2 Chapter Update For our MAY 3, 2018 STUDENT NIGHT we had four members of the MacSmiths, the student run blacksmithing club at McMaster University talk to a number of high school students, their teachers, and parents. Eric Tenuta, Paul Tallon, Dan Hallatt, and Dan Osario reeked of enthusiasm and energy as they described A) What is Materials Science, B) Why it s so amazingly cool, C) Why they formed the MacSmiths and built a sword for the 2017 TMS Sword Making competition, and D) Details of the sword making process, including building their forge. I think they did a superb job of letting the students and teachers know why Materials Science is a worthy Engineering discipline, in a fun and offbeat way. Our next meeting is our annual Golf Outing, details of which appear elsewhere in this issue of Reflections- come to enjoy a great dinner and interesting company, even if you don t golf!
