1 Marby News Maribyrnong Park Football Club MARBY PLAYER MAKES AFL GRAND FINAL Our very own Rory Atkins had a great year with Adelaide, reaching 50 games, polling 10 Brownlow Medal votes and playing in an AFL Grand final. While the result didn't go their way it was great to see Rory out there. Maybe 2018 will bring them a better result. Anyway we came across this old photo from a few years ago of two players, one who is a dead set legend and one who is going to be a legend of Marby and hopefully the AFL in years to come. See if you can work out who they are, and yes that is a Brownlow medal around the neck of one of them. EDFL AWARDS Just as our U19s were almost finished celebrating their Premiership win, the EDFL presentation night on Thursday 28 September was upon us.

Senior Coach of the Year The first award for the club was Robbie Costello named NWAFCA (North West Australian Football Coaches Association) Senior Coach of the Year.

Thirds B & F Jordan Harrison was next up, runner up Best and Fairest for the senior Thirds competition. Reserves B & F In Premier Reserves, Ed Pearson was equal third B&F.

2 EDFL AWARDS Just as our U19s were almost finished celebrating their Premiership win, the EDFL presentation night on Thursday 28 September was upon us. With three players and our senior coach Robbie all invited, Marby had a big contingent heading off to the night to celebrate the edfl season, and what a night we had. Senior Coach of the Year The first award for the club was Robbie Costello named NWAFCA (North West Australian Football Coaches Association) Senior Coach of the Year. U19s Mark Thompson Medal for the Best and Fairest Our U19 captain George Abboud was declared winner of the Mark Thompson Medal for the Best and Fairest player for premier Division Under 19s. Thirds B & F Jordan Harrison was next up, runner up Best and Fairest for the senior Thirds competition. Reserves B & F In Premier Reserves, Ed Pearson was equal third B&F. Dick Reynolds Medal for Best and Fairest for Premier Division Seniors Then it was time for the main award for the night, the Dick Reynolds Medal for the Best and Fairest for Premier Division Senior competition. After 17 rounds, our very own Zac Keogh was 3 votes in front, with only one challenger in Jaryd Cachia from Strathmore. At best we would have the winner, at worst a joint winner. As the votes were read out for Round 18, Jaryd Cachia scored 3 votes. In the last game we had lost to Aberfeldie by 24 points so there wasn t a great amount of confidence that Zac would win outright, but there it was, Z Keogh 1 vote, after 7 games where Zac had scored 3 votes, a 1 vote in the last game was enough to give him the outright win and our first Reynolds medallist since Heath Ayres won back to back medals in 2008 & To say there was a bit of noise was an understatement and Zac celebrated a great first year with the club in winning the award. Congratulations to all of the other winners on the night, and the EDFL for putting on a great way to celebrate the year, and well done to our guys on their performances for the year. 2

With past player Matt Pillios hosting for the night everyone enjoyed a great meal, drinks, all of the awards, two new life members inducted, some dancing and music from DJ Rob Arnold, and plenty of fun with the photo booth. Congratulations to all the award winners and a big thanks to everyone who helped organise the night including Vicki Lee and Briony Lanigan. 5 Life Members Announced During the senior best and fairest night two very longstanding servants of Marby were inducted as Life Members. Luke Di Pietro Luke has been a club Secretary, Vice President and President. As well as being a past player, for the past five years Luke has also ben an integral part of the senior on field group, managing players and contracts, opposition analysis, and a senior assistant coach. I addition Luke has also run a number of functions including arranging Sportmen s Night and Reverse Raffles for a number of years. There isn t much around the club that Luke hasn t done. Michael Micky T Tamburro Micky was a junior player at Marby many years ago and played in an Under 10 premiership. After giving the game away Micky came back to club over 10 years ago to help out a couple of old team mates and has been an integral part of the club ever since. Micky joined the committee and soon took over the Treasurer role and has played a huge part in guiding the club through some good and not so good financial times, but whatever the situation, through Micky s hard work and dedication we always know where we are and what is needed to ensure the club is in the best position it can be and puts in an enormous amount of time at the club, not only fulfilling his role as Treasurer but also helping out with the bar when needed, locking up of a night time after making sure everyone is on their way home, and has also been a team manager and helped out with anything else that is needed. Both Luke and Micky have been part of the reason the club is such a great place and the honour of being awarded Life Membership is a just reward for their input over a long time and congratulations to both on their award.
