May 14th Where: Central School Who: Any and all who care about our school! What: This is our annual Spring clean up day. Please bring rakes, clippers, leaf blowers, gloves etc. We will clean up the grounds and then enjoy a bite to eat. More details to follow

3 Page 3 Last day to sign up is Sunday May 4th the only way to sign up now is SparrowMilesClub.com We are walking! We are logging miles on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays thru May. The track is along the inside of the fence around the playground. Key chains and punch cards have been delivered to classroom teachers. Participants can still register, however, they will NOT get a keychain. Volunteers will be out there to punch cards, & prizes will be awarded as earned!

4 Page 4 Baker Students teach 1st graders about the heart. It is time again to Re-enroll for Kroger Community Rewards. If you are already enrolled, simply go to Click sign-in Put in your address and password that you used to enroll your card. Put in the group number or part of the name of the organization. Choose the correct organization. Click Enroll. You are now enrolled for the May 1st 2014 to April 30th 2015 year of Kroger Community Rewards. If you are having an issue with your password and or address please call KROGERS, press 5 for customer service, press 5 to speak to a customer service representative. If it is the first time you are registering, you will need to set-up an account first. To enroll your card simply go to Click create an account Put in your address and password. Confirm your password Enter plus card OR alt ID number Go to Community Rewards (near bottom) Follow through the steps. (name, address, etc.) Put in the group number or part of the name of the organization. Choose the correct organization. Click Enroll. You are now enrolled for the May 1st 2014 to April 30th 2015 year of Kroger Community Rewards.

5 The Owosso Parks Green-Up/Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday May 10th, from 10 am 2 pm. and will coincide with the city of Owosso s annual Arbor Day celebration! We will seek to clean up the brush and downed limbs that are everywhere in our parks after harsh weather and the ice storm our city endured during this past winter. The activities will start at Emerson School with a brief ceremony and oak tree planting in honor of Arbor Day. We thank Crooked Tree Nursery for partnering with us! Teams will then continue to the following parks: Bentley, Collamer/Hopkins Lake, Harmon Partridge, Grove Holman and Rosevear. The Owosso Parks Green-Up/Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday May 10th, from 10 am 2 pm. and will coincide with the city of Owosso s annual Arbor Day celebration! Central will focus on Harmon Partridge (Green Meadows) north of town. Following volunteer efforts at these parks, participants will gather together around 2:30 in the city hall parking lot and enjoy a time of food and fellowship. Community and student organizations/service clubs, churches, businesses, and residents are invited to organize teams and adopt a park for the day. If you would like to organize a team, please contact Susan Montenegro, assistant city manager/director of community development at susan.montenegro@ci.owosso.mi.us or by phone at Additionally, donations are still being accepted for our tree planting effort which will lead to 16 more oak trees being planted within Emerson Grove. YADA YADA! 1 in 3 American children is overweight or obese. 28% of kindergarteners and 42% of sixth graders are overweight or obese in Shiawassee County. Obese children are more likely to become obese adults. Being overweight or obese increases a child s lifelong risk for: type 2 diabetes high blood pressure heart attack many other debilitating diseases Diabetes is the leading cause of stroke, heart disease, kidney failure, adult blindness and amputations. For the first time in our history, children have a shorter life expectancy than their parents The average medical expenditures for people with diagnosed diabetes were 2.3 times higher than what they would be in the absence of diabetes. US Center for Disease Control (CDC) projects 40% of today's kids will be diabetic by age 60.
