1 July-August 2016 Ohio Lions E-Newsletter Council Chairman IPDG Benn Cosgray and Lion Kathy NEW MOUNT TAINS TO CLIMB First off I would like to say THANK YOU to the new District Governors for extending me the honor of being your Council Chair. I did not attend the International Convention in Japan this yearr but will be attending the upcoming USA/Canada Leadership Forum in Omaha and nextt year s convention in Chicago. I hope to see several of the Ohio Lions att both events. If you have never been to a forum, you should really consider going. It is a great experience. You get to attend excellent leadership seminars and to meet and renew friendships with Lions from both Constitutional Area 1 and from around the world. The same holds for International Conventions, however, the International is more social than instructional. I am working on my schedule for this year and plan on attending at least one of each District Governor s cabinet meetings. Also, please inform me of Charter Nights and anniversaries. As of June 30, 2015 MD 13 had 12,399 members and as of June 30, 2016 MD 13 had 12,167 members was another loss in members for Ohio. We are down 232 members. Let s all help our GMTs in andd bring in new members and clubs. It is in all of our best interests to expand membership so that we can serve more. I will close with the same tag lines I have used in the past several years in my district articles. It is good for all to remember when CLIMBING THE MOUNTAINS. Dream Big and Believe. 2 LIONS FISHING ON LAKE ERIE July 2016 The bidding at the State Convention s first ever Auction for the 2018 USA/Canada Forum was going hot and furious. The Fishing Charter donated by DG Dan O Connor of District 13K drew several bidders and in the end two PDG s and two current DG s got the gavel to sound. Now What to Do? Captain Dan, of D O C Charters, led the guys to a date that would hopefully be a good fishing day. The charter was for 6 people plus Captain (IPDG) Dan. The group consisted of PDG Tom Zickefoose, PDG Bill Schultz, IPDG Bob Allgood, CC Ben Cosgray, Tom s Son Josh and a friend Mark. July 10 th was chosen and it turned out to be a great day for fishing. The day was sunny skies and 85 degrees with just a little wind. We boated out about 12 miles from Port Clinton and began fishing. We were within 4 miles of Canada s part of the lake and we could see power plants in Michigan. We all fished for about 7 hours and caught fish. Not all were keepers but 24 of the walleyes made it over the 15 inch limit with several in the inch size. The others were catch and release and included small walleyes, white perch, yellow perch, sheepshead and catfish. The keepers weighed in at 31 pounds and were divided evenly between the fishermen. Thanks to Carmella's Cafe for providing the food and for all who supported us!

10 1st VDG of 13 OH4 and Calcutta Lions member Wayne Christen ran the auction at the council of governors meeting this evening in Columbus. The proceeds went to pilot dogs and they raised over $ !

11 CHICKEN BAR-B-Q AT OLD-FASHIONED DAY, PART OF LAKE TOWNSHIP'S BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION: The Hartville Lions Club is again having its famous, tasty Chicken Barbecue on Saturday, September 10, from 11 am UNTIL WE ARE SOLD OUT. Dinners include delicious barbecued 1/2-chicken, baked potato, cole slaw, roll, butter, sour cream, and dessert. Only a limited number of dinners are available. Tickets are $12 each. Advance purchase is strongly recommended. Tickets may be ordered and picked up at Best Bib and Tucker ( ), Mel's Barber Shop ( ), the Edward Jones office of Trent Hershman ( ), the Hartville Lions Dunk Tank at the Uniontown Festival, July 27-30, or from a member of the Hartville Lions Club.

12 The Gallipolis Lions Club helped with Kids Day at the River Rec Festival on July 4th. The Club held a sack race, a frog jumping contest, and a terrapin race.
