1 FMC MOVE....1 Fall 2016 TRAVEL & ACCESS... 2 Finance D E S I G N E D T O K E E P Y O U I N F O R M E D O F N EW S A N D HALLOWEEN SPIRIT E V E N T S I N T H E D I V I S I O N O F F I N A N C E flash Risk Management and Investment Services Move to FMC Tower Risk Management staff members pictured above in FMC Tower Two Division of Finance departments recently moved out of the Franklin Building and into the new FMC Tower at Cira Centre South, located at 2929 Walnut Street. Investment Services moved on August 27th and Risk Management followed shortly after on September 12th. Both groups are settling into their new offices and enjoying the new space. Peg Heer, Associate Treasurer, says The place is wonderful. The best part is the bathrooms always work. Seriously, it is nice having everyone we work with in the same building, Office of the General Council, Investments and Central Development. Investment Services is located in Suite 300 and Risk Management is in Suite 460. We are still unsure who will occupy the open spaces in the Franklin Building, but will communicate updates to DoF department leaders when decisions have been made. 2 Global Support Services Participates in Travel Symposium On August 3, 2016, the offices of Travel Expense Management (TEM) and Global Support Services (GSS) hosted a Travel Symposium highlighting the many travel resources available on campus. Held in Huntsman Hall, the halfday event was geared towards the Penn travel community arrangers, approvers, business administrators, financial staff, and frequent travelers. More than 150 participants attended and a 50+ waiting list was able to view a video recording of the event. The packed program included Penn s preferred vendors, World Travel, CIBT Visas, and other travel industry professionals discussing international and domestic booking, visa processing, and credit card fraud. The presenters engaged the audience with higher-ed specific travel scenarios when booking for faculty, students, and staff. Each vendor provided best practices and provided pointers on how to maximize their respective services. In addition, participants learned tips and tricks from their Penn peers during a school/center panel and a session on 50 Travel Tips in 30 Minutes conducted by TEM Director, Hilary Easley. Penn s Director of International Risk Management, Jaime Molyneux discussed international travel safety and Penn s International SOS membership. Participants to the Travel Symposium did not leave empty handed. All who attended received goodie bags filled with promotional travel materials and three staff members won raffled prizes, such as gift cards and complementary hotel accommodations! During the Travel Symposium, GSS organized concurrent onsite U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Global Entry interviews, also a sold-out experience with 60 members of the Penn Community able to receive their interview on campus versus the Philadelphia airport. GSS and TEM were very pleased with the overall response to the travel symposium and hope to host again in the future. For those who were not able to attend, the Travel Symposium s presentations and videos have been posted at Penn Students Talk Access with SRFS During a lunch sponsored by the Office of Government and Community Affairs, members of the Philadelphia legislative delegation heard first-hand from five Penn students, including three Philadelphia Mayor s Scholars, about the impact of educational access. Philadelphians in the Class of 2020 received more than $6.55 million in undergraduate financial aid, with an average aid package of close to $56,000. Associate Vice President of Financial Services, Dr. Michelle Brown-Nevers and Director of Communications, Karen Hamilton, who is a Mayor s Scholar alumna, gave an update on the University s progress in supporting local students and reinforced how this support is good for the communities represented by the delegation, good for Penn, and good for Philadelphia. 2

3 Calling all Ghosts and Goblins.ORS and SRFS Celebrate Halloween! On Friday, October 28th the Franklin Building s 2nd floor and annex was transformed into a spooky Halloween wonderland thanks to the very creative Finance staff in ORS and SRFS. Dressed up in their adorable costumes, children of Finance staff members attended the 2nd annual trick-or-treating extravaganza which took place from 3-5pm. The elaborately decorated halls and offices were filled with tons of candy and delicious treats for the kids (and adults) to enjoy!
