1 Rotary District D9800 ROTARY CLUB OF GISBORNE Bulletin Edition 28 1 st February, 2011 LAST WEEK Service Committee Meetings Last week the Club held a Services Committee night. Although not a full meeting, much discussion followed proving, once again, this Club is 100% active. One example was the fantastic job done helping the Taurins by holding a working B to clear up after the storms. The committee representatives outlined their future expectations in a most positive manner. NEW MEMBER Patti Yarwood: Also on this night, the President Philip inducted our newest member, Patti Yarwood who has been assigned the classification of Community Support Services. Welcome to the Club, Patti. Most members know Patti to be a very industrious and enthusiastic person; she will be a great asset to the Club. Don t miss out! FOLK MUSIC FOR FLOODS In collaboration with MR Shire Council, local artist Mickey Lisieux will present a concert on Saturday 5 February in the Kyneton Town Hall, commencing 7.00 pm. Tickets are available by calling or online at - $10/adults; or $20 family. All funds raised will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Floods Appeal and the Queensland Premier s Disaster Relief Appeal. D.G. S MESSAGE It s time for Clubs to seek out and nominate a worthy recipient for the D9800 Shine On Awards, to be held on Sunday 1 st May at Deakin University. This is an outstanding program that recognises the abilities of those with a disability who, despite their own situation, help and assist others in the community. Jenelle is a well spoken lady and the presentation should be of a high value (Rotary Youth Leadership Award). NEWS FROM FELIPE Felipe has ed that he is being married on 28 th May; he is still studying hard aimed at getting a public appointment at the end of his studies. They have had floods in Brazil too, but not affecting where he lives. WORLD WETLANDS DAYS Wed. 2 nd February : see DID YOU KNOW? Rotary Health, TRAVELLERS AID PROJECT D9800 has alerted clubs to a new project of Travellers Aid Melbourne, which seeks to provide assistance to senior citizens and people with disabilities from regional Victoria with Melbourne community volunteers, when they need to come into the city for medical appointments. The volunteer will accompany the traveller to their medical appointment from Southern Cross or Flinders Street stations, wait with them while they are with the doctor and take them back to the station.
