1 Upcoming Service Opportunities The Campus Ministry Office receives numerous community service requests from agencies throughout Western New York. Requests will be listed here. Please check back often for new upcoming service opportunities. Any of the opportunities on this list may be counted towards Footprints service hours, so students are not required to complete a placement approval form for these events. However, as always, a verification form needs to be signed by your supervisor. Name of Event nt: Town of Cheektowaga Senior Services Department Description: Volunteers are needed to help senior citizens in the community with various chores such as grass cutting, taking garbage to the curb, returning cans, cleaning, etc. Location: Various locations in Cheektowaga Date: ongoing Time: flexible How to sign up: Contact Jamie Acoff, Outreach Coordinator for the Town of Cheektowaga Senior Services Department at to have your name and phone number added to the volunteer list. The town senior citizens will then contact you when help is needed. This would be a great opportunity for students and parents to do together. Help a neighbor in need! Name of Event: St. Christopher Parish Vacation Bible School Description: Volunteers are needed to help with the annual Parish Vacation Bible School. You can be a friend and companion to the campers and service as a crew leader to help the campers enjoy the different Exploration Stations. You can also help with games, crafts, science, storytelling, and music. Location: St. Christopher Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd, Tonawanda, NY Dates: July Time: 8:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m.
2 How to sign up: Contact St. Christopher s at Name of Event: Tutor Middle School Refugee Children Description: Join Hope Refugee Services in partnership with Jericho Road Ministries in helping middle school refugee students on the West Side of Buffalo! The FLY Program (Focused Learning for Youth) is an after school program designed to give students the tools to succeed as they navigate the social and academic environment of middle school. We provide homework assistance and educational activities to help 6th though 8th grade refugee students achieve grade level mastery. FLY leaders care not only about the educational success of our students, but also seek to provide the tools for students to grow emotionally and socially. We strive to make FLY a safe and welcoming environment for our students. Tutors are essential to the success of the FLY Program! FLY runs Monday through Friday from 2:45 to 5:30. You could volunteer on a daily, weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis. Location: 184 Barton St, Buffalo, NY Dates: Mondays through Fridays Time: 2:45-5:30 p.m. How to sign up: Contact David Francis, Volunteer Coordinator, Name of Event: ZooCrew Volunteers Description: ZooCrew Volunteers support the Buffalo Zoo through their help with special events, fundraising efforts, and work projects. Community Service for High School and College Students are welcome! There will be monthly fun events celebrating "The Year of the Gorilla", the Polar Bear & other animal special events! We welcome ages 14 years and older to come and have fun helping us at the Zoo!ZooCrew Volunteers need to be articulate and presentable, enjoy working with the public, provide friendly and efficient customer service and be dependable. Name of Event: Buffalo Zoo 135 th Birthday Jamboree Description: Volunteers are needed to help with all aspects of the event: food handlers, cotton candy makers, game assistants, inventory runners, popcorn makers, radio control, ticket sellers, trash monitoring, volunteer check-in, reservists, et. Location: Buffalo Zoo enter at Gate 1; Meadow Road (Ring Road) at Colvin. Do not use the main entrance. Sunday, May 23 at the Erie Canal Harbor Central Wharf Volunteers are needed to help with the Annual Hospice Memorial Walk in the following capacities: Truck Unloaders, Registration, Theme Basket Auction, Route Help, Rest Stops, and Food. This event requires standing. There will be an informational, mandatory meeting for all registration volunteers on Thursday, May 20 at the Hospice Mitchell Campus Education Center. 2. Buffalo Marathon, Sunday, May 30 at Mile 5 of the Erie Basin Marina from 6:30 a.m. 9 a.m. Volunteers are needed to hand out water to runners. Location: see above Date: see above Time: see above How to sign up: Contact Lisa Nestico at the volunteer office at If Lisa is not available, please leave a message on her voic with your name, phone number and time preference. Lisa will call and confirm all placements. Name of Event: St. Luke s Kids of the Kingdom Summer Camp. Description: Spend time with the children at this great camp! Fun activities including trips to the Buffalo Zoo, Beaver Island Beach, and the Explore & More Museum are planned nearly every day. They have about students, ages 3-12 who participate in this camp, so they can use all the help they can get! One training session is required for all volunteers and they will be held at St. John Kanty on Friday, June 25 from a.m. or on Monday, June 28 from a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to commit to at least one week whenever possible to establish continuity in working with the children. Location: Saint John Kanty Church, 101 Swinburne Street, Buffalo, NY Date: Mondays Thursdays, July 6 th July 29th Time: 8:30 a.m. 2:10 p.m. How to sign up: Contact Geno, the camp director, at

Depending on the need at the time you could be tearing down a house, drywalling, painting, etc. Make sure you dress to get dirty! Volunteers must be at least 16 years old! They are looking for interested girls who love soccer and would like to be a part of this important experience. You will run alongside a child as they are learning to ride a bike and provide physical support and encouragement. Name of Event: Boys and Girls Club of Buffalo AkidEMY Awards Event Description: Volunteers are needed to help them set up, tear down, and also help out during the event, which is like the Academy Awards for Kids! Location: Town Ballroom, Buffalo, NY Dates and Times: The date is June 25th from 5-9. Set up will be Thursday 6-24 from 1-6 p.m. (shifts are available also 1-3 p.m. or 3-6 p.m.), and Friday 6-25 from 2-5 p.m. Tear down is on the 6-25 from 9-11 p.m. During the event you could volunteer the whole time, 5-9 p.m. or pick a shift from 5-7 p.m. or 7-9 p.m. How to sign up: Contact Jennifer Mickens, Boys and Girls Club Office Manager, at Name of Event: Monkey See Monkey Do Children s Bookstore Summer Programs Description: They are looking for volunteers to help with their many week and day summer camps. Many of their programs revolve around literacy, but they also offer cooking and science camps among other things. Their camps run all summer and they also have many other events planned and could use volunteers to help out at any of their events or camps. Their programs are offered typically to elementary schoolage children. There are MANY ways to get involved and do some service work with them!
