6 2018 FAN GUIDE PUBLIC EVENTS >>> Sunday, December 23 Big Game Show presented by Mike and Judy McCarthy Shreveport Municipal Auditorium - Doors Open 5:15 p.m. Show Begins 5:30 p.m. Tickets - $5 Before the teams take to the gridiron on December 27, they will have to battle it out in the Big Game Show. Coaches and players from both teams will compete in an array of game show-style competitions, and the audience will have a chance to participate too! Monday, December 24 FCA Breakfast Shreveport Convention Center - 7:30 a.m. Tickets - $10 The annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Breakfast is presented each year for the participating teams and their coaching and administrative staffs. Hosted by the NWLA FCA Chapter, this event annually hosts more than 500 guests, offering breakfast, and featured speakers who give their personal testimonies. Wednesday, December 26 Pub Crawl Downtown Shreveport - 5 p.m. Locations: Various locations in downtown Shreveport. Stay tuned to Facebook and Instagram (@IndyBowl) for details! Mardi Gras Preview Parade & Pep Rally Louisiana Boardwalk through Downtown Shreveport - 6 p.m. The FREE Mardi Gras Preview Parade will be bigger and better than ever, featuring the bands, cheerleaders and mascots from each team, as well as Mardi Gras floats and other festivities down the main street of the Boardwalk and through Downtown Shreveport. Each team s band will play in the Pep Rally to lead into the Block Party concert in the Red River District! Block Party Red River District - 8 p.m. Back for its second year is the Block Party in the Red River District, highlighted by a FREE concert. The Block Party is presented by Delta Sunshine Brewing, Glazer Beer, Metro by T-Mobile and the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission & Tourist Bureau. 7 PUBLIC EVENTS 2018 FAN GUIDE >>> Thursday, December 27 Coca-Cola Fan Fest & Gumbo Cookoff with Chef John Folse Louisiana State Fair Grounds - 9 a.m p.m. Bring the family for this event at the Louisiana State Fair Grounds, featuring local cuisine, live music, inflatable games and more! The Coca-Cola Fan Fest for the 2018 Walk-On s Independence Bowl will feature Chef John Folse attempting to break the record for the world s largest pot of gumbo. Chef Folse will attempt to cook 6,500 pounds of gumbo to reclaim the record he once held. Bowls of gumbo will be sold for $5, with proceeds going toward the Fisher House Foundation to help military and veterans families. Walk-On s Independence Bowl Independence Stadium 12:30 p.m. Kickoff Tickets - $30, $45, $200 Post-Game Ice Skating Hirsch Coliseum - Following the Game Make the short walk to Hirsch Coliseum at the conclusion of the Walk-On s Independence Bowl for FREE ice skating (with your Independence Bowl ticket stub) at George s Pond! After Party Great Raft Brewing - Post-Game - 10 p.m. The party in town on December 27 is at Independence Stadium, and the After Party is at Great Raft Brewing! 10 2018 FAN GUIDE TICKET & GATE INFO >>> NCAA PLAYER GUEST TICKET GATE The NCAA Player Ticket Gate is located on the West side of Independence Stadium between gates #2 and #3, next to the elevator. These gates will open at 10:30 a.m. WILL CALL Will Call is located in the northeast ticket booth, near Gate 4. Picture ID is required. GATE INFORMATION For the most direct and efficient access to your seat, please enter the stadium through the gate indicated on your ticket. 12 2018 FAN GUIDE PARKING INFO >>> A limited number of reserved parking spaces adjacent to Independence Stadium are available for $25 each, or fans can pre-purchase Blue Lot parking passes for $10. Both can be purchased through the bowl office, by calling (888) 414-BOWL (2695), or through the bowl website at WalkOnsIndependenceBowl.com. Cash-only parking lots are available around the State Fair Grounds and will be open on game day. Parking in these lots is $15. There will be a limited number of available spaces. Charter bus and limousine passes are $50 each and can be purchased through the State Fair Office by calling (318) A parking layout is included in this brochure on Page 11 as a guide to reserved and open parking lots. HANDICAP PARKING Handicap parking costs $10 and is located adjacent to the north side of Independence Stadium in a designated lot, as well as on the north side of Hirsch Coliseum. RV PARKING RV spaces are available on the Louisiana State Fair Grounds. The price, including hook-up is $50 per day. To make reservations for RV space contact the State Fair Office at (318) TAILGATING The White Lot, conveniently located northeast of Independence Stadium, has been reserved for tailgate parties. The price is $25 per parking space. To make reservations for tailgating space, contact the State Fair Office at (318) Grass Tailgate Areas can be purchased through the State Fair Office and the price depends on the amount of space. Tailgating parties are not permitted in General Parking (Blue, Silver, Gold, Brown, Red, or Orange Lots). DIRECTIONS TO INDEPENDENCE STADIUM From the West on I-20: Take I-20 east to the Jewella Avenue or Hearne Avenue exits. Take either exit and turn left. Follow directions according to accompanying map for parking entrances. From the East on I-20: Take I-20 west to the Hearne Avenue or Jewella Avenue exits. Take either exit and turn right. A $5 round-trip charge will apply, but kids 12 and under ride for free. The shuttles will run from 9:30 a.m. until one hour after the conclusion of the game (Times subject to change; check WalkOnsIndependenceBowl.com for updates). ATM s will be located inside Independence Stadium as well. FIRST AID Independence Stadium will have Shreveport Fire/ EMS representatives present throughout the game. To request assistance, see the nearest gate agent or Shreveport Police officer. HANDICAP ASSISTANCE Ticket holders needing handicap assistance to their seats can use the elevators located on the south side of Independence Stadium, and golf carts will be available at the bottom of the ramps to assist east side ticket holders. LOST AND FOUND Lost and Found is located in the southwest corner of Independence Stadium at the Security Office. For further assistance, contact the nearest Shreveport Police Officer or usher. LOST PATRONS Lost patrons should contact the nearest police officer who will escort them to the Security Office, located in the southwest corner of the stadium. 26 2018 FAN GUIDE IN THE COMMUNITY >>> COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP For the 13th-straight year, Willis-Knighton Health System has partnered with the Independence Bowl Foundation to present a $2,500 scholarship to graduating seniors from each Caddo and Bossier Parishes. The scholarship is awarded based not only on academic success, but also on a commitment to improving their community through service. YOUTH FOOTBALL CLINIC Every summer, the Walk-On s Independence Bowl hosts a FREE Youth Football Clinic for area children at Independence Stadium. Participants receive the opportunity to learn from college football coaches from across the region, as well as current and former college players. In 2018, more than 300 kids participated in the Youth Football Clinic, and All-American LSU linebacker Devin White served as one of the clinic s coaches. SHOW YOUR INDEPENDENCE ART CONTEST Seven years ago, the Walk-On s Independence Bowl started the Show Your Independence Art Contest, which asks local elementary school kids to draw what the word Independence means to them. Winners are selected from each grade level at each school and given two tickets to the Walk-On s Independence Bowl, and their artwork is put on display at Independence Stadium during the game. KID COMBINE PRESENTED BY RAISING CANE S In it s second year, the Kid Combine takes aspects of the NFL Combine, and allows kids to participate. The kids compete in The 40, The Shuttle, The Throw and The Catch, along with two new events for 2018, The Ladder and The Tackling Bags. The top performers at the end of the year will have an opportunity to compete in drills on the Independence Stadium field during the 2018 Walk-On s Independence Bowl. February 23, Krewe of Centaur Parade Parade begins in downtown Shreveport and follows Clyde Fant Parkway south, turns right onto Shreveport-Barksdale Highway and ends in the Broadmoor neighborhood at East Kings Highway Park. One of the largest parades in Louisiana, the Krewe of Centaur rolls 10 days before Fat Tuesday and features marching bands, brightly colored floats, and more. Admission is free. Drawing more than 10,000 spectators a year, this huge parade of costumed pets is a chance for festive pet owners to celebrate Mardi Gras with their fur babies. Register your pet online.
