2 Page 2 April 2017 THE PRESIDENT S WORD Congratulations to our newly elected DSC officers and Board for the year: Bill Leavitt-President, Bill Stover-Vice President, Jean Gassoway-Secretary, JoAnn Cleek-Treasurer, and board members-mary Golding, Kim Hart, Allan Nalbor and I have decided as past President to accept the board position offered to all past presidents and will serve for one more year. What a pleasant surprise that so many members were willing to run in this year s election a first in many years and we thank all who were willing to volunteer there precious time! In past years we have had difficulty filling these very important positions. We have had the opportunity to speak with members of other CMSC clubs who have mentioned similar issues with volunteers as well as how to increase membership to allow us to possibly participate in more Midwest trips which helps keep our participant numbers up and allows us to continue to receive our group rates on both Midwest and Western trips. Our board has participated in forums where other clubs shared their many ideas for ways to increase membership. One of those ideas was bike clubs and thanks to Bill Stover we welcome brothers Rich & Norm Mozer who planned to participate in two of our western trips sadly Norm had to cancel due to an injury in Snowmass. We hope he continues to heal and will be able to ski with us next year! Bill was also instrumental in answering an inquiry for 2 gals Carol & Yama who joined Duneland on CMSC Chicago Week. Word has it they tried to contact other CMSC clubs and Bill was the only one to respond! Thank you Mary Golding and Bill Stover for running a great trip! We have heard so many wonderful compliments! Thank you to Pete Resetar & Henry Bottando for running our ISC partner trip w/nomads to Boyne Highlands! We hear a great time was had by all! Coming up on Friday, May 5, 2017 is our End of the Year Awards Banquet at Casa Del Roma in Valparaiso. A time to honor those who have dedicated their time & talents to make this a great year! Thanks to Janice for planning this event she always has such great surprises for us! The DSC Board gas card give away has been a great incentive to get higher meeting participation. We have one meeting left to give away $10.00 to one lucky person. Did I mention I was the lucky one at our March meeting! Thank you Mary Golding for orchestrating that and for all the incredible goodies each meeting! We are awaiting news of our Duneland racers at the 2017 Nastar Nationals in Steamboat and will update you next month on that. Finally you are cordially invited April 17 th 2017 at 7:30 pm to Gelsosomo s in Crown Point located at S Broadway for Duneland s Last Meeting of 2016/17 Season before the new slate begins. We will have our usual board meeting and a short general meeting at 7:30 w/pizza Salad & Soda served. Any drinks other than soda will be on your own. Bring along games so if we have time we can make it a game night! We hope you will join us! Thank you to all our volunteers & members of Duneland for it is truly our membership that makes our club! Cheryl
