We gathered to support our Kiwanis Florida District Clubs by collecting donations from our members and our foundation account. This money will be used to help the children in their community. Much gratitude to those who participated in this outreach. We sent $ See the quote below from the Kiwanis Florida District. On behalf of all the Kiwanis Clubs and members, in our fine state of Florida, we want to thank you and your fellow Kiwanis members in California, for your generosity. It is very thoughtful of you and your club to extend a helping hand, to those in Florida, who are still very much recuperating from the terrible devastation of this storm, stated Maria Doss, representing the Kiwanis Florida District Clubs. Special thanks to all of you who participate in BUGs and K-Kids. That is what we are all about. Together, we can make great things happen for the children in our community. We are approaching the season for distribution of food needed for our families at Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School and the Salt Mine. I know as a club we will put our best efforts into obtaining food for those less fortune. Our goal is make 40 Thanksgiving Baskets. Our K-Kids are leading this effort and have requested our support. Think of gathering friends together to support this effort. A list of needed items are listed in this newsletter. Our goal is to collect food by November 15 th. Salt Mine is picking up boxes on November 17 th. Just a reminder, our December 6 th Meeting will be at my home. Beverages will be provided. Please bring an appetizer to share. 3 October 2017 Page First Street Elementary School Safety Awareness Day Contributed by Christine Cirrone Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills volunteers were joined by the Lincoln Police Department, Roseville Police Department K-9 Unit, Lincoln Fire Department, California Highway Patrol Auburn Area, Community Emergency Response Team from Lincoln Hills, California Operation Lifesaver and Union Pacific Railroad conducted Safety Awareness Day at First Street Elementary School. With the support of Principal Ruben Ayala, the teachers and staff and student Roadrunners Club, the event ran perfectly and these 420 children of our community enjoyed entertaining, interactive and educational lessons for their personal, home and school safety. To reinforce the important lessons of Safety Awareness Day a contest was created to get the kids to think about all they had learned. Each classroom will design posters about the day. The posters will be judged for creativity and the number of safety tips mentioned. The winning poster class will be treated to an ice cream party courtesy of our Club!

6 October 2017 Page 6 Placer Food Bank A Member of Feeding America Serving El Dorado, Nevada and Placer Counties Our October Kiwanis One Day Community Outreach Contributed by Mary Luciano Can you image leaving school on Friday and wondering if you will have food to eat for the weekend. The children in our community who are at the poverty level or below face this every weekend. The Placer Food Bank provides meals for up to four schools in Placer County. It cost $10 per child per weekend. Our own Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School is not part of this program due to lack of funds. It is hard to realize that we have students that don t have enough food for the weekends. We are very lucky to have the Placer Food Bank that works with the poorest schools. Hopefully, our Coppin Elementary School will be included in the future. As we fill bags to feed children in our community who do not have food for the weekends, we realized the amount of children in our community who still need help. Right now, the best that we can do is help the Placer Food Bank by filling food bags for the schools that have been selected. We left the Placer Food Bank with a sense of accomplishment we bagged 727 lbs. of food to be given to children for weekend meals. Yet, another part of us felt a feeling of sadness knowing we couldn t support all of the children in our community. After saying that, I also felt we were starting to fill the gap. We can make a difference in the lives of the children, step by step. If you get an opportunity to volunteer at the Placer Food Bank, take it.

8 October 2017 Page 8 Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School - BooGrams K-Kids Boo Grams Were a Big Hit: Contributed by Mary Luciano Our K-Kids at Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School held their first fundraiser. Ghosts were made with Dum Dums (Lollipops) wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a black string, then taped to a BooGram. For 25 cents you could send a Classmate, Teacher or Parent a Boo Gram that was delivered on Halloween to the classroom. As part of their service project, they formed a committee to organize the Fundraiser. Th Fundraiser Committee was led by Connor, Co-President. Their Goal was set at making $100. The money raised will be used for the school or for Thanksgiving Food Baskets. K-Kids will vote at the next meeting. This was a great activity for the kids. They got familiar with selling an item, teaching kids how to fill out the Boo- Grams and collecting and counting money. After each shift, we counted quarters and rolled them up. Twenty-seven K-Kids and three Kiwanis Advisors, Kathy Shaddox, Michael Luciano, and Mary Luciano, participated in this fundraiser. The K-Kids exceeded their goal. After expenses, K-Kids made $ Congratulations to all the K-Kids who participated. Check out some of the pictures.

10 October 2017 Page Halloween Party Contributed by Beth Roberts WOW that party was so fun. For those of you that weren't able to make it we: Started by Decorating the Room When the kids arrived they Decorated Halloween Bags. The kids really got into it with lots of stickers and beautiful coloring. Then we made Tissue Ghosts over Tootsie Roll Pops - very cute. Then we played Halloween Bingo (thanks to Jennifer for a fantastic idea). We thought the kids might need help but they got into it immediately and we played until all the cards were completely filled with prizes at each Round. Then snacks - of course - Jennifer brought Halloween Cupcakes and Juice. And finally Trick-or-Treating. We had 4 Stations(2 Candy, 1 Bubbles, and 1 Bouncy Ball Eyeballs. Every kid went home with a bag of candy and lots of other goodies... It was a GREAT TIME Thanks to everyone - what a team - what a great group of kids...
