Riseley DISTRICT 9520 GOVERNOR: Bob Cooper PRESIDENT: Di Clements SECRETARY: Peter Anderson Last Meeting Details Meeting No Date: 20 th September 2017 Meeting Details: Rotary Information night Month of October Focus: Economic and Community Development Month Di Clements (President) welcomed guests; Christel, Mark, Javad, Robyn, Noelene, Gabrielle, Alison RYLA attendee, Kang, Foorough, Helene, Meron, and Rey. Apologies from club members included; Noel Lindsay, Nilam Saly, Joanne Manuel, Will Bragg, Clare Horton, Andreina Adames, Haven't heard from George Stubbs at this point. Gail Casey (Community Director) spoke about the different projects Rotary Norwood are involved in. She began by discussing an event today, where club members assisted organising morning tea for Norwood Primary School to celebrate their 140 th Anniversary. Members provided scones and left over s were provided to St Vinnies to feed those i n need. Gail discussed an upcoming project Lift the Lid occurring Saturday the 7 th and Sunday the 8 th which will be informing people of all backgrounds on mental health issues and supports. Club Meeting Information: Fortnightly Evenings:6:00pm for 6:30pm start - 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday of each month at: The Kensington Hotel Fortnightly Social Lunch: 1:00pm start - 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at:manto Café PO Box 3588, Norwood SA 5067 rotarynorwood@outlook.com

Want to know more about the Canadian tours running in June next year? Come down to Meeting 4 October 2017 To brief the club on Lift the lid which is an initiative of Rotary Health. Presentation to also include other Mental Health information/educational material October Purple HouseArt Auction to raise money for a Dialysis Machine at Ernabella. The actual auction is on 15 October but they need assistance on all three days. Early November Latin Fundraising Party (Location TBC) Proceeds going towards the Bolivia TIA Education project. Volunteers. Gail discussed Purple House Art Auction project for the 15th October where proceeds go to raise funds for a new dialysis machine. She discussed Rotary Norwood s Signature community project coming up on the 25th November which involves Norwood Christmas pageant float marshalling and this year, the construction of a Rotary float. Norwood Rotary will be also looking to support a Women's Walk for International Women's Day this coming March. Regular community involvements have included supporting the local Salvation Army with Red Shield Appeal collection and Austerity Night which also raises funds for Operation Flinders. Paul Wade (International Director) explained that he has been a member for 6 years, and Norwood club has sponsored his project in Myanmar for treatment of club foot in those 6 years by sponsoring $15000 for restoring clinic with air conditioning, medical supplies, as well as a member of the club donating money from his own orgaisation. In Myanmar 1000 per year have club foot, and we treat 250 children per year, hoping that this will grow in the future. Norwood rotary also sponsor a Fiji water and sanitation project, Peru Project to support medical and dental care in 4 villages, NGO in Bolivia for training workshops for orphans to transition into adult life, girls school in India with repairs to the building and many more. Generally they are small projects, but they reach the people that need to. All international projects will work with rotary clubs local to the community to support the project in getting off the ground and running effectively. at Glenelg onfriday 6th October to find out!

His goal was to mix with professionals from other businesses, grow his legal practice and do good in the community. He explained the meeting schedule of the club and the flexibility it has for members that live already busy lives. He listed Youth projects that Norwood Rotary is involved in including; Sponsor a high school for the e-challenge National Youth Science Forum sponsorship The Science Experience You Exchange, hosting, counseling and sponsoring (very recently a student from Germany who was very active in the community raising money for ShelterBox Australia) Rotary Youth Leadership Award (for 18 to 25yr olds) an internationally recognized youth program in Rotary Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment, a weekend program for 14 to 17yr olds Indigenous Health Scholarship sponsorship Rotary has played a large part in the eradication of Polio and to date there are only cases in Pakistan and Afghanistan where children still have polio. This has been a Multimillion dollar program where Bill and Melinda Gates have been involved and donated extra money into the organisation. He also discussed the opportunities to travel and the Rotary International Conventions that run each year.
