SOLDER JOINTS. Brian Chan Warning: Not all factory new means good! CASTLE GIANT SCALE FLY-IN Brian Chan A few of the PCC members made the trip to the Castle airport to witness the giant scale models and pilots doing their thing. Also to see if we can pick up a few bargains! This is a 4mm connector on a Lipo battery purchased from a famous online hobby store. Since the pack came with a different connector than the ones I am using, I decided to change it by de-soldering the connectors that came with the pack. Most of the time, I just cut the connector off. I am glad I did not cut it off this time! Now I have a show and tell! After I removed the wires, I noticed that there was not much soldered area between the wires and the connector, less than 10% of the solder cup had solder on it! and may be about 20% of the wires have solder on them. The rest of the solder cup and wires are clean! You can have the best battery, best connector. If you soldering job is not up to par, you are not getting the power through!! I wish there is an easy way to check the soldering job on all the connectors, I don t know any other sure way to check without disassembling the connector first! Keep an eye on the connectors, if the connector gets hot, my educated guess would be a bad solder joint or a ill-fitted connector! Gary, Jake, Ken, Dave smiled for the camera. Flight line. A beautiful Focke-Wulf Fw 190 just landed. 3
Beautiful Grumman F7F Tigercat on final. Jason's A-10 taking off. Look at the size of the Tigercat. It is BIG! Jason's A-10 in flight. Lew is helping Jason prior to Jason's giant Fairchild Republic A-10 thunderbolr "Warthog" takes flight. Another beautiful model, a Mitsubishi Zero. 4
Not all he plane made it home safely. VISITING GOLD COUNTRY FLYER Brian Chan The pit area with shades and starting tables. I have a chance to visit with the Gold Country Flyers in Ione, California. Aerial view of GCF field. Pathed runway is 20' x 300'. I was there on a weekday, to meet up with a friend who is aerotowing scale glider. So there were only a handful of pilots there. My friend Dan has a 50% scale Ka-6 glider with 7.5 meter (295") wingspan. And also met up with a couple friends that I did not know who also fly with the GCF club. The flying site is pretty remote, but only a few miles from the City of Ione. You can see the cooling towers of the Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station (decommissioned) in a distance. I took a few photos of the flying site with my Phantom 4. The field layout, the yellow plane is 7.5 meter in span. 5
Pit and runway. Trophy wall! Next Meeting: Peter's Cafe 10 El Camino Real, Millbrae June 20th, :30 pm Remember do not park in the front parking lot Summer is here, and so does the fog! 6
Wasp nest under the table removed. Bob, Ladybug and Jim. What's left of the hive! The pit area is free of wasps, for now! Three of the many Ray's we have in PCC! We will not accept any more Ray as new PCC member! Bob with his recently acquired Radian glider. Jason's P51B on final. 7
Latest new members, father and son, they are members of SCCMAS. Welcome. Dave is fixing the fence post. Here is one of their planes. Fixed! Well at least it is standing straight up! JUST ONE MORE Ray, Cruz, Robert and Lew, something serious is happening here! Handy work by the mowing team. I was told Crop circles will be next! 8
Warbirds by the Bay July 15, 2018 All Era Warbirds! Gas! Glow! Electric! Electric flying starts at 7AM Gas and Glow at 9AM Sorry, no turbines E-flite Ultra Micro Warbird Racing!
