2 The Trainers Nurture Develpment is a training and cnsultancy rganisatin that wrks with interested grups wh want t learn mre abut ABCD. We are the nly strategic partners f the ABCD Institute in Eurpe. Our cre team is: Crmac Russell is a respected scial innvatr, authr, adviser and keynte speaker. He is a recgnised leader in the Asset-Based Cmmunity Develpment mvement, and a faculty member f the Asset-Based Cmmunity Develpment Institute. Over the last 20 years Crmac has wrked in ver 30 cuntries arund the wrld. He is passinate abut the prliferatin f cmmunity-driven change and citizen-centred demcracy, and has supprted hundreds f cmmunities t make ABCD visible thrugh what he calls ABCD Neighburhd Learning Sites. His mtt, paraphrasing Benjamin Franklin, is: When it cmes t Cmmunity Building, well dne is better than well said. Shaun Burnett is the mst recent additin t the Nurture Develpment team. He balances his time between mentring cmmunity building initiatives and practising as a cmmunity builder clser t hme in Nrth Ayrshire, Sctland. He has a passin fr cmmunity-driven change, in particular, hw cmmunities harness and nurture the energy f yung peple t drive change. With a varied backgrund, Shaun's previus experiences include stabilisatin at a lcal level in Afghanistan and yuth wrk in varius settings including wrking with yung peple with disabilities. His experience t date has left him with the firm ntin that 'the wise need the yung, as much as the yung need the wise.' Paul Macey has delivered presentatins, trainings and wrkshps acrss the UK in places such as the Isle f Wight, Bangr and Ayrshire. Paul has been a Cmmunity Builder in Crydn Vluntary Actin fr ver fur years. His wrk in Crydn has played a majr part in a range f cmmunity-driven activities, including the annual Thrntn Heaths Arts Week and the Valley Park Healthy Living Space. Paul has been a Cmmunity Develpment Wrker fr ver 25 years. He has wrked as an equalities cnsultant, a trainer, and a jurnalist. He has als written fr publicatins that include The Vice, The Guardian and The Independent. Jennine Bailey has been mentred by Crmac Russell since 2010 and she nw mentrs and caches ther Cmmunity Builders in areas such as Cirencester, Thurrck and Matsn. Jennine has delivered training sessins and wrkshps fr cmmissiners, cuncils and vluntary sectr rganisatins. She has als wrked as a Cmmunity Builder in varius ABCD initiatives with Crydn Vluntary Actin. Her wrk in the West Crydn Scial Recvery initiative develped a mvement f citizen-led actin, lauded by the Greater Lndn Authrity as a huge success. She is als a Directr f Success Thrugh Art, which wrks t supprt children and yung peple t gain qualificatins thrugh the arts.

Crmac cntinues t wrk with Prfessr Jhn McKnight and ther members f the ABCD Institute faculty n the nging develpment f the apprach. We have a cnceptual and n-the-grund understanding f ABCD that ensures that we can advise and train at bth plicy and practice levels. We are established trainers in bth the UK and abrad During 2015 we delivered ver 100 wrkshps and keyntes t 10,000+ peple. We have wrked n a diverse range f subject matters, including public safety, public health, inclusin, children and yung peple, lder peple, scial care, cmmunity husing, prisn refrm, recvery and many thers besides. All f ur wrkshps are infrmed by what we are learning in neigburhds thrughut the UK and beynd, where we have spent several years wrking side by side with practitiners and lcal residents. We understand what wrks (and what desn t): Since 1996 we have built up practical knwledge and experience in the implementatin f ABCD and ther strengths-based appraches in Eurpe, Africa and Nrth America. We have had successes and failures and believe in sharing ur learning frm bth. There is n ne right way t d ABCD and we have learned, thrugh experience, hw t navigate the different sci-plitical envirnments. We are ding it in a brad range f cmmunities acrss the UK tday. Currently, as well as delivering wrkshps, we are wrking directly with Cmmunity Builders, lcal residents and cmmissiners t fcus n what is strng, nt what is wrng. This allws us t bring real examples and stries f hw ABCD is wrking in a wide variety f cmmunities. Learning by ding Our wrkshps are dynamic and interactive. We believe that peple change their lives by ding, nt by passively listening, and ur wrkshps reflect that belief. They will share their stries and experiences and advise yu n what makes up gd practice and hw t help bring abut deep and sustainable change. Illustrate ways f supprting yung Cmmunity Builders t becme invlved and learn the craft f Cmmunity Building. Identify prcesses fr wrking ethically t relcate authrity and pwer. Prvide a practical pack f ABCD tls fr use in yur wrk. What will yu be able t d? Yu will have a better understanding f the practical applicatin f ABCD and hw t put ABCD int actin in living neighburhds in a way that is respectful f the lcal cntext; and ultimately create safer, healthier, mre ecnmically and envirnmentally vibrant places t live. Yu will be able t use what s strng in the neighburhd where yu live and/r wrk t deal with what s wrng, but als make what s strng, strnger.
