educational Seminar to be held in Pittsburgh, PA on July 8th-12 th was the focus of much of our meeting. This year s seminar continues our effort to provide you with a more concise meeting that maintains the high quality educational opportunities to which we have become accustomed. This years meeting will be held at the Omni William Penn Hotel. This hotel chain has some wonderful guest perks available to those who sign up for their Omni Select Program. This can be done when making your reservations on their web site at your leisure. (Complimentary Wi-Fi service; Complimentary Morning Beverage Delivery Coffee, Tea or Soft Drink; Complimentary Pressing of two items; Choice of Free Nights or Airline Miles; Complimentary Bottled water on night of arrival; Complimentary Shoeshine; Complimentary Newspaper of your Choice daily; Evening Housekeeping Service including Turndown; and Customized Room Preferences) Remember: You must register for the Omni Select Guest Program beforehand in order to receive the above-mentioned amenities. When you make your hotel reservation, do take the time to register for the Omni Select Guest Program as well. Members and their family and friends who join them on this trip will find many cultural and sight seeing opportunities to enjoy in the Pittsburgh area before and after the meeting, and during their free time. Room rate is $119/night plus 14% taxes, valid from July 2 nd - July 15 th. It was announced at our meeting that the 2014 National Meeting will be held July 7 th -11 th, 2014 in Chicago, IL at the Drake Hotel. For those of you who have been wishing for an exotic meeting location, your wishes have been granted for We will be meeting in late June 2015 at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel in Kohala Coast, Hawaii. Now is the time to start saving and plan for what will prove to be a wonderful time. I wish for all of you a wonderful Spring meeting. We have just hosted the Carolinas Clinical Connection for The event was chaired by Charles Baker. It was held at Springmaid Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC and was a great success. 4 Do you know the greatest threats to men s health? The list is surprisingly short and prevention pays off. Consider this top seven list of men s health threats, complied from statistics provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other leading organizations to reflect men s health risks in the United States. Then get serious about reducing your risks! #1: Heart Disease Heart disease is a leading men s health threat. Take charge of heart health by making healthier lifestyle choices. #2: Cancer Various types of cancer are of particular concern to men, including lung cancer, - skin Lorem cancer, Ipsum prostate cancer and colorectal cancer. To reduce the risk of cancer, consult your doctor for regular cancer screenings. #3 Accidents Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of fatal accidents among men. #4 Chronic Lower Respiratory Diseases Chronic lung conditions which include bronchitis and emphysema also are a concern for men. #5 Stroke You can t control some stroke risk factors such as family history, age and race but you can control other contributing factors. #6 Type II Diabetes Type II Diabetes the most common type of diabetes affects the way your body uses blood sugar (glucose). Poorly controlled diabetes can lead to heart disease, eye problems, nerve damage and other complications. #7 Suicide Suicide is another leading men s health risk. An important risk factor for suicide among men is depression such as feelings of sadness or unhappiness and loss of interest in normal activities Consult your doctor. The Bottom Line Understanding health risks is one thing. Taking action to reduce your risks is another. Start with healthy lifestyle choices eating a healthy diet, staying physically active, quitting smoking, getting regular checkups and taking precautions in your daily activities. Charles Baker, MT - Chair We held our Spring Business Meeting and our Spring Board Meeting while at Carolinas Clinical Connection. Membership continues to grow. Our total membership is now at 1104 members and still climbing. I hope that all of you will consider getting active in the South Carolina Chapter. We need your help for continued success and development. Get on board and let s make this another great year. The AMT 75 th Educational Program and National Meeting will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 8-12, We will be staying at the Omni William Penn Hotel at the downtown location. AMT attendees will receive a 15% discount in all hotel restaurants. There are many restaurants and shopping within walking distance of the hotel. You should all make plans to go. It is always a great meeting and a time to visit with members from all over. Once you go to one National Meeting, you will want to go every year. It is like a big family reunion. This is a great opportunity to get those needed CEUs and have fun at the same time. Hope to see you all there!
