Collegiate Profile: Dr. Larry Squire See page 4 (online only) Dr. Jacob Liu Awarded Research Grant from the Academy of Prosthodontics Foundation Dr. Min-chieh Jacob Liu, a thirdyear resident in the Department of Prosthodontics, has been awarded a research grant from the Academy of Prosthodontics Foundation. The grant is awarded to graduate students in prosthodontics to support, in part or in total, graduate research projects. Dr. Liu s research will evaluate the capability of human subjects to examine the translucency of porcelain dental materials. The capability of dental students and dentists, and the effect of their dental training and experience on evaluating translucency, will also be studied. The correlation in distinguishing translucency between spectrophotometric measurement using contrast ratio values, and human perception, will also be compared. 3 American Board of Operative Dentistry, Inc. Certification Program: Part II-Clinical Examination The patient will be responsible for covering lab fees but all clinical procedures will be at no fee. The patient must be available on July 23-25, 2007 Procedures to be Performed We are looking for patients who need any of the following operative dentistry restorations: Amalgam or resin conservative restoration. Class II (two- or threesurface). At least one proximal surface must radiographically demonstrate a virgin carious lesion. The tooth to be treated must be in occlusion and have at least one proximal contact. Amalgam extensive restoration involving cusp replacement and utilizing auxiliary retention techniques. This procedure must be treated as the final restoration for this tooth even though the tooth may eventually receive a crown type restoration. The tooth to be treated must be in occlusion and have at least one proximal contact. Cast gold restoration involving occlusal coverage, restoring at least one cusp, but less than a full crown. The tooth to be treated must be in occlusion and have at least one proximal contact. Class IV resin restoration. The restoration must re-establish proximal contact and appropriate occlusal contact.
